Picked up the car (for my mother) in Vegas as planned. Ran it for the first time in earnest today. After having one of these you would think I would know how to fix a few things, but I don't and I can't find my answers in the owners manual either.

    So here goes
    - radio will not go on. Cannot find where the fuse is to check it. My previous one had an after market unit so I am unfamiliar with oem. What am I missing?
    - the drivers seat stopped allowing me to move the bottom of the seat forward. There is no separate fuse for this one motor so am I to assume that forward motor is just shot? It moves back but not forward.
    - there is a wire and a socket up by the rear view mirror. I need to ask the previous owner what that is. Any ideas in the meantime?

This is my mothers car, she wanted an auto and this was the most modern one. So I picked it up and will be delivering it to her.

I don't love the car - frankly I think the auto tran kind of sucked the drama out of the car. It is perfectly competent but the absence of more precise control over acceleration etc is not for me.

But the issues I mentioned above would be the same for either car.

    1) Check the fuses in the passenger foot well and if no dice then it's likely the main radio unit in the trunk to which the face plate in the cabin is connected. Wait... at least that is true for 1995-97 models: in case of an M I believe the radio unit is all in one and slides as a single unit into the tunnel. On 1995-97 models (non-M) to access the main radio unit you need to remove the carpeted "shelf" on the left of the trunk space - held together with small screws. If that is defective (or the face plate) it can be repaired.

    2) If only one element of the seat can't be powered it's probably one of the potentiometers that controls the range of motion of its various parts. Do a search on this forum but the fix could be slightly complicated. Replacement seat pots are both expensive and hard to find.

    3) No idea: definitely an aftermarket add-on - I bet it's for a radar detector.

Yes, I love my 456 Auto. Love my 355 F1 but that's for another drive. The 456M GTA is really quite a car and a great buy these days. A bit of a pain when comes to electrics but great to cruise down the freeway or back roads at speed. A radar detector is a good idea you will find yourself cruising in triple digits.

The General Motors Designer Chuck Jordan really enjoyed his 456.
What color combination is the 456 A for your mother?

    Ross,
My seat did the same thing on delivery. Ended up being the connector to the seat switches. Just re-seating it did the trick.
If your car has an OEM Becker, the fuse is on the back of the head unit. Also try re-seating the faceplate and cleaning the contacts.
I second the radar detector guess.

Thank you for sharing those details.
That is rather ironic to have another 456 in the same color combination. Sort of like seeing a familiar face far from home!

it already has the 575 wheels on it like i had, so it is really a carbon(e) copy of mine - other than the gearbox.

the radio mystery was solved by the tech at boardwalk in dallas.
the seat potentiometer needs looking at - may get around to it today. where is this connector to the seat switches?

ok. next question....how do you get at that connector? can you remove the witch on the outside of the seat and pull the connector out and see if it is attached to anything? or do i need to get at it from underneath?
