I go there a lot lately, and have a handful of staples I like to bring home. Various frozen dumplings, Persian cucumbers, their own brand of Scotch...

What am I missing? I'm heading out in a couple hours. I'll check back in for suggestions.

No, Tom, 348 is on the upper position of the car lift. I'll be trundling along in this beater, which is almost as fun for opposite reasons.

Gotta take a break from the jo-jos, and other fried items. Then again, it's hard to resist deep-frying those dumplings... Must resist. But I need to put booze on the list. I have plans to seduce wifey...

Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Hey, where are all the foodies? It can’t just be Tom and me. You all too good for Trader Joe’s?

Here’s some of what I bought. I expect half of it or more to go into the deep fryer. But tonight, I am enjoying some leftover Pizza Hut. Their pan pizza is like crack. Aw snap, my feet got in the picture!

Too late for this trip....but the missus is keen on the organic olive oil in the square bottle for around $5.50. It's a staple.

We have Trader Joe's, but Central Market - which is the high end of the HEB supermarket chain - is so good, we never go to TJs. Wife and I went to one in SF, last time we visited. As I recall, they had a good selection of cheeses & breads.

Got a flyer from TJ's yesterday and the only thing that caught my eye was the bacon wrapped Porchetta. They opened one near my and I went for a while but unless it's TJ's brand it's basically overpriced stuff. I did like their "A strawberry walks into a bar" breakfast bars though. :) I might make a trip out there to check out the Porchetta though, that sounds good!!

Coconut milk, vanilla, and almonds. Whip it to smithereens in a food processor for a delightful dessert topping. Presoak the almonds if you’d like for 12 hours or more to remove tannins and skins. Chop briefly, adding small amounts of water to about equal ratios. Add vanilla of flavoring of your choise. I like anise.

Searching almond creme might give better instructions than I have relayed here. I just wing it.

Thanks, everyone. I got some potatoes as well from TJs. So tonight, join me as I deep fry them and the other goodies I displayed earlier. Stand by...

I can almost smell the deep fryer heating up from down here! [emoji3]

Btw, wife and I were at local FCA Xmas party last night, and they had fried ravioli. That might be something to contemplate for one of your future endeavors.

Ravioli, Tom? That sounds awesome! You could’ve mentioned that last night before I went to Trader Joe’s!

Once again, I’m using the paper bag method of soaking up a bit of oil from the fried foods. Here is the first stage of the fried potatoes. They require two stages of frying. I’ve been going through a lot of these paper bags lately. Is that a bad sign?

Image Unavailable, Please Login Look at all of these powdered dumplings (and hotdogs). They remind me of 18th century French aristocracy. Cake batter make up“Let them eat cake!”

Image Unavailable, Please Login Oohhh, I can’t let this hot it will go to waste. I’m going to take another attempt at deep frying one of my backyard chickens eggs. This time, I will put it in with the shell for a minute, then peel it and deep fry it.

Image Unavailable, Please Login OK, I’ve sampled everything, and here are my conclusions. The fried hotdogs wrapped in pastry is by far the best. The fries are good as usual. Those Chinese dumplings are OK. And the fried fresh egg is about as good as an egg can be. Probably looks better than it tastes. I still need to figure this one out. It really depends on what sauces you dip it in. But man, that fried hotdog is dangerous! Even when dipped in that pink crap my wife likes.
