Not that long ago 246s were considered expensive at this price..............355 appreciation as a collectable is just beginning

    Really, a 246?

A 355 is up to 22 years old, a 430 up to 12, both mass produced compared to a Dino which could be nearly 50 years old - totally different IMO.

I agree but the standard version 360s and 430s stick shift or not were made in far higher production numbers than the 246 and 355..... So both the 246 and 355 would be more valuable if you work on the supply and demand principle....

Ferrari started phasing out 6 speed with the 360, only 30% of total production were 6 speed. F430 it was only around 10% with 6 speed.

    355 6 speed - 8,649
    360 6 speed - 4,749
    430 6 speed - even less than 360

Looking at it from a 6 speed perspective we have seen 355 fetching over 300K now, what will this do for 360 & 430 prices ?

erm, all those Ferrari models have the same 6 speed transmission, the difference is manual vs hydraulic gear activation.

in the 360/430 forums 6 speed = stick shift

I am well aware of that Ian, however some people consider moving a clicking stick the holy grail, whilst pulling a paddle is meh !! Even though its the same gearbox.

    Why are 6 speed 355 fetching 300k and 355 F1's half that ?

    Same gearbox right ?

The point is calling them “6 speeds” is annoying and misleading, because it implies the F1 cars are not 6 speeds, when of course they are.

Manual or F1 transmission is how they should be described.

I agree, I just modified my post above as you replied, its how they are referred to in the 360/430 forums 6 speed = stick shift, whether we like it or not.

Those two cars were very special examples.
Perfect original condition, most desired spec etc.

Manual cars do attract a premium, but to suggest that all manual 355s are worth twice as much as all F1 355s is untrue.

Fair enough. It annoys the crap out of me when they do it in the 348/355 section but my fingers are worn out from pointing out the (deliberate in my view) error.

It would be great if we could keep that particular Americanism out of the Aussie section.
