Bro, I was only trying to make a comparison between the two cars. Trying to be helpful. Trying to contribute. Now you're calling me a liar? What's the point of that?

BTW, the "ladder" doesn't end at the 488. I was speaking of limited production vehicles, such as the Aperta, the TDF, etc. But, I'm sure you knew that with all those F cars you own.

Thank you. I really appreciate that. Sucks when you take the time to write what you think will be a helpful and informative post and get called out as being a liar. But I guess that's life on FC! :)

Yup. God forbid you say anything negative about Mclaren or even mention the word depreciation - the 720 police will come for you.

It’s a shame as I happen to like the brand a lot. But it’s imposisble to have a logical conversation around here.

Your post was one of the best and balanced on this thread.

Thank you my friend. Nice to get a little support for the effort. It's so odd to me that a bunch of guys who drive Ferraris and McLarens can be so miserable towards other guys who drive Ferraris and McLarens. I don't get it. It seems to me it should be more of a brotherhood around here than a bash fest.

BTW - I freaking LOVE my 650. It really is a true supercar. And for 190K, which is what they are now going for, that's a steal.

BTW BTW - Why are Ferrari Chat guys so defensive about McLarens? That also seems odd.

It’s very odd but there is definitely a “Mclaren gang” and a “Ferrari gang” here. Very few have balanced viewpoints of each brand.

When I bought my 488- it was between a 650 and a 488. Loved them both but I liked 488 better. But I always said I’ll get a Mclaren in the garage which I will. At some point I’ll pick up a 720 but not now. Let things settle. I don’t need to be first on the block with it.

I’m just glad to see so many great cars out there. Lots of choices.

The only posts that should be ignored or dismissed are by those who believe all cars drive the same or do even not have a car and do not have personal experience with driving the cars under discussion ( The Mayor, noone1). Any sincere opinion based upon actual experience behind the wheel should not be subject to insult or derision.

Let's be honest, McLearan makes beautiful and great cars. I have never owned one, but the look great and have fantastic performance. Frankly, I have owned F430, 458 and now 488, but why do I have to pretend to make false choices? Most Ferrari owners I know have a bunch of cars, so do I, so just because I love Ferraris, does not mean that other cars sucks.

McLaren makes awsome cars, so does Porsche, Austin Martin, Lamborghini, Bugatti and my favorite Ferrari also.. I love my wife (Ferrari), but my kids also (but in a different way).....

You gotta say though, if you read this stupidly long thread, I have heard “720 is from another planet to the lame-effort 488” and other such nonsense repeatedly, whereas I have only really heard “I respect 720, just don’t like it and prefer 488” at the other extreme, going the other way. Perhaps there are exceptions but this thread has often taken the tone I have stated. No doubt Socal’s ‘720 Police’ will spend their Sunday trawling through this 60 pages of nonsense trying to prove me wrong, because we Ferrari-preferers do have to be wrong after all.

Image Unavailable, Please Login Unlike what I would imagine many on here with the ability to purchase many cars , its only one for me. Is the 488 slower than the 720 , maybe but I don't care. Ferrari is a dream and now i have the opportunity for it to become reality. 70 years history guys. Can McLaren close a street in your city with celebrations. I don't think so. Ferrari is a passion, a love. No matter what age , what nationality people go wow a Ferrari, if I won Tattsloto.

From what I can make of it, and I'm a newbie to the Ferrari brand, it looks to be a case where certain Mac owners (mostly who rarely drive their car other than to and fro the service dept or the odd foot down up a backstreet or boulevard cruise) seem hell bent on sticking it to the Ferrari guys with some crazy notion that Mac has evolved above and beyond anything else out there based purely upon the acceleration numbers and the attention the car gets. I do like the Mac, it has a lot going for it, but from what I can make of it, it has some way to go before I'll part with my hard earned. Used it's a steal no question, although even then it has its issues. New forget it - one easy way to lose a ton of money within a very short space of time! Can't see that changing with 720 either but happy to be stood corrected. The performance numbers do look good on the surface but it seems dig a bit deeper, push it hard for extended periods, and the opinions start to vary. Maybe in another 40/50 years....

My experience with Mac owners is that they favor their cars due to their excitement derived from driving them. Owners do not resemble a cult, which is often the case when it comes to Ferrari ownership. Ferrari owners are undoubtedly the most fiercely loyal to their brand, with many being closed minded to any competitors. The fact that Mclaren being such a young company, has not created the halo branding of Ferrari clearly is a factor contributing to this phenomenon. Lovers of high performance cars are doing themselves a disservice by shutting out the emergence of any new vehicle which can advance the art. Personally, I find all the advancements of exotics to be thrilling and will only push the boundaries to all our benefit.

From having experience being in both car brands, if you want to track occasionally the mclarens are a great choice. It's tough to argue against the performance of a 675lt which can now be had for as low as $315,000-320,000.

I agree with @Coincid. If Mclaren didn't exist what would keep all the other manufacturers on their toes? When they Ferrari builds a car design it has to last the model cycle lest it fall behind too much. Mclaren is cycling through cars and models much quicker than the rest trying to get a footing ahead.

Good on them for spending the money and the time to build something potentially better than the last and learning from previous mistakes.
