Wrong. Lightening conrods is not comparable to lightening flywheels as they are not just rotating around a fixed axis so don’t have just rotational inertia to overcome.
'On a 300 HP engine, the weight saving alone generated by the piston not needing to expend energy to carry the rod itself up and down at each cycle, makes a difference of 35 to 50 HP for the same cylinder capacity. More power, for the same size, and fuel savings – even if this would matter little for the professional motor racer. '
Spoke with my F dealer who was in Maranello last week for the info ... He did not get a name for the new car and did not get any info on available slots .... thats the last real info
Confirmed What they expect is that in the coming days / weeks, Ferrari will send a list of "eligible" customers based on some criterias applied to their customers base file, as well as a number of allocated cars. Starting from that the dealer will propose the car to these customers and (depending on the situation) will try to negociate to get more cars and / or advocate other (additional) customers. This process should take place before the official unveiling, which should be just after mid-February.
Wishful thinking from most here, but from the information currently available, just more HP, BUT given the importance of "the noise factor", I'm sure Ferrari will keep the redline as high as practically possible
Agreed. My dealer tells me they have a list of 100 potential buyers although he feels the price may reduce that. Official Mission Impossible video launch at dealers on 20th Feb.
Indeed, my dealer also has more potential buyers than the number of cars he expects to get. Of these customers, some may not be interested eventually and some are totally off the radar (with no Ferrari history); it's still not clear to me how hard it will be to get a car though.
Given every dealer is waiting to hear from the Factory which clients are eligeable, anyone claiming to have a confirmed order is talking nonsense. I am hopeful, but no way assured.
BS, as it is now confirmed, will stay in the U.K. and if I get a VS, it will be off to Spain to party with the LM as that would be the right use for it.
Making a flywheel lighter definitely increases the ability to rev faster. Just listen to an F1 engine being blipped in the pits and the crazy throttle response.
It's like being back at school and waiting for your exam results - have I done enough to get through or not!!
Given what I am now hearing about the car leads me to believe it might well leave room for a proper LE.
But the question is.......will the general public get to see the video on Feb 20th? Will Ferrari post it on their website?
Yes, for THAT turbocharger. If you change model of turbocharger by installing one with a bigger mass flow (a bigger turbo) and the best efficiency at that bigger mass flow ( bigger mass flow is what you need to increase revs) you can go where you want. Then probably you will need an e-turbo with a 48V electric supply with a new 48V alternator to compensate a bigger lag you will have at low rpm: Means a big engine and engine bay upgrade, with a lot of development costs. This will be (probably) done for a brand new model, not just for a special version
No, I would only track it in Spain and at some stage it would come home, so RHD, if indeed I get one........
Agree. When they will learn that the car loaded will cost 400+ k euro, the waiting list will become smaller very quickly... Ciao
At first I thought that was very unlikely to sort out a 488 LE after this heavily race inspired 488 VS, given that in 2020 hybrid 488 successor on new modular platform comes out, but now I'm not sure...anyway, more special Ferraris are always welcome
a bit late to this thread so sorry for that and not bringing much or something new. I got my call today from UAE dealer asking me whether I am keen on the new 488vs/ss/gto whatever the name is. they wanted to know how much I would be interested from 1 to 10 and If I really want the car?" .... told him I am ready to come now and put the deposit. was told this is not possible. what I was told - HQ will vet all allocations indeed -UAE has good allocation and they hope to be able to satisfy all genuinely interested customers; priority for them is 488 owners and some other VIP, mostly the FOC club - he says I have a good chance for allocation but not confirmed (he will push for it bla, bla..); my profile is that I own a 488 and a speciale but I have bought 2 range rovers and one Maserati from the same dealer (they have all these dealerships) - I asked him for further details about name , specs, etc and was sent the pics from the event that were posted initially on this thread. nothing new on the name - the launch event in Dubai is sometime end of march / mid april and getting an invite will practically mean confirmed allocation, at least in the UAE
Roken is dodelijk That's everything i know. from the pack of cigarettes we bought in Amsterdam when I went there in my youth. To visit Van Gogh museum and nothing else ahahah
One big question mark (apart from the real demand when the price will be known) is how far the factory's criterias will be from the dealer's ones; as long as we don't know that it's really difficult to assess the actual chances.
