Nothing to suggest that we are even close to such a day.
this should put things into perspective of just how fast the 720S is... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgGruUBPbes
So the 720S has better straight line acceleration with 110 hp more and less weight. Personnally I'd wait for other achievements before worshipping McLaren.
My favorite part of the 720 I drove was handling and brake feel. Ride comfort was second. Acceleration and gear changes third. So there's that...
Ha ha, seriously? How about these achievments: Faster around any track. Better ride. Better steering feel. Better braking. Better shifting. Fantastic visibility out with the slim A and B pillars (blows away the Lambo). There's more, but that's enough to make the point.
And still the only proven numbers that are advertised ad nauseam are straight line numbers... The rest is more words than numbers so far (faster than everything around any track? that's enough to make the point...)
True. And I would take the Lambo all day...listen to it! Absolutely wonderful. My concern with the 720 came to light at Goodwood this year...quick but not visceral enough for my tastes.
Why not just buy a 360 with exhaust out an lp640 or one of a many NA cars that sound way better than a Huracan or a 488 or whatever. Everyone gets a hard on over how important exhaust is, then they ignore that you can get a better sounding, more involving cars for a fraction of the price. Huracan sounds decent, but so does a manual V10 R8 from 2012.
I think I have a virus on my computer. I keep typing Ferrari Chat in the browser window but it keeps redirecting me to Mclaren Life.
Actually driving on public roads, the only thing you could enjoy is sound. 360 doesn't rev to 9k, and is not reliable. 458 and Beetle GT 3 PEDALS are the best money can get at the moment.
incorrect 1 sec faster than the P1, 2 sec faster than teh 488 Gtb Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's one nice result (though you round it up Still with more power it's not unexpected to be faster, but more tracks are needed to have a more complete picture. We already know it has to be faster in straight lines, so the question remains: - is it also faster in the corners? if it is, by how much? It could lose time in the corners (I do not say it does, just that so far we cannot tell) and make up for it in the straights, or just be as fast in the corners... Each corner is different, and on the same track conditions may differ, that's why many different tests are needed to get a better insight. The 675LT had already a straight line advantage (although obviously a smaller one) compared to the 488, and in spite of that it was not, or only very marginally, faster than the 488 on tracks - which means it was actually losing time in the corners (and as such, was proving an inferior engineering). I do not deny the fact the 720S has more power, I just think we cannot really tell now if it is better engineered or not (McLaren is learning, so it's probably better engineered than the 675LT, but to which extent remains to be seen).
There are a lot of things you can enjoy on a public road other than sound. Even a 360 is very quick for the majority of circumstances, but there are other instances one can take advantage of the properties of a modern supercar.
To sum it up, the 720S is very fast and involving to some to drive. Yet still the only car so far in my 18 or so years of sport cars ownership the only brand that gives me goose bumps and get the hair on my neck raised is the prancing horse, no other brand has even come close to the feeling that Ferrari gives you and that makes me so happy to own one of them and I honestly don't even care about Mclarens, no hate or jealousy, just no interested as Ferrari makes me so happy and sometimes gives me a hard-ons The 720S can be faster than a space rocket. I will never leave Ferrari anyway
Interesting statement. I am curious though. Have you test driven the 720S yet? I'm a Ferrari fan too. Owned 3 in my life. Have a 458 Spider now. However, after driving the 720S it's one of the few cars recently that has blown me away and brought excitement. I drove the 488GTB on track and that didn't give me the thrill of the 720S Anyway, as a Ferrari shareholder, I am delighted to see your blind loyalty to the brand! Hope many more share your loyalty.
Fun fact = on the tow Mc720S threads on this site there's 626+1020 = 1646 total postings between the two 720S here which FAR exceeds ALL the posting on Mclife 720S forum. I think Mc got the attention of their target market and competition.
the last huge disrupter like the 720s was....the 89 Lexus LS400. That car had the same effect on the German sedans like the 720 has on its segment. I can't think of any other car that truly shocked the market...
More proof Mac people love numbers over emotion. Sad really. But I guess someone has to do crappy dead head jobs in Silicon Valley.
More like a few Mac lovers would rather stir the pot here than kiss each others rumps on the McLaren rah rah site. Counterpoints are not allowed. We must follow the faith! I could care less if the 720s was a minute faster on whatever track. No emotion means no sale to me. And that includes Ferrari.
