Its the style of car you either like or don't. In many ways the opposite of a Ferrari. Wheel design is quite plain and unflattering yet the rear and front design is seriously over complex. I do, however, respect the performance and the mark yet have never felt the desire to own one. I'm sure they appreciate your business in a way not common to Ferrari.
I know this has nothing to do with either of the two cars, but dang... For me the GT2RS is the real alternative to the 488 since I am not interested in drag racing, and it does not pretend to be the same price as the 488. It's more honest than the 720S in all respects My hope is for the 488 VS (GTO or whatever) to be on par with the GT2RS, and then I'll change my 488.
The GT2 RS couldn't be more different than a 488. The Porsche is a street legal race car, the 488 is stree car that rarely if ever sees the track. It come std with seats that look like a couch. It sits 2"+ over the tires, kind of 4x4ish. Then you have a track weapon in the Porsche built with a purpose. Apple's and oranges.
The GT2RS was conceived and executed as a track car. It fully looks the part and plays that role. For those who track multiple times per season, this would appear to be the car. I would suggest that we change the heading of this thread to 720S, 488, Performante, GT2RS and any other car that appears to be a contender in this class.
So you don't think that has anything to do with the talent of each driver? 1.5 seconds is a lot in racing but could be lost in one turn very easily.
Such an ingenious street legal race car and then again and again this ugly and boring limousine dashboard which destroys immediately any racing atmosphere. I do not understand Porsche, for me a reason not to buy.
It's just significantly quicker on the straights compared to the Performante. On that video it hit 232 km/h on the long straight compared to Lambo's 220!!! More power, less weight and no 4WD losses. RWD is preferable on dry and grippy tarmac after all. Not to mention that the Lambo carried the weight of the cage as well. It was on grippier tyres though, the amazing Trofeo Rs.
According to Mclaren that’s 2-3 years away. There will be multiple steps up over the next couple years from different manufacturers. So we’ll have plenty of alternatives by then.
I didn't say two years from now--I said 'today' And in two years there will be a batch of even better GT cars to whoop the 720 GT LOL.
Yes its quicker on the straights, however if you look at the laps, the GT2 RS rotates and sets alot quicker then the Lambo,in result the driver is on the power early. Minimum speeds in the coners are similar, its just that the RS get off better. Lambo has a bit of understeer and the driver is waiting too long to apply throttle.
So the GT2 is even more so the game changing car here in this thread I guess? Both Perf och Gt2 amazing cars, VW group really knows how to build fast (mostly realiable) cars.
The lap time just posted for the GT2 RS mentions that they used a Cup2 tire that is not available and will only be available by special request. In fact, even though the car comes with N2 Cup2, the Cup2 used are an even more aggressive unmarked version that you can only get from Porsche and have to specifically ask for. So yeah, that lap time is already suspect. On the standard Cup2 it will be slower. This is the game manufacturers are playing now -- do a lap time on one tire that has the same name, but isn't really the same tire. AMG GTR did this as well. The Cup2 used in the super fast laptimes isn't the Cup2 you get standard. This is why the AMG GTR laptimes vary so much.
Have we forgotten the little engine issue on the last GT3 already? HOWEVER, Porsche stepped up big time to customers. As a matter of fact on my GT3RS, I received a letter in the mail from them stating my car now has a warranty until 2022 or 100,000 miles. Never had an issue with it, but I'll take the extended FREE warranty. Don't know many manufactures that would do that.
Porsche has had its issues. I have owned 8 of them and the only ones that were fault free was the Turbo S and Boxster S. There was the IMS debacle, I had 2 convertibles need the roof motors changed, Turbo coupe had the suspension require replacing and C2S go back 3 times for ECU issues. The latest Huracans are especially reliable now.
A side effect of 4WD. That's why Porsche's track cars are RWD. Still the bigger difference is on the straight itself.
Yeah, and we could go on and on about every other maker in this thread. No need. My statement is still true.
