Obviously we want to be alert on editing in an active thread, but five minutes seems a bit abbreviated --
-- especially without a "preview post" option.

We may not need the hour we had before, but some thoughts come to us a bit after hitting the submit button, and I don't like to clutter a thread with repeat posts.

Poll is closed, but I'm like the new forum code... even the default Red. ;)

Forum looks great on mobile... no more need for Tapatalk. Bugs notwithstanding, I think it's a seriously great upgrade. Kudos to everyone involved in coding this transition.

I found it, you need to hit the other options button, the quick reply function doesn't have it automatically.

Apparently it only appears with javascript enabled.

But then the basic editor doesn't work on older browsers. (E.g. firefox 2)
(Can't move the cursor into the editor space.)

It's java and javascript that keeps aging out browsers.
(E.g. many web sites have scripts that throw older java engines into infinite loops.)
(Along with the whole flash/html5 fiasco.)

"Backwards compatibility" has ceased to be a concept in slothware design. *sigh*

This is why I used to reboot my Linux servers less often than they *replaced* the windoze servers. ;)

Rather than playing "update of the week", I'd rather forgo the preview.

Now this one makes me mad, because I caught that bug before we went live and I was told it would be fixed... Just brought it to developers attention again

Don't like the new theme at all...
I'm not someone "important" or "influential", just an enthusiast, so take my opinion as you wish.
For me sites such as Fchat and their reason for existence is the collection and dissemination of specific information related to the topic. I don't see them as some hipster whizbang, net tech, bleeding edge of style, oh look how cool we are sites. So when these kind of updates are implemented it actually detracts from the usefulness of the whole thing; I know the info is still there somewhere, its just not what and how we are used to, and the "new style" just makes it jarring to the brain. By all means work on the backend, add functionality etc, but for the UI if it ain't broke, why break it?

As an example (and recommendation for change) for two days I've been thinking the messages in the threads are out of date order, until I realized the first date your eye sees as you are checking the messages is the member joining date instead of message posting date.... So bascialy I've seen and mentally registered everyone's joining date by default (not very relevant info), whereas its taken me conscious effort to see when the posts where made (very relevant, eg when reading the thread about the F40s in auction, to see whether the info was about the latest auction or a 2008 one!) :-(

so one of the top 5 reasons motivating us to upgrade the old search was terrible, current one is better, and we are doing an upgrade of that. the old one was stuck and couldn't be improved.

I have the same criticism of flipping the dates of the posts with the join dates. I suggest making the post dates in black and moving the poster join date elsewhere in the header...

I switched back to "FerrariChat - Old" style yesterday and found the dead space on the right is now gone. The "Old" style also seems softer on my eyes than the original FChat. And I really appreciate being able to read posts on my Android devices without having to scroll.

So net-net, I revert my initial distaste for the changes and find the new site rather nice. Don't change anything!

From the replies in the thread, I believe that about 90% plus of Ferrarichat members/users like the "Old Style". I know I do.

Looks like crap. NO contrasts. Gray on white is way too hard on eyes.

What happened to '>>' option to go to last message in topic? All I see is 'Next>'.

IF some way to changed settings to old format, pls met me know; otherwise, won't waste much of my time on a hard to read, hard to navigate forum.

Update: found old format. It's not really the old format, just less bad than the new & deimproved format.

This reminds me of various software packages I've dealt with over the years, where software development would just dump some garbage out on the users and watch it crap out.

Anyone bother to test this stuff? If so, they oughta be fired.

This really discourages one from wanting to visit this board...

Pretty hard to fire volunteers. :D

Oh, and Rob and Jack both reached out to the community for more site testers, but didn't get much of a response, so we tested the stuff as best we could, but given that (at least for me) the new format was something I was familiar with already, I didn't see all the issues that folks are yapping about now. I spent several months on the www.motorinteractive.com site, and none of the things that keep coming up here were mentioned by anyone over there, and most of the guys there were veteran f-chatters. I like the new format, and if you'd just toss the old one away emotionally, I think most folks here will like it too.

I have to say that the amount of vitriol being tossed at the humans who got this thing up and running, with considerable pressure from corporate to get it going sooner, rather than later, is misguided. Do any of you honestly think they just cobbled this together and tossed it out there?

We trouble shot hundreds of things before it ever got released.

give this a chance, try not to poison your experience here just because you were comfortable with the old software. There are a lot of enhancements here.

I've seen this brought up a number of times now. I think the vast majority on here have jobs, kids, and/or other busy lives. I (we?) certainly don't have time to do beta testing, especially not for free. Take this for what it's worth, and it's not directly solely at you, continuing to bring up that people who pay to be here did not volunteer to work for free is not likely to be taken too well.

I stood my ground and pushed testing out from 2 weeks to 6 weeks against what the development team and the majority owners wanted. You should have seen it before. :) We had no critical bugs after release that required any back out. We have fixed 26 non-critical bugs since going live 6 days ago and only have 13 bugs outstanding. Several other things are just design preferences and things user request from the old site that we hadn't planned on. Did we have a perfect bug free release, no, but I think we did ok for a 2 employee company converting 200 GB and 180,000 lines of unsupported 15 year old code to a different set of 180,000 supported code. If anyone has access to a Fortune 500 enterprise development and testing group, they should have let us know! ;)

I understand, but out of tens of thousands of active users no one could spend 15 minutes? heck, thousands like you have spent more than 15 minutes just complaining. :D
