I am taking delivery of a new 488 GTB next week and when the dealer sent me pictures, I noticed the Tach was not the color I ordered (came in black and not yellow). Dealer said there is nothing he can do about that. Has anyone had any experience with wrong spec's being built and have any advice on a solution? Frustrated that the immediate response was "sorry for your luck".....

    That is indeed unfortunate.

Haven't had that experience with Ferrari though. In my neck of the woods at least (don't know if this varies regionally), if we were talking about a daily driver brand (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi for instance), if the car doesn't arrive in the exact same spec you ordered it, you can refuse to accept it. For all intents and purposes, you ordered one thing as per the contract you signed, and that's what you have to get. They'll then take the car and make it a test-drive car, press car, staff car, you name it. Then you have to wait for another factory slot, which will eventually come your way at the expense of several months.

Don't know if it's the same with Ferrari. I'm guessing it's not, as most things aren't.

Kind regards and best of luck,

    Nuno.

Sorry to hear that. Nuno's post is spot on. It would be on them to replace it with the right Tach Color. Let us know how it goes and best wishes.

Ask them to install a yellow tach or refuse the car.

Luckily a tach is something that can definitely be installed at the dealership for relatively low cost.

At least they didn't get the interior color wrong! That would've been a true disaster.

I would accept the car and enjoy it, don't give it another thought. Life's too short.

A friend of mine in our local FCA chapter got a car delivered in the wrong color - it was gray, but not the right gray - he refused it and got the right car, but it was months, of course.

The tach they could easily fix on that car. Make them do it.

Thanks for all the comments, hopefully dealer will swap the Tach out if pressed on the issue, if not, I agree with The Nutsack, enjoy the car, life is too short and I don't want to wait 8 months to get another car...!!

You ordered an expensive car and specified the options. What is wrong with this world? The only correct answer is "yes, sir, we will make it correct - don't worry about it and thank you for your business". Anything less is wrong.

I saw a 488 spider recently at an FCAR dealership a gentleman ordered 400 k price tag. He ordered carbon everything. I mean everything. Car comes in with carbon everything except..... carbon LED wheel. He refused the car.

Same thing happened to me. I had 2 mistakes on my last car order.

    1) missing GPS
    2) did not get the two tone dash I requested

Ironically the dealership fired my salesman a month before the car arrived. Got the same response "sorry, about that... Now isn't the car great!"

To get the two tone dash I requested (it as not offered at the time on the regular option list), I sent the salesman photos of other cars and an actual diagram with call outs of how I wanted the interior and dash done. I asked 3 times if it was ordered correctly because I didn't see it on the build sheet. Each time it was "don't worry".

    I should have worried.

I think ordering mistakes happen more often then they would like to admit.

I learned my lesson. Next time going to the factory directly, even for a simple build.

Either it was ordered incorrectly, or the factory messed it up. From my experience (12 years in Ferrari sales, ordering them was part of my job), it is usually the dealer. Ask to see the factory order sheet, which can be printed out by the dealer. It will show you precisely how it was ordered.

For anyone else who will order one, ask for this sheet after your dealer tells you they put the order in, and go over it with a fine toothed comb. There is limited time where an order can be corrected or changed. Once it gets locked out, you are out of luck.

That is correct. But some things are not on the build sheet or are confusing. At some point you have to trust the salesman or the dealer to communicate it properly.

Its really easy for the salesman to type in one code for a yellow tach instead of white. That's another problem -- they need to find a way to minimize human error just from a weak nomenclature system.

EXACTLY! We teach people how to treat us. As long as Ferrari buyers think THEY are doing us a favor, THIS is the treatment you will get.

You think he should refuse delivery because of the color of the tach? Then wait another year for another build?

Contact North Hollywood Speedometer. They can change the color of the tach. Send the quote to the dealer and have them comp the labor.

The dealer can change it. They don't want to. If it was on the spec sheet then they view it as the responsibility of the person who signed off on it -- the future car owner.

a friend of mine got wrong wheels on a 458 he threatened not to take it , then the dealer got. him new wheels not really a big issue and it should not be a problem for the dealer to change out the tach really not a big job and for the price of these cars they can buy you the correct tach...

You tell them that you will take the car and get the yellow tach ordered in. When it arrives you bring the car in for a free tach swap to what you ordered.

Anything less isn't right. It's the way it works.
