I have had the GTC4Lusso for close to a year now, it's an amazing car that has become my favorite daily driver. My dealer has been kind enough to lend me the 812 demo for a couple of days and I drove both cars back to back in an attempt to understand how similar or different they can be. The 812 is brutal and a super car in every respect, while the Lusso offers more comfort , elegance and practicality.

My problem now comes from the fact that I'm offered an 812 production slot for Feb 2018 , which is amazing in comparison to other markets where waiting lists can stretch for years.

I can't find a justification to keep both cars as they are very similar and the combination is not ideal, so I have to choose one.

I love the Lusso but the 812 is very special.

I'm I mad for even considering not to choose the 812?

I don't need a 4 seater as I have several practical cars to cover that slot.

But I have become comfortable and attached to the Lusso, an amazing GT.

    Please advise

The 812 is undoubtly more special - and with a delivery in February / March , on most markets you'll be able to change for a profit if you elect to revert to a Lusso.

I have a Lusso and have now ordered an 812. The Lusso would continue as my DD, as it's practicality is far superior to an 812. The 812 will be used on sunny days, weekends, car rally's, and perhaps the occasional track day (I have other cars for that, however).

If you don't need the extra space/electronics/convenience of the Lusso, you can't go wrong with the 812.

Its really got to be what your heart desires. Perhaps this method can help?

Take a coin. Heads is GTC4, Tails is 812. Flip the coin. Don't look at the result just yet. What result are you hoping for? That's your answer.

Are you saying the 812 will not function well as a DD?

(When I flip the coin I wish for both...)

Depends on how you use it, for my wife it was a simple decision, as only car and planned about 12 k miles/year in Chicago weather, the Lusso is the only alternative.

Lusso is a great car no doubt but if you have the option of getting the 812 go for it - I have mine ordered and can't wait. If you have to choose one and you have other cars for more than 2 people then go for the 812!

So you have a new Ferrari for less than 12 months and you love it but the dealer wants to sell you a new more expensive one. And now you think you might be crazy if you don't do it. Should be interesting what you decide. Only you can make the call but I'm betting you go for it. My pick would be the 812.

You ask the right question , the Lusso is obviously more comfortable, the seats are better, the car is less nervous, which is felt in throttle and brakes response. The central screen is more functional . Lusso is more discreet, which has its benefits as we all know.

I wouldn't want to drive 812 as a daily car. You've just helped me realize this now.

812 to me is pure Ferrari DNA, a car with no compromise, I recall 250 GTO , Dytona , 550 Maranello when I look at it. Dream cars, legends..

812 demands full attention when drivin and you can't help it but feel very respectful towards the car and its capabilities.

During a mountain driving event, prior to spending enough time getting to know the car, I almost got into a serious accident as I was over taking a truck on a narrow pass, the setting was on race and I pressed hard, lost traction and started to slide sideways. I corrected but realized that this is not F12 or Lusso, you need to be more careful with applying the power in this car.

As you don't need a 4 seater, my vote would be the 812.

    Hi Robert
    Why do you vote 812?
    Please share your rationale..

I have used a similar system. Similar in that I tell myself I will absolutely follow through the coin toss result as it is binding and then after the toss, the instant you see whether you 'chose' the 812 or Lusso, what was your instantaneous reaction, in that split second? Disappointment or excitement.

Reading between the lines, I think you appreciate the Lusso's less hyper intense qualities and that may be where you end up, but what is to be lost in taking an 812, trying it, and if disappointed I am sure your dealer will welcome you trading in the 812 for a profit and giving you a brand new and much less sought after Lusso. Chances are you could end up with a new Lusso for no extra cost over the car you drive now..

    You cannot lose.

Just on the numbers the 812 is a relatively smaller vehicle. Some 350 pounds lighter and 10 inches shorter and slightly narrower. While you have found the Lusso a wonderful companion that makes few demands, I think it blunts the Ferrari experience. The 812 is the more emotional experience where everything is turned up to eleven...

I think the 812 is the more exciting option - and will be a more thrilling drive. If you have a need for a more practical Ferrari then I am sure the Lusso will be great, but it wouldn't be my choice out of the two.

As for a daily drive, I use my 488 as a dd, and it's fantastic, and so I wouldn't have any problem using the 812 as a dd either. Of course these cars require full attention, but they are not difficult to drive in traffic.

Ironically, today we put a deposit down on an 812. I keep loving the Lusso, but my wife can’t get there. I told her we have to get a v12 to compliment our Cali-T... We drove the Lusso which was nice, but when she saw the 812...

So there you are! Now the real waiting begins.

I’ve had my Lusso about 6 months and drive it on a typical business day just like I used to drive my previous Quattroportes. In the Lusso I’m usually on the phone between appointments and either dictating or listening to email at traffic lights as is legal in Florida. I am truly a Ferrari fanatic, have several sport Ferrari’s and even race a 458 GT3. When I walk out to the garage on a work day, and can pick any Ferrari, I always pick the Lusso. I have an 812 on order and learned this week it was status 30. I see the Superfast as a weekend car or an evening outing drive and will take it to the office when first delivered because I will be so anxious to drive it, but the Lusso will be my daily driver and I love driving it. It’s fast, luxurious, classy and doesn’t feel out of place for business outings. Tough decision, I feel very fortunate I will not be making the choice.

Interesting, my wife and I love our FF, hopefully the Lusso once it arrives. What I loved about our FF was the flexibility of the car. We could take the kids to school, out for the weekend, and then pickup a client or go on couple dates etc. Add that to the trunk space that comfortably held so much stuff, even my clubs went in without issue. Then the best part is the (bi-polar) driving dynamics, the V12, the absolute monster it could be become in an instant!

Best of luck on the wait, maybe they bump everyone up a bit!

Perhaps if I sold some other toys... :)
