no worries, i am confident in my own opinions and appreciate your viewpoint and comments. my rejoinder would be - that the front grill is divisive. it is not my favorite aspect, but i have gotten used to it and even like it from some angles. it grows on you. - the driving lamp shape echoes the trapezoidal shapes that repeat across the interior and exterior of the car. again, after a while i think they work well - especially from head on. - the 'collapse' at the A pillar is similar to many sports cars - my 430 for example, or the corvette. and creates that tension across the front end profile, like a leaping cat. from inside the car it is a cool aspect since it raises the perception of the front fender mounds. - the back is actually the area i like the least ! the haunches are cool and powerful, but the direct view of the rear is slightly 'asian' imo. but i have also gotten used to that. imo, the best views of the car are from the close in rear 3/4 (ie, stand at the left rear wheel, and look forward at the waistline undulating all the way to the nose). and the profile- which is like a 2 door italian, but is actually a 4 door. anyway, i appreciate a pro's perspective, so thanks !!
Re the Lambo Urus......this is how I think we'll be seeing most of them......the Dunes in SLO, Baja back roads, Mojave......you know, dukin' it out with the Raptors and all......(NOT) Image Unavailable, Please Login or maybe this would just be part of the daily commute.....
Drunk on nostalgia. If Oldsmobile was still around; that sedan is what they would build. Oldsmobile was the forward thinking GM division. They built the first mass produced fully automatic transmission for 1940 model year cars. Introduced the sporty 1954 Oldsmobile Starfire. Then the smaller performance cars were introduced by Oldsmobile in 1964. Other GM divisions also took to the idea of extra horsepower in a smaller car. Oldsmobile introduced the full size V8 front wheel drive 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado which won the Motor Trend Car of the Year award for that year. Oldsmobile was innovator... ok. now i get you. well, the toronado was pushing the envelope, and i have always liked it. i can see some resemblance of the wheel arches pushed out and flat on the edge.
Image Unavailable, Please Login Interesting. I spent the 1st 4 years of my career in the Olds Exterior Studio when the Cutlass was selling over a million cars a year. The packaging of the Fiskar is too extreme for an Olds, but the theme wouldn’t have been too far off. The Fiskar even has the Olds split grille! The Olds Aurora comes closest to the spirit of a Karma. 98’s had more of a ‘regal’, Luxo look to them.
Let me be more clear; there is no Olds 98 anymore. If there was this design is in my personal opinion something they would do based on the design shapes of today. It looks like a 'modern' expression of where the Oldsmobile design might have gone. Again just my opinion. To put the design in context it looks more traditional. The design doesn't look like one of those contrived Japanese designs where they are trying to one up each other with more and more extreme shapes. Someone called them angry insects.
While we're on the subject of Fisker, any thoughts on the Fisker autonomous shuttle? I quite like the simplicity & overall shape, but the again I own an old Fiat Multipla...LOL Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This is the future. EVERY student I have at school has at least one of these pods as part of their portfolios. Making them look different is a real challenge. Maybe they don't need to look different, and they're just people pods as it were. Don't know if branding will be important in that environment or not. If people think today's cars all look alike........you ain't seen nuthin' yet! The interior packaging and functionality will be the real differentiators.
Not sure I agree with this - All pods look the same? Maybe, but in the context of the urban fabric, I think we're still going to want variety. Look at the structure behind that Fisker image. Do we want ALL buildings to have that same massing? Probably not. We live in an era of self. If we want a different fashion in clothes, we'll probably want a different look in our Transpopods as well...
I wholeheartedly agree. With the next generation of designers, they’re trying to ‘personalize’ the ‘pods’ to make them look distinctively different. But to me they are still ‘pods’. It will be the designers job to differentiate and add character to all the ‘mobile toasters.’ I’m looking for the beautiful solutions. Apple has done that with the ubiquitous phone. Elegance through simplicity. Stay tuned. I haven’t given up just yet.
Oh, I don't know; I think ...somebody will differentiate.... Image Unavailable, Please Login Can you say Rinspeed?
I don't think anyone is going to care what their POD looks like. After ordering it on their phone, they'll get in and turn their VR glasses on. When they get to work, they'll get out and never look back. The irony is this puts us back to the Model T. The future will belong to the lowest cost producer of PODs, which will probably last 20 years before needed a major service. My bet is that producer will be Toyota. The interesting part is we'll still have cars and trucks. Some of us will live in the boonies where the PODs won't go. Others will want a car just like some today want a boat. Who knows? Maybe Ferrari's low-volume production, compared to Toyota making PODS, is the way of the future? Imagine that.
I believe color is the "go to" solution that the next generation of designers seem to be employing to "personalize the pods." I call this the Easter Egg solution that seems to be repeating itself for pods. Remember back in the 1970s when Braniff Airlines painted its airplanes in 7 different colors (the end of the plain plane)? It certainly got public attention and differentiated Braniff in airports. http://www.braniffpages.com/1965/1965.html
