I have a photo of what I believe might be the car that you are referring to..It's in his lounge room,,but the guy is Indonesian and is a acquaintance of my best mate,,the car does have the engine in it though and apparently he flys the car to Maranello to track it..

I agree 100%, remove the aero add-ons that clutter the bodywork. But it won't happen, because Ferrari has the best (and most expensive) wind tunnel and they have a veto over rule changes. Ferrari is at the heart of the "show" in F1 and probably always will be.

Ferrari are also happy to support ever-sillier engine rules, because their ego says that they have engine R&D capabilities better than anyone else, despite losing to Merc/ilmor for the past decade. At least the new rules for next year are a small step back towards common sense.

I have no idea, but I would guess US$3m + for the '89 car. Problem is that it's not eligible for historic F1, the only series you could actually race it in is BOSS, which has limited circuits mainly in Europe. Also, the only spare parts support is from Ferrari, so the car would be expensive and highly inconvenient to run - a failure of a minor part would shut you down for months - that's why the Corsa Clienti thing exists. It's for poseurs who can pay for Ferrari to wet-nurse them.

GBN in Australia is now casting his own engine blocks - Ferrari must hate that he's independent of them.

The front of the 458 looks like a cat fish. 488 is such a huge improvement.

I know he can afford it, but that's a HUGE undertaking, even using CAD/3D printing for the sand. Says a lot for the cost of factory support.

not cheap indeed but these days specialists use a laser to scan an object in 3D, then a 3D printer to make a plastic copy, then make the mold from that.

That's how the Benetton B186 was repaired after it went backwards into the wall at SMSP, shattering the transaxle casing. They glued it back together, then took a scan.

I have been fortunate enough to drive an F1 430 and I thought it was great. Big improvement over the 360.

Couldn't imagine a manual box in one, but I guess the owners of the manual box would love them. *Maybe* :)
