Joe, are you sure this South African car is a DD, not a 400S or 500S or 5000S? This opens up a wider question: can you tell an LP5000S from a (non-skirted, obviously) QV from the front of the car?
I'm reasonably sure due to the placement of the front fender turn-signal, plus word from the region. As rmolke85 says, most Downdrafts (onwards of very early 1985 examples) have the front fender turn-signal light placed higher in the fender than an LP400S & LP500S. Also, if you are looking at a head-on shot you can often see the prominent power-dome of the engine cover.

Rob, It does indeed! The poster's information states the car is a 1987. BTW you might be interested to hear that one of your excellent UK-based magazines will be doing a major piece featuring the Countach Downdraft, covering the car's conception, production, performance, testing, all culled from the men who were there in the era and resources of the period. Of course it's place in Countach lineage is explained. Something to keep us entertained over the winter! Hope you guys are well. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Indeed, I was very fortunate to meet Marcello Gandini @ 15 years ago (he signed one of our Countachs), what a gentleman, I'd describe him as a quiet genius.
