I'd take anything with a stick over 20 year old F1 technology. I never knocked any manual - THREE PEDAL - (to make that clear) cars. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm guessing the majority on this thread are a rather "different" demographic. So I'll let it go. Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I see. So only certain technology ages poorly. Right? Egads man, you 12? Next I'll hear you say that only the stuff you don't own ages poorly. Right? haha. But you never answered the question. What parts bother you so? You don't know because, well, you have no idea. You picked a bad place to knock this system. Lots of smart people here (smarter than you) that understand this system front to back. When working correctly it is a magical system...your Ferrari F1 team used it for years. You think Ferrari's early 1990's F1 team was a mess? But I see in your post history you hate F1 in everything from 430's to 575's so you got that going for you. Couple of requests now that you invaded our little corner of the internet: 1. What model year 355 F1 have you owned to have such a strong and knowledgeable position on the system? That silly blue 348 doesn't count. 2. You even own a Ferrari? I wonder based on your posts. Lots of bravado...nothing tangible. All 58 (now) posts. Hummmmm Not my problem that you run around making loud and bogus statements about something you know nothing about. Your reputation...you can do with it what you like
I had my "nightmare" out tonight, or should I accuratly say, my Swiss watch. The only thing I did not have was my friend Jay's GoPro to document the fast, flawless shifts. Jay told me today that I may borrow the GoPro anytime so hopefully I can grab it for the upcoming weekend to document what a nightmare my F1 is Stay tuned
One of the best experiences of true car guys is a car that engages the driver. The pure mechanical participation of the early F1 system in the 355 is one of THEE great car experiences. I like 3 pedals. I also like the automatic in my denali. I like the immediate and precision shifts of the 458 too, but the rewards that are waiting for the pilot of a 355F1 who tactfully and perfectly time the shifts in the multiple combinations of windy road circumstances etc... are unique to that special and rare setup. I suggest that if you are ever lucky enough to experience it, you will immediately add one to your life.
Bought an e36 M3 with a bad slushbox cheap. Put in a 5 spd. Somewhat common in BMW circles. Had no issues selling with conversion. At least the buyer knew all transmission issues were addressed. Easier to convert an F1 to stick, than what had to be done removing the auto.
Regardless of Mcpuccs silly comments, it is often echoed here about the 355F1 being a less valued car. If the market says so in terms of price point than I would say that is not a long term senario. Some people unfortunately have had bad experiences in the reliability of their F1 system and I think that much of that (with exceptions) are driver induced. I don't drive mine in auto ever. I anticipate positioning the car when I park so that I do not have to use the reverse or I make sure that the parking spot i take is on a downward slope that is easier on the cars setup. I take care to shift the car properly. I do drive the car hard, but I am not rammy and it has provided over 20,000 miles of pure reliable joy for me. I addressed my earlier comment to Mcpucc but anyone that has something bad to say about the F1 should actually drive one. If you learn the car, it is really special. That being said, if anyone wants to do a conversion, I have an extra complete stick set up that I would be willing to trade for a complete F1 setup.
A friends son recently had this problem My friend was very happy he got divorced years ago, mom had to come up with $6 K to convert it to a stick.
To echo others here, the F1 is so much fun. The car upshifts plenty fast. The key to downshifts is to manually blip the throttle while simultaneously pulling the downshift lever and let the system fall into gear. If you don't do this yourself, the box will feel sluggish. That's the beauty of the whole thing ! You have to personally, manually do downshifts for them to be crisp. That's just as ENGAGING and takes just as much SKILL as the other manual cars I own. Just don't let any idiots work on the system and you'll be fine.
I would be interested in a stick set up. Please reply at your earliest convenience. Thank you. Chip Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Would by any chance you still have and want to trade the setup? DM me if so please. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
