Money doesn’t buy common sense, taste or a sense for aesthetics. I find it offensive as an object never mind a car.. I’d take a griip g1 bac mono over that any day of the week.. if someone on here bought a 488 with gold wheels it’s not my taste I wouldn’t lambast them. I’d probably politely say it was nice. Not how I’d spec my car but each to his own.. but there’s a limit.. that car in my eyes is so grotesquely ugly that unless you’d use it for pure track use and had at least £50m in cash I’d be questioning your judgement. That machine is not a no compromise racer.. it has 2 seats to begin with.. of course this is just my opinion and there may be people here who have bought it.. good for them.. their money they can do what they like.. I’m just expressing my opinion.. I personally couldn’t and wouldn’t buy it.. If you have money to burn I understand.. unless that car destroys everything around a track which I doubt very much.. To some degree I can understand that it’s relatively speaking good value for money at 700k.. given its 500 units and a one off .. and called the senna.. but I’m afraid that’s it.. When even McLaren calls it’s styling “aggressive “ read ugly .. what does that say.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If amateur tracking was as competitive as say Le Mans, then the the Factory prepared car, the 'GTO' is virtually guarnteed to be quicker given Factory R&D, wind tunnel etc. For most of us, as you say, semi race prepare a stock 488 and you will get probably as close as to know little difference. But then it wouldn't be a 'GTO', it would be a pimped 488 and looked down on by some. There is a huge value in the brand, I suppose a little like sewing a polo player onto a shirt wouldn't be quite the same.....
And it will, save for the Valkyrie and Project One - but those cars are 3x the price. Aesthetics aside (since that is subjective), we should know better than to underestimate McLaren when it comes to outright performance capability. This car will be a beast and I look forward to how (and if) competitors respond with something comparable at this price point. One thing is for sure, Ferrari would never release a car that looks like the Senna.
Can I ask you how "wing, splitter, side skirts" are going to achieve an aero efficiency coefficient of 2? There are already lots of great aerodynamic solutions on a standard GTB to achieve the best value in its class and Ferrari engineers are no idiots. Let's not pretend this is a bit 'tuned up' 488.
Ferrari marketing men are genious and great money makers. They had the 488 that (many rumors here at the introduction time) developed 750 Hp. Then they detuned it at 670 Hp to sell the F12. Then the F12 became 812S with 800 HP and now they come back with the 488 at 75o HP and they ask a ton of money for the upgrade, calling it GTO (or what it is) and asking you to buy a Lusso (!!!) to be sure to buy this car at 150 k euro more than a standard 488: Warren Buffet is nothing! They are the king of the hill! ciao PS But they do know how to do great engines, as the 488 TT engine is a force and won the best engine title for years (and it will win the title again)
That makes me feel all warm and happy inside! Now I wish I could afford to go buy a Challenge car and go racing. What a trophy! A LE car just for Corse Clienti customers. Wow. That would be the ultimate "unobtainium" car.
Until we see if this mysterious LE car is real performance or just some Taylor made painting and custom interior, we cannot judge the performance and racing heritage of it...maybe they just do a sort of livery car as for the 70 years 350 limited cars. Maybe, I hope, they make a 488 GTE road legal, with a wing and faster than Senna..but I doubt, what's the sense in making an mixed car between 488 VS and 488 Challenge? They're almost quite similar..
If Ferrari releases a 488 LE to rival with 720 LT and Senna, it means that Mecca and Porsche have really threatened and upset the furious prancing horse
So what do we have now? - aerodynamics improvements - weight savings - engine tuning All done with minimal changes to the original 488; personnally I'd liked rear wheels steering. It seems to be carefully engineered, but I think we need to see full performance figures - and pricing - to assess the level of desirability. Although it will most probably sell easily, no matter my final conclusions
Let's back up for a second. Is the understanding that the 488VS is not a limited edition car? I'm not saying LE like the LaF but is it limited like the 458 Speciale and Aperta was? I'm just trying to clarify the terms people are throwing around. I see my dealer principal yesterday and we talked about the car. He did say that dealers will have to present their prospective clients in line for the car to Ferrari. I don't think that they have to do that with regular 488's and such so that implies that it's some kind of limited production. We did have a lot to talk about with the car but I didn't really ask about the process as it didn't seem all that relevant. I'm curious as to what's limited and what isn't.
Officially the "Limited Edition" cars have a pre-set production number (499, 799 or whatever); the "Versione Speciale" are time-limited (which actually limits the possible production number) but do not have a pre-set production number. The 458 Speciale was a "Versione Speciale" and the Speciale Aperta was a "Limited Edition". The 488 GTO (or whatever it will be called) is not a "Limited Edition", no number is strictly pre-set, but Ferrari expects (or communicates) that the demand will exceed the possible production number, hence this selection process that is indeed unusual for non "LE" cars.
Detuned 488 = rumour 488 having 750 horses = rumour "ton" of money = official source about price? asking to buy a Lusso = rumour All speculation done on forums. Very very little to do with ferrari's marketing team.
IIRC there's been some 'tuned' 488's putting out 800 HP. I just verified a tuned spider putting out 780 HP. Ferrari could do 750 I think relatively simply.
We need really 740 hp or more on the 488 VS, otherwise this Macca are to fast. Didnt know that the Mclaren 570s is as fast as the 488 gtb
I cannot write the source but I heard it with my ears Very likely it will cost 340 k (euro) + 30 K of CF rims (a must). Let's wait and we will see, as I'm not a fortune teller. Several Fchat members wrote (here) that, reporting it was the official tip of the dealership: it's not a rumor, it's a fact In any case we just have to wait for the official data and prices. I always appreciate Ferrari, they are great cars and an Italian excellence that I'm very proud and fond of, the cars are very fast and superb, but they are very skilful and masters in making moneys selling at high price everything too. This said, I like very much this 488 "GTO" ciao
Except it's not - here you have numbers compiled from different sources, better than one single youtube video: http://www.zeperfs.com/en/duel5623-5721.htm
What a posting... guess all the people with laferrari's, fxxk's, p1's, 918's, speciale's, f12tdf, 720s, valkrie, 675 lt, and the list goes on must not have taste since that's the typical profile of the persons owning or getting the car. I'm not saying it's beautiful. It is marketed a certain way and it's good enough for more then the number of people who are allocated one.
Ferrari/mclaren/porsche will sell out every car they make. With the competition it now depends on how long the product cycle is. More then 2 years and the order book for new cars starts becoming shorter and shorter. The secondary market is what tells how much demand there is for a car, especially at prices near or above MSRP and how long that will sustain.
I don't know the Mc Laren and Porsche, but Ferrari produces just on demand: they don't make a stock, a car in the production line means it's already sold. But they would like to produce much more Lusso then they are doing now and did in the past with the FF 100% agree ciao
