    Hello all,

First post here, as a 612 shopper. I was briefly torn between a manual 360 and a 612 but i pictured myself driving a 360 then losing my mind if i ever saw a 612 on the highway, so the choice was clear. A manual 612 would be ideal in a perfect world but the only manual 612 available in the country has an asking price that's higher than retail.

I've been looking through the usual spots (cargurus, ebay, these classifieds, cars.com and autotrader), but I was wondering if there are any other places where I should be looking.

Thank you very much for your help and I look forward to joining the ranks!

If you hurry there is one on Bringatrailer right now. Otherwise its just the usual places.

I've found the iSeeCars app to be pretty good at finding cars in lots of places and tracking their prices.

Bringatrailer car sold for $77k, if you want some price data. Plus Bringatrailer's cut, so around $80k.

I think it was an okay deal, not awesome but quite fair.

FML has 11 612s listed in the current issue, two of which are OTOs. The low price car there (similar miles to the BAT car) is asking $99k, from an authorized Ferrari dealer. FML's prices tend to be on the high side, so $80k in a private sale or BAT type of sale seems fair to me.

And to the OP-- you should definitely subscribe to Ferrari Market Letter if you are looking for any sort of Ferrari!

Funny, I went the other way. I passed on a black/shields/red calipers/black Daytona seats/red contrast stitching/monolithic wheels 612 for a yellow 360 stick/sunroof. My reasoning is that the 612's will depreciate further, especially the late OTO's, but I don't think 360 manuals are going to get any lower. Plus, there are only 22 sunroof 360's, and about half have manuals, so a near unicorn (Two of them are yellow, which is my color for the mid V8's).

A doctor in Atlanta got that stick 612, I heard, and paid dearly for the privilege. I don't even know how many are in the US, but they must be super rare.

About 300 manual gearbox 612 manufactured globally (so ~10%). Paying over 2x the price of an F1 isn't worth it if you're buying one to enjoy driving (rather than purely for collection)

Right now i have 2 "toy" cars in opposite ends. I have a BMW M5 that I've set up over the years to be a GT, and then a Lotus Exige, which is a very raw experience. If I were to get a 360 I would keep the M5, but I don't see the need to keep it if I were to go for a 612. I've always liked the 2+2 Ferraris. I tried a 456 and, well, I don't fit in it all that well. I'm 6'1" and it just wasn't working out.

Interesting, I just sold my '01 456M after five very enjoyable years with it, and I'm 6'2". It fit me perfectly. I do have a 35" inseam, so very long legs and a short torso. I'll get a 612 at some point, but not until the 308 market shows some life. Right now I'm the mid-engine V8 guy, with two cars - 1980 and 2000 - twenty years apart.

Plenty to be found on eBay if "Risky" is your middle name....

Jokes apart, if you do your homework you might actually find a decent specimen on eBay: it takes a lot of time, work, resources etc. to find what you are looking for but I wouldn't write eBay Motors off altogether.

Oh- it's just a case that I wasn't following the 612 market and if I think of the typical drastic depreciation on a 2+2 Ferrari...it makes sense (unfortunate for the original buyers who likely moved on to the next car already).

If I were a decently well-off older man and wanted a fancy car in the $80-100K range to drive every day for a work commute for example I guess I'd consider an s class or 7 series. If I were the same man who just retired or didn't have to commute a ton of miles I'd buy a used 612 for $80K- SO much car for the money. As much as I like the 456, the 612 is so much more car. The design is quite striking with the side coves and headlights...a rare car to see on the road, and a real Ferrari V12!

For me in that price range I'm still interested in the mid-engine flat-crank screamer v8 go karts though ;)

    George,

You and I have the same build and I find that my '99 456M kills my back after a couple hours of driving, not to mention the dead pedal location bothers my knee whereas my former 308s never bothered me nor does the 355. I'd been thinking of selling the 456 to get a 612 (which is how I stumbled over here from the 456 forum) and actually that one that just sold on BaT was my perfect color combo---exactly matches my Quattroporte. Although I reckon those will still dip a bit lower and in a couple years, I bet $50K will buy one at the wholesale level so I'll wait and take my chances and hope that perhaps the 456 will go up in that time!

I used to have lower back problems, but then I got a Bowflex and started working out. Squats are fantastic for strengthening the lower back, and combined with crunches they have completely eliminated my lower back problems. I did a few 700 mile days in the 456 with no problems. I mean, I was worn out, but not in any pain. The whole reason I started working out was so I could continue to do long distance riding and driving. Then I got addicted to it, and now I'm huge and physically the strongest I've ever been, and I turn 60 in December!

Yes, the dead pedal in the 456 is useless for guys our size.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for 456's to go up, especially the automatics. The three pedal cars are very solid right now, though.

It's sad, but I'm probably now in the "decently well-off older man" category-- and I bought my first Ferrari V-12 2+2 when I was 27!

Not meaning any offense- I was just using that situation as an example as someone who could have a 612 instead of a "run of the mill" s class or 7 series :)

There's a manual 612 for sale in Dubai now, listed on Pistonheads.

No offense taken! Time marches on for all of us-- you'll be an "older guy" before you know it, and wondering where all the time went!

I sold my 328 and purchased a 612 a few weeks ago. Still have my 355. Im 6'1' and the 612 is very comfortable. My wife loves riding in it. Went on a 120 mile drive to an FCA event and it was a great drive. Keeping the 355 for when I want the go kart experience or for the canyon drives or the shorter trips. For the weekend trips or the 100 mile + drives the 612 is great.

Over the years I have found 4 cars on e-bay. 3 Ferraris and a Mercedes. E-bay is the exposure marketing tool but most of the high end cars get purchased after the fact rather that directly through e-bay. See them on e-bay, wait until they don't sell, contact the seller and do your inspections and due diligence then before you purchase.

The Dubai car has been for sale for a *very* long time. I remember seeing it on Autoscout24 almost a year ago at a significantly higher price point from the same dealer. It might be interesting for anyone in the US looking for a manual 612 as it's a US spec car (with likely a first registration there) making the import significantly easier and less expensive. There are 3 other manuals currently listed on autoscout around the same price point.

I wish I could use Autoscout, but I can't even figure out what the search terms mean.

There are multiple domains for each country/language. The .com is in English. But since you're in the US be careful in terms of import... There are many threads about this. Seems the safety regulation in the US makes it quite difficult. I have no experience with this just going off other posts on fchat. The Dubai car is US spec so it might be an option for you

Thanks, but I still can't figure it out. It only lists cars up to 100K, which excludes all the manuals. Plus, it gives no options for ME countries, only Europe. But I'm old and have trouble with sites that are not user friendly. That one seems user hostile to me. :)

Since it's a Euro focused site there is no geography other than Europe. Sometimes ME dealers will use it as a platform and provide shipping. Leave the max price blank for cars above 100k. If you want to narrow it down, filter for manual gearboxes which will still give you a few F1 cars but it will be obvious which are the proper manuals.

The Dubai 612 is currently on pistonheads. I was merely saying I had seen it a while back on autoscout.

The ME car market is quite fragmented in terms of listings so generally you would have to search each country individually through their respective main listing sites. And believe it or not, a lot of listings go over Instagram with no other formal listing.

Ah! Leave the from-to alone and it lists all the 612's. Thanks! There are two manuals, one blue, the other read, but not US spec cars. I've known about the nightmares of importing non-US cars since the 80's.

I have decided to look for a manual 612 and I'm prepared for a long search and to spend a big premium, but it's a car I'd never sell. With both a 360 stick and a 612 stick, I'd be living the dream.
