Fm was cash poor until last night. 250-300 mil for 36 min maximum to me means he wouldn't even think twice if the option comes up for a rematch. He already has the best record ad obviously still has what it takes to get the job done. The UFC has already said they're willing to drastically increase conners next payday to get him back into the octagon so he'll be fine either way.
Best ever? You mean in his specific weight class, correct? If you mean amongst any boxer head to head...uh no.
So it took Mayweather 10 plus rounds to get rid of a civilian. What a great fighter/defensive fighter. The best ever. LOL what a crock!
Not to take away anything from Mcgregor, but a great entertainer he is, a great boxer he is not. GGG, Canelo, Thurman, Porter, Garcia or any top ranked fighter would clean his clock in the first 3 rounds. Mcgregor had the element of surprise as his main weapon. You couldn't study his style... because he didn't have one as it was his first pro boxing fight. What happened to that killer left hand that "breaks the guard"? I didn't see him land much of that save for an uppercut that didn't have much effect on Floyd. (https://gfycat.com/gifs/detail/sophisticatedfrenchgannet) Mayweather did what he does best. Let's his opponents dictate the first few rounds and then adjusts for the win. In the post-fight presser he explained that his FM Sr.'s and his plan was to weather the storm and then put on the pressure. That was a real KO. The man's brains were being scrambled and short of going down (which was going to happen pretty shortly after), Conor was done for. No respect. https://gfycat.com/ImpressiveVillainousAgama Judging that distance: https://gfycat.com/PleasingSereneGalapagosalbatross Boop: https://twitter.com/inomnomcom/status/901664107203612673 The final finish: https://streamable.com/prx2x Took Mcgregor a full second or two to realize the fight was even over.
Sugar Ray Leonard Emile Griffith Sugar Ray Robinson Manny Pacquiao Roberto Duran Thomas "The Hitman" Hearns All arguably as good or better boxers in the same weight class. D
I was on the strip Friday night with the wife, went down for dinner and some shopping and McGregor fans were definitely out in force. It was crazy on the strip but a lot of fun as well.
Nice. I think you should get together with Ferraripilot on the basis that Misery Loves Company Exactly. Dave, all of the gentlemen you have listed above will freely admit that FM is TBE in that weight class, in fact I have heard it said by two of them in my presence.
Misery? I didn't subject myself to paying money for that farce, all good over here. And A professional "undefeated best fighter ever/best fighter of his time" fights a civilian, a fighter who has never fought in the amateurs or professionally, can barely get rid of him and takes 10 rounds to do so. Results are results. There is no way to spin it otherwise. Mayweather is a joke. Sadly, I'm sure we haven't heard the last of him. He'll undoubtedly be back again in next year when the IRS comes calling again.
That civilian is an MMA champion in two weight classes who trains in boxing...that's not exactly fighting some guy off the streets. Mark
Sure, whatever makes you (un)happy. True, and this fight was always what it was, an MMA Champion versus a Boxing Champion, and the outcome speaks for itself.
MMA is a totally different animal. He is physically more gifted and honed than a typical civilian, still not a boxer. Zero experience. All told, A civilian more or less.
Boxers aren't judged how good they are by how many rounds it takes to KO/TKO someone. Everyone has their own pace and strategy and Mayweather's proven to be effective and bulletproof. 50-0
A boxer beating an MMA fighter in boxing is not a surprise. It also wouldn't be a suprise to see an MMA fighter beat a boxer in MMA, which is what would happen if the two were doing the match MMA-style.
It's not even my opinion it's the opinion of many many many of the greatest fighters out there as joe so kindly pointed out. His record speaks for its self. I'll wait for you to post up a boxer with a better one.
And, in their prime, I suspect most would have beat him up pretty good. And we can't ask all of them now can we? I'm not saying Mayweather isn't a great boxer, obviously his record indicates he is, but best ever, nope, not in my book. D
It's not just record. It's record and quality of opponent. Fight guys past their prime by delaying the fight for years, or simply don't fight them at all can make a record look better than it really is. Fight a guy who had no right to be in the ring with you, who ha never boxed professionally, for your 50th victory, and have to fight tooth and nail to get it done? Well, like you said, his record speaks for itself. D
The only two assets Floyd has ever carried are his record (running around the ring hardly ever scoring a KO) and his mouth. His mouth is a very entertaining asset. He is a great hypeman. Take away his record and he is just another fighter. He knows this, and plotted his course appropriately. More power to him. I just think it is insane that people worship his "greatness" When he rarely ever scores a KO, fights anybody in their prime, and uses a civilian in order to achieve a 50-0 record, and has been an utter bore to watch in the ring from pretty much day 1. He did it, good for him. But the public will always look at it with an asterisk. Even more so as time passes and somebody else emerges 20x better and more exciting than him.
Robert Horry has 7 NBA championships. Multiple rings with THREE different teams. Does that make him better than Jordan?
Hahahah Exactly. Although Big shot bob's veins are ice-cold. Him and Reggie Miller are the two of the best clutch shooters of the past 25 years. They were never afraid to execute the other team in the final seconds Great players, but NBA legends and "best ever' they are not
No and because he doesnt have any MVPs or finals MVPs to back up those championships. There's a difference between being on a championship team and being the best player on a championship team. Boxing is an individual sport.
