so they start about thinking for the Aperta after the LaFerrari was finished? First picture La Ferrari, second and third picture Aperta Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Exactly. I believe that under Lucas's watch, the LaFerrari was supposed to be a coupe only, i.e. the ultimate expression of a non-compromised hypercar. Marchionne thought he could make a quick buck out of it by chopping the roof off and promoting it as a commemorative, 70 year birthday model...
Not sure whether "afterthought" does the Aperta justice. "Afterthought" suggests to me something like a 'stick-a-wing-on-it-and-be-done-with-it' approach but I think the Aperta has been optimized for the roofless design (also changes to the gearbox software that Chalstrad had commented on in this thread as "fantastic" suggests further optimization), re-angled radiators to direct air flow & longer front air dam etc. I would describe as optimization. That this is then sold for a profit, well I can live with that.
Simple: by afterthought I mean they engineered the LaFerrari as a single closed version, uncompromisingly, contrary to engineering for both versions at the same time. Nothing to do with the Aperta version being wrongly engineered, which surely isn't.
To be honest, I think that you would be underestimating Ferrari if they had not thought of doing the Aperta from the beginning. To be able to do what has been achieved also required a clear design of the carbon tub in advance. It is not just a question of cutting out the roof and adding steel brackets to counteract the flex created. So rest assured the car was engineered for both eventualities. I assure you.
Then again Ferrari themselves have said that they had to strengthen the rest of the chassis in the Aperta after removing the roof.
so the difference in side mirrors' angle is also a necessary change to keep the airflow working properly? my biggest complaint about the look of the aperta so far.
Here you are sir: "Because the car does not have a roof, Ferrari’s technicians had to focus all their ingenuity on the lower section which had to be reinforced because it is subject to different stresses caused by force lines which, in the coupé, converge in the upper part. Thanks to a series of targeted modifications designed to reinforce that area to cope with the new stresses..." LaFerrari Aperta: The joy of extreme open-top driving - Ferrari.com
The LaF Coupe was a project created under Montezemolo and it was only to be a Coupe, under the new management Marchionne decided to make the Aperta. This is clear since after all the adjustments the car at over 140kmh is extremely noisy and it's hard to talk to the passenger. Not even the Enzo derived MC12 is as noisy. Having said this the Aperta is an amazing machine like the Coupe and I love it!
Why would you: 1) drive under 140 km/h 2) its not noisy, it's a symphony - especially with the valves open permanently 3) why would you want to talk to your passenger? A smile says it all.... 4) I've never driven with the roof on....
To be auctioned in Maranello this saturday. Rosso Fuoco with Bianco Italia livery. Image Unavailable, Please Login
3-4 million Euros est., which is roughly, what? $3.5-4.6 million US? Is that low or just about right for what would be a brand new, 1-of-a-kind Aperta? 1 user said MSRP was around $1.7 million during the original reveal. Just curious because I have now seen 3 different sellers claiming to have different Apertas available & asking $6-7 million+ for the right. It would seem to me if someone is really ready to drop that kind of money, the car up for auction would be the ideal (& unique) car to go for instead.
Well, all that money infused from quantitative easing by the US, UK, and EU had to eventually go somewhere...more money around today than way back then so I'm not surprised.
