Max during the press conference today. Still holding his ground but " I could have used different words." from 2:45 thru 6:25 [Max on the penalty, "everyone ran wide, steward (which we all know is Garry C)., and choice of words] then at 8:30 thru 9:00 Max was "avoiding Kimi" which is why he cut the corner. 10:15 Max on the "illegal pass" and deterents and solutions.....gravel, grass F1 2017 Mexican GP - Drivers Press Conference 1 - Verstappen - Perez - Wehrlein
Whiting describes the Stewarding issue Max fails to understand here - https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/whiting-inconsistency-claims-are-without-foundation-970893/?s=1
"There were a number of occasions when drivers left the track during race and practice that were not formally looked at by stewards purely because no lasting advantage was gained." Oh really Charlie ? Hamilton had all four wheels outside the track on his pole lap. You let him keep pole.
What's up with that??? I always thought during quali if all 4 tyres/tires "left the track" your pole was voided? They do it in MotoGP!!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Time for some here to take a step back, and re-read the article and input from Whiting and see again how the Stewards and Charlie assess the track, and the tools n techniques he speaks about. Max got a penalty and deservedly so based on facts and timing. Not nationality or any other bias found here in this emotional blinded forum. Kimi is in the press telling him to move on and accept it as well. Max is blind to the larger system that has more information than he does. It is actually making him look really entitled and stupid in the face of what Charlie describes, given Max' continued ignorance about his insulting words and stance.
I don't get the angst....he cut the corner of the track which allowed him to overtake on the last lap....no time for anyone to discuss if he should give the place back...no time for kimi to DRS him....and obviously if there had been a wall defining the track limits there instead of open space, the overtake wouldn't have happened. Even if Kimi DID chop him off, as Max claims, (and I don't agree) it was still overtaking by cutting the corner. As Brundle says, you can't bend the poles to make it a goal and you can't cut a corner to overtake.
+1 - he made the pass on the last lap. If he had 1 more lap of racing he would most likely have made a clean pass. He lost out and it hurts. Welcome to the real world Max. It does not always work out and you are not a hero of any kind. The system in place worked and the hard data on timing and distance was without doubt apparently and a penalty was put forth. I would think if any of us could see how they cross-correlate data etc in the Stewards room we would be impressed and find they generally do ok for the race and fans. There is simply no conspiracy.
About time, he needs to forget these things and move on, or they will build up and cause a lot more issues down the line
So are these last posts trying to imply that the Stewards are consistent in F1? LOL, you must be kidding or I've missed it.
Not at all, they are far from perfect, but Maxine keeping on with his argument gets him nowhere and may give him more issues down the line Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Must've been RedBull (Horner) who made him appologize. It's certainly not his dad, who whenever confronted with headwind, seems to fall back on a state of red mist.
I reckon Jos had the reasoning part of his brain vapourised in that fiery pit stop back in the day, he just loves a ruck that man
Max has a whole load of maturing to do. Quite frankly, knowing who his dad is, and an early arrival of success on the highest level, I cannot say that I believe he will turn into a well-adjusted humble man. I hope I am wrong.....
Well said, Bas,.........can you see the stewards accepting an apology gracefully ? No chance.....whatever one's views are about that last overtake, the fact remains that double standards were applied throughout the race, and many previous races. It would appear we now need stewards to oversee the stewards......or easier still, put Armco on every corner......simples.
Exactly. As I previously mentioned a few times, I wouldn't have an issue with the penalty if other actions that specific weekend where also penalized. I fully understand Max's frustration with Garry, I also would've called him a ****ing idiot (and more) in the same situation. To me it does look like Garry Connelly has something against Max, starting in Suzuka last year when he tried to penalize Max, but none of the stewards agreed with him...then he lobbied on his own and approached Mercedes and told them to appeal. That alone is a sackable offense to me, this is blatant manipulation if you ask me. Then not long after that in Mexico, he refused to penalize Elton for gaining a blatant advantage cutting the first corner on first lap, but did give one to Verstappen late in the race for doing the same, just less extreme. Now of course with the track cutting even though everyone did it the whole weekend, even during qualifying the pole lap stood! Charlie Whiting's selective amnesia is troubling. He said he didn't investigate Lewis' pole laps because ''the took the long way round'', does the man not understand momentum? In the past he's penalized people for gaining momentum... I fully understand Max's frustration, and I don't blame him for doing what he did publicly. Vettel has done the same last year. In fact not only do I not blame either I fully support them doing it. People ***** and moan that all racing drivers are ****ing robots, and here they are acting not like robots and it's an issue... As for the idiots sending death threats to Mika Salo...how ridiculous. The Dutch are infuriated with him somehow, thinking it's some sort of conspiracy, Ferrari Assistance International doing the rounds again, he's pro-Kimi and whatnot....good grief. People forget very quickly it was Mika Salo that appointed the absolutely ridiculous penalty to Kimi at Spa for not lifting on the straight for (ironically Verstappen's) broken down car....which was already behind the barriers and no marshals on track!
All this nick picking on Max’ behavior, (and even more weird, on Jos’ behavior, as you all seems to know him very well too….), seems like a bunch of pension ado’s crying for the sake of crying. Face it guys. Max is there not to please a few old farts on fchat. His only aim is to win. Senna did that and I loved it. Schumi did it and I loved it. I think we all did. Same as all the Hamilton haters are out there; they basically only wish he was with Ferrari so we MAYBE could finally win another wdc again….. Waiting on both Vettel and Raikonen is like waiting for snow in Texas. Finally we have a driver, who’s literally, not following the established lines, not brought by money but selected purely on talent, a driver that makes F1 again exciting and the only comments here are on his behavior?? Grow up, sit back and enjoy the show! And do not get me wrong, I’m not a silly fanboy but watching F1 since fellow Dutchman Jan Lammers entered F1. The only real issue is that we love Ferrari and we know that they suck, and have the wrong drivers, the wrong bosses, the wrong quality control, the wrong whatever. But denying the once in de decade talent of Ham ( last decade) and Verstappen (next decade) will only result in a spoiled afternoon every two week, for the next decade.. I’m not a fan of Ham, never was but he’s is good. You will not make 4x wdc if you are not, simple. And btw, I’m also happy for him now as this 4th wdc is special, as it will be his last. The new decade has started end of 2017
Max is a talent on a world stage. He needs to grow up a little bit. There are good ways and not so good ways to handle things. All racers want to win. Thats nothing new.....how you do it does matter. I would say the same about any driver who is a tad bit arrogant at the wrong times. This is not curing cancer or saving lives at all.
