I read some old chats about the prototypes and pre-production cars. I have some strong evidence the factory(or Bertone) used also an Urraco body shell for 40016. The body number was changed. A small plate was welded on, where the original body number was stamped into the steel plate. On that new plate a new body number was stamped 020! This gave me some truble with our Dutch Ministery off Traffic. I had to convince them this was original. The factory write them a letter to prove that fact! Are there more Silhouttes known with that somewhat strange chassis upgrade? Also the chassisnumber is stamped on a plate that is welded on Image Unavailable, Please Login

That is typical, also many Jalpas had these, almost all US Jalpa got overwelded with new VIN's.

What is the left part of this number? Urraco was 1060.

    Hi Raymond,

Yes it starts like the Urraco shells start with * 1060.

I wouldn't be surpised if the Silhouettes were built on Urraco bodies, at least the very first ones, the frame base is the same.
But *1060*20* was already used for an urraco (most likely for 15038), strange again...

I have not seen this before. The 1060 series, Bertone's internal reference for the Urraco, restarted from 1 for production Silhouette bodies.
The Silhouette chassis was different to the Urraco and had the P118 chassis number stamped on the right rear turret, whereas the P300 chassis number was stamped vertically on the panel to the rear of the right rear turret.
All Silhouettes used a combination of standard Urraco panels and panels specific to the Silhouette.
I would have expected your car to have body 24. You should be able to find the body number stamped on the headlight bucket tabs, the front compartment lid, maybe the rear compartment lid and ears and the doors. Knowing these might help discover what has occurred here.

Enjoy a teaser for now! We purchased it from the last owner for many, many years.

I removed the Ronal wheels as shown during the ownership of Mr. Heady and threw on a set of Gold Bravo wheels for now.

The car arrived to us as a "Survivor." Original interior, very old oxidized paint and non running. We will be completing a full service.

We have gotten a ton of interest to sell already, just no clue IF we should sell or the final asking price... The car is so unique and "funky."

On 40002 and 40004 there is a small VIN plate riveted on top of the location where Bertone stamped the body number.

40006 has a small body number plate but the headlight tabs also show '1'. The body number should match match the Lamborghini order reference number, used to track the car through the production process. This is why the 1060 series restarted at '1' for the Silhouette...

    Hi Raymond,
I think they used 020 or 024 for the Urracos.

020/15038 was a P250 with a P250 body, consigned in 1972. I have difficulty in understanding how can this can have been used to build a Silhouette...

May be your are right, but some things trigger you and you want to find out what they did in that black period for the factory. How they put pieces together to make cars and make some money. If you look at the body number (24) of mine Silhouette, how they made that, you understand why I get questions from our Dutch Traffic department about that number. If you look at the engine number, there are two numbers, 20002 and 40016. 20002 is stamped in the chain cover of the front V-bank next to the engine type number. But at the back of the engine 40016 is stamped into the engine block. Was this engine used in a very early Urraco and later re-used in the Silhouette?

For the Registration only 40016 is relevant, 1060-*** is an internal build number.
Every Registration title worldwide refers always to a Chassis-Nr, never something factory internal like a cosignment or order number.

For us enthusiasts the additional Information is also important, since it tells who the factory worked.

There is nothing stupid in trying to establish 'the truth'. Everything was done for some reason and the idea that there was chaos at the factory is seriously misplaced.

Meanwhile from your earlier post I understood your body number to be 1060*20* but now it appears it is actually 1060*24* although it does seem to have been 'adjusted'. A look at the body numbers in the other locations might reveal more. The body number was stamped to match the order number for each body so several reasons may have necessitated this adjustment. The important point is that 'body 24' and 'chassis 40016' are matched as per the factory records.

The Silhouette used the P300 engine. Many P300 bodies became P117/P200 resulting in unused P300 engines. Some Silhouette engines bear only the P300 20xxx engine number. Others bear the P300 20xxx engine number and the Silhouette 40xxx number and the remainder bear just the Silhouette 40xxx number. The build sheet should provide an internal reference for both numbers.

It is true that the chassis number is the legal identity of a car. However the body number is important to establish the authentic identity of a car, particularly so in the case of the Miura...

    Hi dear colleague "Bull fighters",

All that **** talks about numbers and which belong to what kind of car, that makes it so nice to own a moving piece of Lamborghini history from the good old days. Today with Audi in charge these chats aren't necessary anymore.

I wish you all a terrific driveable 2018!!

I was looking through some old car magazines and came across a Silhouette advert, not something you see often. This is from Octane March 2009, the Countach above looks even better value compared to today’s prices....

Judging by the double deck lights and the side of the engine cover painted red I would say your photo is of 40034, before the front bumper was replaced...
