did someone hear at Finali Mondiali something regarding 488VS?
or "just" regarding the FXXK Evo; what a thing! Image Unavailable, Please Login

I think the 488VS will NOT be just a little lighter, more powerfull, and bit more aggressiv. i do think that minimum one gimmick will come.
Kers as written i struggle to believe.
an (maybe active) rear wing (like the challange) or a rear wheel steering i can imagine myself better.

Also a package somehow similar with the Weissach at Porsche could pop up.
    A: for more money
B: to advance things like light weight and hand in hand going uncompromisingness. again less insulating material, more aero / huge wing, less rubber in the chassis, (option for) no radio nor satnav, carbon wheels, special semi-slicks, etc.

Without the package they will pump up the 488 Coupe sales figures. because still a fancy car.
With the package they will be back in the game if it is about lap times. Even if Ferrari is not joining the Nürburgring lap time slaughter - lap times are taken anywere. And for us drivers which do miss a bit the emotion what a 360CS, 430Scud also a 458Speciale have - compared with the 488GTB - it would be a blast du get something radical. so radical that it gets imperfect / to say it more direct: schitty for daily use. Because a lot of Emotions in cars are created on partly imperfection / comming from a strict focus on purpose.

Sorry Jo Ker ... imo you forgot to mention also the "normal" 458 ...

It's as fast and nice as a "Speciale"... and does 9000 revs ... :D

I think regular 488 coupe prices will soften dramatically when this car is launched. Combination of part ex pressure and not the latest thing. VS numbers will probably be high.

If numbers are indeed high then the advancements are not going to be earth shattering. Either way there's the new release paint, seats, aero (flaps and gills), no carpeting or glove box, reduced sound deadening, new wheels, tires, exhaust, interior trim, rear wheel steer, more standard CF trim plus CF manifolds and engine surround, more turbo boost and ECU tweaks to be more peaky, and likely north of 8K rpm (8200). And a catchy name after the 488 but not GTO. Too early for next gen brakes but will have new transmission programming to allow more slip. Just my guesses but likely pretty close if high volume. If full-on LE then look for the same and new CF body panels and active aero. Again my guesses. And yes standard 488 hit on values especially if high volume.

IMHO they should re-introduce more differentiation - beginning with the F430 it seems people do not care about the differences and the regular buying path is berlinetta first, then spider and then SE. It would be nicer to have a real range and most people actually choosing what they prefer rather than always going for the latest released.
They should make the SE a hardcore version that would be a real pain for daily use :)

The Speciale is really special and when it comes to driving and emotions imo it is nicer than a Italia!
I like the Italia a lot and i'm still a fan and would prefer it over a 488 GTB but the Speciale is a different animal... :)

It is really funny to read the thread. First I am really looking Forward to the new 488 GTO/speciale/VS or what ever the Name will be, BUT, to think this is a race car, or even Close to it, please, forget it.

The line will be as always (like with the 458):

458 Road Car - sporty Ferrari for the road, normal version
458 Speciale - sporty Ferrari for the road with some higher power, less waigth, some agressive look etc.,...
458 Challenge - Customer Sport with good horsepower (no rules from FIA etc.) and some modifications
458 GT3 - Challenge cars with muscles for semi prfessioneall racing Drivers, international racing, mostly Amateur races. Built by Michelotto
458 GT2 - RACE CAR for professionall Drivers, WEC, LE Mans etc.,... ! Built by Michelotto for customers and for the Ferrari factory Drivers, races

    Production numbers?

    458 Road: ?
    458 Speciale: ?
    458 Challenge: think around 300
    458 GT3: 107
    485 GT2: 42

Looking Forward to your comments ;-)

I think there should be at least as much difference between the regular car and the VS as there is between a Porsche Carrera 4 and a GT3 RS.
Just increasing power and throwing more carbon fiber would not make it.
Not road legal competition cars are a totally different topic.

for those who don´t know Raffaele:

10 MINUTES WITH FERRARI’S CHIEF DEVELOPMENT DRIVER

“Everyone can drive a fast car, but few can drive a car fast.”

There is, of course, a difference between a gifted experienced driver – someone who has the skills to pilot a car to within an inch of its limits – and a development driver who has spent a number of years with a specific car; someone who knows each and every nuance of the machine and exactly how to drive it beyond its limits.

I experienced a brief taste of such a high level of driving talent when I became acquainted with the charismatic Raffaele de Simone at Pista di Fiorano…

I was strapped into the passenger seat of the Ferrari 812 Superfast while De Simone was demonstrating the supercar’s astounding abilities on the famous test track. After an explanatory lap, the Italian picked up speed and made the car’s rear axle pendulate through corners at will. As he twirled the steering wheel with his fingertips, I marvelled at how at ease he was with having 588 kW at his beck and call; I instantly realised: a driver of De Simone’s calibre is made of special stuff!

    So, I asked him a few questions…

How did you end up in your current position as a development driver?

I started with the company in 2003, and from 2005 I worked for Ferrari exclusively. At first I was a racing driver, but then I stopped competing to focus 100% of my efforts on the development of road cars.

I’ve been taught by great teachers throughout the years; one example is Dario Benuzzi [who has been Ferrari’s chief test driver for a number of decades]. I also had to learn how to develop the all-wheel drive system of the FF. I also gained insights from Michael Schumacher after his first retirement from Formula One.

These master teachers allowed me to learn more while I remained in the employ of Ferrari and finished studying as a mechanical engineer. The only way to learn more is to stay in Maranello; it made me realise why we’re a special company.

From an outsider’s point of view, it looks like a dream occupation. What are the highlights for you?

To recognise and develop the potential in something you are working on – in this case, one of the world’s best supercars – or, as we call it, the soul of the car. At that moment, I appreciate my position most. I feel honoured to be part of the car’s gestation and witness the processes it goes through to become the best it can be.

How involved have you been with the testing of F1 and XX-programme cars?

I never assisted with the development of F1 cars, because that department is separate to ours. However, Ferrari used to test its Formula One cars extensively here at Fiorano until 2008, when the FIA set strict limits to in-season testing.

I help with the development of Challenge and XX cars. Believe me, those cars are incredible, because you explore ideas/concepts with the machines that really test their limits and there are no regulations or limitations to take into account. However, the car you drove today, the 812 Superfast, is more challenging to develop as it needs to perform equally well on the racetrack and the road.

The XX-programme is still used to acquire data, which is subsequently analysed by the factory. We also learn more about the interactions between the drivers and the cars. That helps us to develop the upcoming products for the next 10 years.

It would be best to keep the driver the primary focus in the development of future cars. We can’t continue making cars progressively faster and more powerful, while conforming to emission rules and regulations, and not keep the driver in mind. The car and the driver need to work together for the best results.

You have been with Ferrari for numerous years and have driven a plethora of production and race cars. If you could choose three Ferraris to have in your personal garage, which ones would they be?

These cars would obviously be for my personal tastes. I’m now a father of a four-year-old boy, so I will definitely opt for a GTC4Lusso – with the V12 engine. I can also use the all-wheel drive system as I like to go skiing. Then a 488 Spider and, finally, a 2005 Ferrari F1 race car. Those three cars would make me very happy!

Really, this thread deserves more hype and participation, we're talking about the VS of the 488, not about fast foods. I'm sure someone knows a lot and have seen the car at this point. My interest is mainly on the possibility it has an active spoiler/aerobrake as Enzo/ LaF / FXXK

Hopefully there will be news before; for the regular 488 there were not until December/January IIRC (with official specs posted by Ferrari just days before the private presentations mid-February).
