I think it would be awesome if the 488 GTO came on Pirelli P zero tires with the colour edition.

Can you imagine how cool a Rosso Corsa 488 GTO would be with Pirelli tires featuring red side walls lettering like the F1 Super Softs. Throw in the Brembo Extrema Carbon ceramic brakes and Formula 1 is really starting to rub off even more.

I don't think michelin makes different porsche mpsc tires. All porsche ones are specified N 0. How do you differentiate between gt2, gt3, 918 esp when same size N 0? For sure the ones on z06 and amg gtr are identical. I think the 918 and gt2rs are also same

Those tyres will never be used as original equipment, only after market, anyway, only really performance ùpirelli to get on par with LAF at fiorano are the Trofeo R, that Ferrari never uses as they are semislicks for trackday, not usable in rainy weather, so best choice would bemichelin Sport cup 2 or Sport Cup 4S. Pirelli need to come out with a new special road tyre developed specifically for Ferrari, otherwise it's a slower and worst choice than Michelin at present, they need a Trofeo R for road, not only for track.

Just curious to see if some GTE/Cahllenge aero tricks appear on the new model, would be awesome to have a really road racing car, even though style and homologation boundaries will affect it. After Lusso and Portofino GT daily driver capabilities, time for a new V8 beast has come. 488 VS and 812 VS are the most wanted models till 2020

have read the thread from #1 to #380. Now we get into the topic after all the name gossip...

i guess it will be called GTO based on the reasons written from others before (GTB,288, Marchionne wants to maximise sales, reputation even more, and the stock exchange value at the end - he is not the guy to take care to much about the heritage...)

Trofeo R or lets say a new TrofeoR would be the right tire.
For Michelin Cup2 / for Porsche does exist following compounds: N0, N1, N2.
Even a Cup2 "ZP" compound is existing, as used for the C7Z06 and future ZR1, as for the AMG GT-R with the somehow called race package for 30k (ZP tires have to be single-homologated in GER), also the record run of 6:47 by the GT2RS on the NOS i guess was done also on those Cup2 ZP tires.
So TrofeoR - which are around 5sec on the NOS or a good second on normal tracks faster than the regular Cup2 (N0-2) would be already fine. But Michelin stepped up in the record laps game with their ZP compound...
I personally don´t care if TrofeoR or Cup2. Both are really great - top of the line - track/fast-street tires.

    The thing with KERS:
If i look at the technical back structure of a 488 for example - i can´t easily imagine how the KERS (somehow within the Gearbox/Powertrain) would not effect the whole structure - maybe also engine position or wheelbase with a couple of cm; besides the engine itself if mounted in front of it as on F1 engines.

    https://www.eurospares.co.uk/parts/ferrari/488-gtb/all
(a pity i do not find any useable transparent blue prints / technical drawings from the whole car)

All this would go to far i guess for the "just" special/track edition.
Personally i would appreciate it. If it is turbo anyway... i would go rad with such a KERS button on the steeringwheel!

An high performance electric turbo i can imagine myself easier. 90kW AMG is using in their Project One - only as E-Turbo

    Regarding presentation:
    I guess Geneva 03/2018
or if F have issues with the car as guessed a few posts earlier (delayed dealer infos) it could be also Paris in 10/2018
    all fair shedules (German content):
    http://www.autokiste.de/service/messekalender.htm?year=2018

    F430: Paris 09/2004
    F430 Spider: Geneva 03/2005
    430 Scuderia: Frankfurt 08/2007

    458: Frankfurt 09/2009
    458 Spider: Frankfurt 08/2011
    458 Speciale: Frankfurt 09/2013

    488: Geneva 03/2015
    488 Spider: Frankfurt 03/2015
488 "GTO": Geneva 03/2018 ??? (would fit somehow :D ) PlanB as written could be Paris 10/2018

All what is missing at the end is to get one as soon presented. And the want - will hopefully be strong.
Don´t know if my age (low 30s), my previous 2x F430; current: Viper ACR, 997 3.8GT3RS, 991 GT3RS, bunch of Caterhams and ///M´s will get me there.
i keep my fingers crossed for all of you and also for me a bit. :)

Anyone heard that here in the United States that there will be preference given to 488 GTB owners?

And fwiw I too doubt hybrid or the GTO name. We will know next year it seems.

hybrid is so much new tech and cost to add to this model. i imagine they will try it on lux model before sporting one. like what porsche has done. and not on an old gen chassis thats not set up for it either

Here if you don't own a 488 you for sure wont get one. So assume Ferrari will be consistent globally

Q: was there ever an 8-cilinder GTO or was the name GTO only combined with 12-cils ?

I agree - the 488 replacement will be hybrid, but the "GTO/Speciale" will be a faster lighter version of the existing 488.

IMO Geneva in March 2018 is too soon - more likely late 2018.

Ferrari don't need to call the 488 VS a GTO. So long as it looks the part and clips the wings of the excellent 720 (Macca is seriously raising its game) Ferrari will sell as many 488 VS as they want to make.

It would have been 2008/9 when Ferrari was finalised the 599 VS for launch in April 2010. In 2008 the world fell apart (in Q4 2008 car makers weren't selling any cars). Ferrari took the iconic GTO name out of the vault for good reason IMO. As it happens even with my tdf I can't part with my GTO, it's the nuts.

The world is still reeling from the after-shocks of 2008, but for now if I was Ferrari, the GTO name can remain comfortably in the vault. Assuming they nail the 488 VS, they can call it anything they like and it will sell like hot cakes. It's not going to be a LE anyway.

If we consider Ferrari needs to present a new car at Geneva, after the Portofino a 488 VS would make sense - otherwise it would mean leaving the whole stage to competitors.

From what I've heard is gonna be presented in Gineva 2018, that's why I gave up my allocation for march 2018 of the 812 to order the 488, because most probably they will give me the allocation for the beginning of 2019 for the 488 "GTO"....those are not rumors from my dealer but from people high level into Ferrari headquarters.

Cheers!! I hope to give all some more hype for it like I have!!!

Got it. Funny how many monikers there are for this soon to be named car. VS, LE, SE, GTO. Who the hell knows.

All special editions of regular production cars are tagged as VS in the Ferrari system before they are officially named. The 458 Speciale was 458 VS before its official presentation. Doesn’t indicate what the name will be, however in my opinion -and I have absolutely no information from the factory- the probability of naming a car that is not a limited edition “GTO” is zero. Doing so would devalue the 3 greatest letters in the Ferrari alphabet. Evolving from the 39 original “250” cars (although 3 were really 330s) to 272 “288 GTO” and 599 “599 GTO” already challenged the name and those of us who followed the previous 2 launches remember how the 288 and 599 were both initially marked as “fake GTOs” (both great cars that I had the good fortune to own). It took years for the noise to die down, so I struggle to see how Ferrari will now produce 2500 examples of its new “GTO”. My guess is Ferrari will make a new Speciale (whatever the name will be) and then use GTO in a limited edition. Could be a new model to sit alongside its -now traditional- VS Aperta or -less likely- be produced instead of the VS Aperta. I were Ferrari I would call the 812VS the GTO, although I do recognise that “488GTO” has a certain nostalgic sound to it!

I like them both....aslo without stripe I think is awesome! I really have no idea what I will do in my spec (if I will have the chance).
I want to see what king of options they will give us but I really hope the 488 "VS" will have the 2 sidefins on the skirts like the Speciale....those things drive me crazy!!! and you know, now that I really think about probably I've never seen a Speciale in the flesh!
