car design thread

Guys, just to underline a point that perhaps should be obvious, all great companies face a period of decline due to stagnation. It's almost impossible to avoid. Jeff Bezos calls this the difference between Day 1 thinking (obsession with serving the customer) and Day 2 thinking (enamored with stupid processes that don't really serve the customer).

But also there are companies like GM that have weathered those periods and have come out on the other side. I happen to think GM could crush it with some of the small saplings within the company (electric cars, autonomy, un-tapping new markets outside of the US, etc.). We'll see.

If, if we had let GM go down, we would be witnessing a massive rebirth today. What we have instead is one long slow decline. Too bad.

Yeh, but you were like 4 years old & weighed 36lbs...

 

Looks almost exactly like the early 90's Chrysler Concord / Dodge Intrepid / Eagle Vision... "cab forward" cars.

 

Yeah, no. LOL. Just built the car. I've sat on the wings, no issues.

 

Very interesting. The GM Design legacy is stellar but that is mostly just a historical lesson any more. "The ghost of Harley Earl" may not be able to even find the place anymore. Of course when looking around at someone going to Detroit the choices are not good: Chrysler - will they stay in business or find a buyer? Ford - seem to always be in search of something but never quite sure what; same old political turmoil. GM - one can hope that someday someone high enough will have the ah ha moment on what Design meant (but is this just the eternal blind optimism?).

How bad was the talent drain to the West Coast studios?

 

Not a fan of the trunk that looks like a new Aston Martin but the rest looks to be great fun!

 

Like it. Same food group, if swapping some elegance for fun v. the original.

 

Makes me think of Boby Darin's custom. Take every styling cliché of the era and stick it on one vehicle.

Most of this looks pretty darn good from this angle, but I'd like to see the front, and I think they got the massing wrong under the taillights. The thickness / chunkiness of that area detracts from the elegance of the rest of it IMO.
