This race may go down as the blight on the WDC contest in 2017, replacing Baku. Just an unbelievable turn of events for Vettel and Ferrari. Arrivabene must be crushed.

Still 6 races to go, but you have to believe Ferrari needed a win here

I don't want a penalty as that'll ruin what's left of the championship even more. Vettel was out, Verstappen out and Kimi out. That's a big punishment. I expect some penalty points but hope it stays at that.

Me and Phill more or less predicted this. I didn't realize Vettel could actually be this stupid.

Max had an ok start Vettel a poor one, Kimi had a rocket. Vettel squeezed Verstappen not realizing Kimi is there. If you can't see another driver there with a championship on the line, why take the huge unnecessary risk? At worst Vettel would've taken 15 points, more than Lewis in any case. Kimi had such a great start I think he might have taken the lead. Verstappen reacted by getting out of the throttle (or even braking I don't know) but not much he could've done. It's likely either Kimi or Verstappen would've taken the lead in the first corner.

This reminds me of 2010 Vettel, not thinking far ahead enough.

Yes agreed, I'd have thought the main priority of Vettel would have been to keep his nose clean, and not mixing it up with blocking moves, I am sure he will be beating himself up about it, still a Hamilton DNF can square it all back up again.

Watching from the beginning I Think it is Max steering slightly to the Left while Kimi is straight.

I was thinking with all the Hamilton hate posting, hoping and wishing he would get crashed out, well as it played out, it couldn't have gone any worse for them, even if you wrote the script...

Isnt it Kimi's fault? It seems like he hits Max which then moves towards a closing Vettel.

Nope absolutely not. He had a great start and kept going straight, Vettel is the one blocking and not thinking Kimi might be there.

    P. Singhof. The reason Ferrari just **cked their season is because Seb decided to throw the race away on the first corner. Look at the in-camera footage from Max's car. You can see Seb launching left towards the apex, leaving Max nowhere to go. The fact he was 'slightly' moving to the left himself is because he could see Seb's rapidly approaching car off to his right. Ferrari blew it, and probably the season. End of.

People are looking to blame someone for that incident. But i think all 3 drivers are not to be blamed here. Vettel did what anyone would have done, protect his lead in the first corner. Kimi meanwhile, was awake at the start, and rocketed past Max, who in the process was steering left to give Vettel space. In that process, he clipped Kimi.

I think it's just a complete racing incident. Assuming it was Lewis who suffered the same fate, i won't be happy, as it's just 100 metres race. Anyways, moving forward, this thing can happen to anyone, even to Lewis in Malaysia. The only thing came out positive in the weekend was that Ferrari are fast. I hope it lasts the next 6 races. I haven't felt this disappointed in a very long time, and taking into account how awesome Vettel's lap was last night,

If Seb hadn't moved so far across to his his left, there would have been room for all three cars to sort themselves out into turn one (Take a look at where Seb starts when the lights go out, and where he is when the incident begins - He's gone a long way across the track towards Max t close him out)

As it was, Seb moved across to his left to put Max off trying anything, Max moves slightly left to keep a space to Seb, and Kimi, bombing up the inside of Max after an incredible start, clips Max causing the three to collide.

Seb created the incident, but it is still a simple start line incident that is not worthy of punishing anyone.

Today was a Greek tragedy. Had the faster car, secured "podium" spots on the grid on a track where passing is next to impossible, and Ham in 5th. Managed to walk away empty handed and Mercedes almost certain to win championship.

But if we're going to whine about "gifting" things to Lewis and bemoan that misfortune never befalls him, I can't help but remember Baku, when the Mercedes pit crew failed to secure his yoke and he had to make an unscheduled pit, and Vettel lost his cool and engaged him on an sc lap, costing himself the win and 13 championship points. I remember several veterans here making the comment that those points could later have a meaningful impact on WDC.

    Orange tinted glasses.

It was Max fault. He reacted to Vettel by going left and hitting Kimi. It was probably unavoidable because Kimi was right next to him but Vettel has zero blame.

They are racers right? I don't see why everyone is upset because he wanted to keep his lead by blocking. That's what Schumie did every race and we loved it. You don't want SC starts in wet conditions but you also don't want them to race?

He is already "reacting" to Vettel by driving into Kimi at this moment.
Had Kimi not been next to Max the accident wouldn't of happened. As that Lewis fanboi said it's racing **** happens.

Must be Hamilton's fault... if he had got pole position this most likely wouldn't have happened:).

Good thing you're not a racing driver as you wouldn't understand many of the penalties you'd get.

And orange tinted glasses? Erm no. The only thing I have in common with the Dutch is to have born there I couldn't give a toss about that left wing nuthouse

One could see in the Picture that Max is already turning to the Left. If Seb is responsible for Cutting Max then Max is certainly as well for doing so at Kimi...
Difference is both Ferrari were in front of Max. He Simply lost the run for turn 1 but was not willing to give in. And here we are exactly what was discussed before: Max had nothing to Loose and so it did not bother him. Let's see what happens when he will be in Sebs Situation....
