the 100 laps a good sign , hw doesn'tb seem to have any problems completing gps...but is it lacking some speed..hope not, rooting for you Robert!
Endurance is more important than outright speed for Kubica. Remember, he is driving the Williams . . . .
I think a question of race-craft and reaction will be part of this. How much does he still have and the endurance of course.
Race-craft and reaction can't really be measured this week in Abu Dhabi whereas endurance can. Also, Kubica is reportedly bring big bucks from the Polish oil sponsors. That sum can be measured very, very easily!
Sicehe's testing the hipersofts tomorrow i guess they will concentrate on speed then, today should be again about endurance, wich seems to be more than adressed.
What were they testing today? They don't have the new halo on the car and none of the new designs will be launched until late Feb.
yes they did.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login plus alot of aero testing too.... https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/133324/im-not-driving-onehanded-says-kubica Robert Kubica has insisted he is not driving one-handed and is in better physical shape than when he was last racing in Formula 1 back in 2010. The Pole is bidding to return to F1, six years after suffering life-threatening injuries from a rally crash in 2011, with Williams. He drove a 2017 Williams on day one of Pirelli tyre test at Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, completing 100 laps and trying a range of tyres. Kubica will return to the car on Wednesday for a couple more hours of running, when he is set to focus more on performance runs. There have been some concerns about his fitness, particularly regarding the use of his right arm, but Kubica moved to dispel those fears. "There is someone saying I'm driving one-handed. I'm not driving one-handed," he said. "I think it's impossible to drive a Formula 1 car with one hand. "But I have some limitations so in some way my body used some compensations, which is not wrong. "We are human beings and our brains are used to help our bodies overcome disabilities. This is normal daily life. "This is something I think I'm on top of."
Let's also remember these are tire tests not Free Practice. We don't know what the test program was for each team...fuel loads...aero settings. And on top of that it is his first day in the car. 100 laps would get him through two full grand prix races...and coming in seventh would not be shabby. I think the endurance factor has definitely been answered. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
Anyone notice the pics above regarding Mclarens Halo? Look closely....you can see some "aero" attachments added to already and they're the only ones to do....for now. Here's a better pick.
Wonderful now the halos will be littered with fish gills, scallops and turning vanes. Yet McLaren is the only team that does not want shark fins.
