Talked to dealer last week about ordering the GTO. He said he can't guarantee I'd get one but he would do his best to get me on the top list. He mentioned Ferrari SPA will be deciding on allocations for this car. Im a Ferrari owner over 10 years and have bought a new 458, 488 and 488 Spider from this dealer (other cars when I lived in another state) so I'm a legit customer but clearly the hype is real and independent of 488 ownership. As for deposits I guess all dealers are different but my dealer does not take deposits for any car until it's release. Same was true for my 488 and spider and I was one of the first 3 local owners of the 488.

There was no detail about the California replacement until the email suddenly appeared last week describing the Portofino

On that basis there will be no news til late February

I have heard that it will be unveiled at Geneva 2018. Deliveries later that year. Those who have owned a 488 will apparently get preference. Only time will tell

I think it's a bit sad that, while mecca vs Ferrari threads continue to grow, this is quite abandoned, whereas for the F12 TDF the hype started months before and the activity was very intense, the thread crowded with many info and posts. Personally, this is the car I'm waiting for since the 488 reveal in 2015. the best Ferrari is always the next one. I don't care about spyders or alternative versions, I want to discover new performance benchmarks and aerodynamics magics applied to a gorgeous car.

It's always the same ... after the "normal" versions, there is a "super" version to conclude that range.

    What's next then ?

Completely agree. The 720 v 488 thread has got very negative.

Can't wait for further news of the 488 "GTO". I have spoken to my dealer a few times but there is very little info coming through as yet.

Definitely Geneva, and I will say again, definitely with KERS although no doubt I will be shouted down. Again.

Well, I knew about electric assistance/electric turbo from Marcel, but to know that a real KERS system will be implemented in this fabolous sporty car is just a wonderful piece of news, thank you Tim!

I don't think there will be KERS in the 488GTO. Jus more power with a bigger turbo, lightweight, more radical aero and possibly rear wheel is steering are all we should expect to see. IMO, KERS is system will require complete chassis change to stick in all the batteries plus all the cables and other stuff that goes with it. Current 488 chassis is not made for it. I believe we will only see a hybrid V8 system on a new series which will be a completely new car, new design and new chassis.

What I'd like to have is more power, less weight and rear wheel steering.
KERS will add power but will make weight reduction more of a challenge; we'll see...

We can't edit posts after 30min? Whatever. Anyways, if ferrari plays their cards right, then battery weight should be no problem. This is for a 120kwh battery pack, imagine a 3kwh pack

Tim, I really think someone is feeding you bad info. "Definitely with KERS" is a brave statement, reasons as pointed out by others.

FWIW - was at the dealer yesterday debating if was going to get a 488 Spider - and had a discussion on the 488 GTO. Im trying to get on the list - who knows if it will happen.

Regardless- the manager told me that 100% that it will not be called the 488 GTO. GTO is a name that has stuck to the car and everyone is using it right now as the working name but he said there is 0 chance it will be called GTO.

Time will tell - but he had no other news he could share about the car.

As much as I love my 488 GTB, and I love it a lot, I would be shocked if they bestowed the coveted moniker "GTO" on the car. Again, I love my 488 (it's a remarkable car), but I'm not going to pretend that it falls inline with the likes of the 250 and the 288. I think the term lives within this thread title alone.

Just seems funny that a dealer can tell you "100% it won't be called the GTO" but he can't tell you anything else about it? Did Ferrari send all the dealers a memo telling them it won't be called the 488 GTO?.......seems funny.

    look at it like this.......

-F12 tdf didn't have to race in the Tour De France(which no longer exists with cars) to be able to be called the tdf

-599 GTO didn't even race in a series that would require it to be homologated.

So I think with Ferrari now, name plates are tributes. Just like the 812 Superfast name plate.

488 will be called GTO or Montecarlo or Challenge Stradale, Dealers know nothing about the name, as it is still matter of decision, I personally care a bit about the name and a lot about the specs and drivability, so, let's talk about performance numbers....how many kg of downforce @ 200 km/h?
