Thanks for the correction. I had not seen that version of the shield before, most seem to have the S F initials. :p

The fake Ferrari watches have Fiero inner mechanisms and a generally sized incorrectly.

I have a Ferrari GP 8020 in titanium with CF face, made exclusively for Asprey. # 166 of 250

It hasn't worked for years, any idea of a good repair shop or value if I get it repaired. Its in decent shape and I have the box and papers.

I replaced the kevlar band with an alligator deployant strap

    Thanks

Not familiar with that particular piece, but I would guess repair is around $800 from a GP dealer. Worth repairing. I'd insure value at $4k but market is probably vastly different.

It looks like this one without the Kevlar strap, I replaced that because it looked worn.

Some of these fake watches are done so well that it is hard to distinguish between the real McCoy.

Looks real. I have the same watch but red. I have several 'cheaper' Ferrari watches. I say cheap because they are genuine watches but aimed at the F1 fan market that perhaps don't have the money an owner might.
Mostly Japanese movement I think. I would love a GP watch (did they and Ferrari not fall out?) some time but even this owner can't justify the price of one just yet :D

My most expensive watch being a Tag Heuer F1 watch which retailed for less than £1000.

”Real-ness” is only an issue if you are looking for a collector watch of some sort; a watch which might retain or increase in value. Otherwise, the only things to question are, 1. does it look nice, and 2. does it seem to be reasonable quality. The former informs the latter as all modern quartz watches run extremely well.

As MalcQV alludes to, the Ferrari merchandise world has changed substantially over the last 20 years with the mass production of “Ferrari Lifestyle” merchandise. There is now lots of cool stuff on the market which is also inexpensive.

As I understand it, Ferrari and GP didn’t “fall out” but rather Ferrari just changed to Panerai when Panerai exploded onto the watch scene in the early 2000s. It is often said that THAT partnership didn’t go well, but I have never read the reason.

"Modena1967” keeps an amazing thread on the history of Ferrari watches. Well worth reading. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ferrari-watches-thread-from-vintage-chronographs-to-partnership-with-manufacturers.412638/

I recently (Jan 2017) researched, shopped and bought a vintage (1997) Girard Perregaux Ferrari watch. Here is my story: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/my-1997-girard-perregaux-ferrari-model-8020-chronograph-wristwatch.559661/

One comment in this thread that surprised me was the comment (in 2012) that said that the 38mm GP 8020 watches “wore small”. My sense is the opposite. Here is a video review of a watch similar to the one I bought (my is black face). This review gives a sense of the size. https://youtu.be/HakI_A4foE8

I will read those (and watch later). For some reason the two Fchat links did not work for me but that may be an issue here. Thanks

I hope I'm not necroing this thread, if I am, I apologize. I'm not sure where I should ask about my watch. I traded a friend for a Ferrari watch and I've searched Google till I was blue in the face and had no luck. I'm hoping someone on here would be able to help me please. I know nothing about watches and I would like to know if this watch is real or fake. Thank you to everyone for your time.

I wouldn't count on that watch being real. How is the quality of the fit and finish? Are the pushers functional? The exposed movement does not look very well made, and more like something out of China.

Band, pushers, fit, finish, overall quality, etc are very suspect. Also no country of origin. The chronograph registers don't make sense. The right sub-dial goes to 31, the lower-mid sub-dial goes to 24 and the left sub-dial goes to 7. Those dials are reading out like a calendar watch (date, 24 hour clock, day of week), not a chronograph. The hands on the sub-dials aren't indexed to the marks accurately, so again questionable quality. Finally the outer scale on a chronograph is usually a tachymeter (converts time to speed) and the one on this watch isn't that. It just goes linearly to 300, which I'm not even sure what it's good for (outer scales are most often one of count-up, count-down, tachymeter, compass, pulsometer, telemeter, or slide rule, none of which go linearly to 300).

pressing the top button in moves the far left dial by one full number (ie..1 to 2). Pressing the bottom button moves the hand on the far right dial by one mark. Haven't found any button or dial that controls the center dial. The band seems to be made of some soft rubber like material, maybe even silicone. The colors on the top of the Ferrari shield blue and red. Yea I was kind of expecting this to be a fake.

The maker took a day/date/24 hour movement and tried to make it look like a chronograph (stop watch).

This is more typical of what the dial face should be for the type of movement in your watch.

P.S. the watch in the pic is about a $50 watch new.

I want to say thank you again to everyone for your help so far regarding this watch. So this is more or less a cheap Chinese knockoff of a expensive watch then?

It's not even really a replica/knockoff, it's just a cheap watch using a ripped off Ferrari logo.

Here's a yellow "Panerai Ferrari" chronograph, that kind of looks like yours. Notice anything about it? It's a fake too, the right subdial has the same "31" and the left subdial has the 7 index mark weirdness that yours has!

But this one is actually trying to be a replica/knockoff of the real one. They've spent some time and $ on the case, pushers, dial elements and so on, more than just the Ferrari logo. Here's the real Panerai Ferrari that it's trying to look like. MSRP was $14,600 when new.

That watch on the bottom is a really sharp looking watch. So you think the one I have is trying to imitate the Panerai? Just by looking at the watch on the bottom, I can easily see where the company that made my watch really should have tried harder, lol.
