Did anyone hear Mark Weber asking Zak from McLaren about Illmore involvement with Honda? Zak side stepped the question (as he would), and I wondered if anyone knew more?

I don't know. Back to back WCC sounds pretty dominant.

As I said, I don't remember the results in the WCC points for those seasons, but we can look them up, I suppose.

It can be argued that "tire management" is a function of a whole bunch of things. Whether it was the chassis design, aero, driver or otherwise, the fact is that they were able to figure it out for two seasons better than anyone else.

It seems to me that there are eras of dominance. McLaren. Benetton. Ferrari. Renault. Red Bull. Mercedes. Fact is, no one had a better package on the grid than did ALO and Renault at the time. Everyone else was trying to figure it out. And, much of the conversation, IIRC, boiled down to how the car used tires better than other cars. That's a function of design, I think.

Which, at the time, were legal and a very innovative technical development, right? They were later banned, which tightened up the WCC race. Just confirming, because my memory is not what it was!

They def had the best package in 05/06. Not sure about dominant, but they were the all around best cars both those seasons

And what is the real problem with the Honda power unit? I mean how can they get it so wrong two years in row? And aren't they supposed to have experience with hybrid systems and turbos? Were they really out of the loop for that long? I suspect their may be a culture issue at Honda where so much emphasis was placed on efficiency since the peak oil days without racing that they lost the competitive, high power brain trust the other engine companies still have. Renault had issues but it looks like the TagHeuer money helped for Red Bull.

Looking at this thread, I recall the post-race 'bullpen' interview NBC Sports had with Alonso last week. Will Buxton asked after two years of frustration, how much longer will this go on? Alonso didn't miss a beat and replied "Seven or eight races."

Alonso went on to say, and I am probably mis quoting a bit, "But we can be proud of what we have achieved. We have won many races in our career and can be happy with what we have accomplished."

Apart from being mildly amused at The Royal We, I looked at Mrs. Rosso and said "So there it is. He's out after this year."

Personally, I'm thinking he's in Indy next year.

Honda attempted to re-invent the wheel with their PU, and failed miserably. After 2 years of developing the square wheel, Honda decided to mothball the original design and copy a Merc PU. Unfortunately, they screwed that up too. Now, here they are...
