488acr or 488icr numbers game: not sure if above 720s. they say „highest power increase vs. donor car. for a V8 special series.“ (not for all special series) even if tdf is maybe a limited series... but f12 vs. tdf were 40hp. so 488vs will stay below 670+40=710hp? but above the 458 speciale increase of 35hp. anyhow. above 800nm i guess. i still think GTO. because it fits. also based on the successfull 488 GT3/GTE versions. and based on it that i do not see something really new. ok everything better, as always. so the name could be the most special part. engine -10% of weight. i guess only possible if you include airbox and exhaust in this calculation. the comparison in numbers against the speciale is and will be unfair. but hopefully the comparison in emotion will be not that far from each other. stripes? they could come with something new. like a driverside stripe. love it on the ACR.
When the 488 GTB was introduced, here there were rumors that the engine power could have been up to 750 hp, but it was set at 670 hp as at that time the flagship F12 just had 740 hp so they couldn't have a V8 with more power than the V12. As today the 812S has 800 hp, I would say 800-70=730 Ciao
While I don't know how they can go over 760 Nm, as the Getrag gearbox 7DCL750 is rated at 750 Nm and no more, so they already are 10 Nm over the gearbox rating and I don't think they changed the gearbox Ciao
I do agree that it will be highly improbable (impossible even) that Ferrari would go with a gearbox other than the 7DCL750 for the 488 VS. However, it looks like there is a revision of this gearbox which, while confusingly still having "750" in its name, can handle a little more (790 Nm peak) torque. See attached pictures.
I could be just me, but I couldn't care less whether it's getting 710 HP, 750 HP or anything in between. It'll be plenty fast anyway. I'd happily sacrifice 50 HP for awesome engine sound, more purity, more feel, more directness and thus, more FUN! I've driven the HP-trendsetting 720S extensively, and hard, on road and track and whilst being mighty impressed by it and it's speed, it didn't excite me at all. And when I stepped back into my hard-used (3 sets of tires and pads so far) 458 Speciale and I knew what I missed. More than 4 years into the journey, there's never a dull drive with that one! Sure, apples and pears, the 720S isn't the 488VS competitor, but in terms of fun and excitement, I'd pick a normal 488 over it too.
If quoting numbers, F12 Berlinetta to F12 TDF is 38. Which, of course, has nothing to do with the ease at which HP is gained with a small forced induction engine. The numbers mean nothing when a few lines of code can get bigger numbers.
I really think it's a cost issue. It's one thing changing the fenders to CF, it's another to re-engineer a door assembly to carbon. Edit: actually, from the pics, they're not even changing the fenders.
I can't wait to see actual pictures of it. From the pictures provides it looks like its going to be DAMN aggressive. It almost looks like it has a wide body to fit larger tires which would be defiantly makes sense. I'm VERY confident with its power upgrade and focus on extensive weigh reduction that this will in fact be faster than a LaFerrari. All LaFerraris both coupe and Aperta have been sold out and has reigned supreme since 2014 so Ferrari will move the bar ahead again.
Look, after having seen these pics, I think that, with new Michelin SC2, can match LAF on PZero Corsa, 1.20 seems ok. But LaF on new Michelin SC2 could do better, remember aero efficiency is important. LAF is almost equal to 3, 488 VS is equal to 2.0, still a record for a road going Ferrari.
I'm just having fun. Looking at the data available as well as past history of Ferrari VS cars. I speculated that the 488 GTO would come with Pirelli Trofeo R tires as an option but it turns out they are using the Michelin SC2's. I agree with you about the aero efficiency of the LaFerrari but I'll bet the 488 GTO will be super efficient as well with a lot less weight. It says quite a bit about the car when Ferrari post "The highest racing technology transfer on a street homologated Ferrari"..........that statement right there is exciting
I'm with you, what a fantastic firm, makes me proud to be Italian, it's just right to have fun speculating on this, I'm sure the new sport cup 2 are similar to trofeo R, remember what gt2RS tyres allowed to do on the green hell
My dealer is seeing the car as we speak. I have kidnapped his dog and taken it hostage . "info or the dog gets it"
Interesting, but I have the impression what they refer to as hp is actually bhp - I thought that hp, PS, ch and CV were all the same (most documents translate ch, PS or CV to hp without any value change, there is a change in value only when bhp is used). Just when we got eventually rid of the old SAE / DIN standards difference, we'll have now to adjust to kW
Guys, from all the gt racing features of this masterpiece...what if the name returns to Challenge Stradale? Makes sense, GTe stradale seems too powerful...I think that, maybe not in the metal parts, but performance wise it will be sort of a true GTO
