    Don't apologise as I am trying to understand it myself with nothing more than high-school science!

    Feels like the same as a pendulum which keeps changing direction but doesn't slow down if there was no air or bearing friction because no energy is being used. So I would expect the same in a reciprocating crank & con-rod set up, friction apart. One for the engineers here to explain...

    My guess is you'll also be able to get a coloured carbon at some point as you can for interior and exterior carbon. The downside is the cost would probably be through the roof!!!

    Thank you David, thankfully I am not a lover of coloured carbon so that option is off the radar. A bit of Grigio Corsa paint will do nicely thank you!

    So what I meant was once stripped to bare metal, it's not like you chose to leave them bare metal to show off the magnesium. Instead you chose to put a proper finish on them. And boy what a finish - they look amazing !

    Though I'm not a (piston) engine designer, I would think that the only way a lighter reciprocating assembly could release extra HP is if it reduces the shearing and heating of the oil in the journal bearings because of reduced loads here.

    Alternately, if the loads are reduced (though in the 'GTO' this will be offset by higher RPMs) the bearings can be made smaller and thus reduce losses, liberating more power.

    What I believe is that the black horizontal element that extends laterally and drops down to the lower lip level is either camo'd black, or is black until what appears to be a small vertical strake extending back into the grille.

    The red lower lip extends laterally and then turns up and meets the bumper creating a Speciale or 812-type turning vane.

    Below the red lower lip a lower level of spoiler drops down at a dihedral and extends laterally and would appear to create a flip up deflector as it wraps around the corner. There also appears to be a parallel little deflector just above it sprouting out of the red bodywork.

    Behind this, there appears to be a very Challenge-like vent/outlet and a protruding horizontal foot-plate, F1-style.

    Mechanically perhaps the same and final however the picture clearly shows differences in the front of the two cars.

    Look buddy. They aren't visually the same. Perhaps not all the CF is applied on one of the cars. See how the CF curls upward on the car on the right and not the left. See how the CF on the right looks vaguely similar to a 458 and the car on the left's CF doesn't continue the same. I'm not a Dr. or scientist but don't tell me the look the same. They don't.

    New paint technolgy inside the factory (and not Zanasi) because 488VS carbon fiber parts.
    Different paint temperature proccess and different finish after that.

    Thank God someone finally sobered up on this. Just forget gaining 50-60 hp from lightening conrods, (revolving inertia).
    Its like lightening a fly wheel, it doesn´t give you any noticeable extra power, but a quicker throttle response at the cost of a rougher idle.

    a 488 GTB with an aero body kit, an engine kit, a lot of CF parts, CF rims, a software upgrade and new street legal tyres: basically the 488 "Special Version" should be that.

    The differences between 308 GTB and 288 GTO were much (and much) more (power up 80% with turbochargers, reduced displacement, much wider, longe3r, brand new gearbox, turned engine, different wheelbase), so the GTO name is not for this car (in my opinion) as it wasn't for the 599 GTO... ;)

    But yes: the GTO name is perfect for making money and "the Sweater" likes money very much, so I don't know how it will end up

    Surely it simply takes more energy to turn a heavier mass and that's it. Make it heavier and you will rev less freely and use more power in doing so?

    You are right, and yes they are rather tasty!


    Thank you. That too was my understanding although they appear more bullish than I was, but as I said, I am no engineer. At least we all accept that the ability to rev quicker is increased.

    Because I remember a Ferrari guy saying that 7800-8000 RPMs was the maximum efficiency point for the turbo mapping and going beyond that point didn't make sense. I'm not an enginner but I guess that changing the turbocharger mapping could allow them to increase revs (if that's what they're aiming for, of course).
