FYI the 458 Speciale A was internally referred to as the F142 VS SPIDER. (version Speciale) although it was obviously a LE car.

Maybe the submitting a client list could just be for the first round of allocations (ie., early delivery of cars) and then falls back into dealer decision after that. (no inside knowledge but that's how this stuff works some times).

What's the deal with "we need so and so much horsepower, otherwise McLaren will be too fast"? I really don't understand this:confused: Are you gonna race with McLarens on streets? I guess not... Are you gonna drag race them at stop signs, lights? I don't think so. Even if you somehow get a chance to compete with some other car on a straight road, a 40-50 HP difference alone is not gonna make you win. It all depends on your skill, tire conditions/pressure, reflexes, experience, etc. So why do you guys need a higher hp than some other competitor? If it is just bragging rights, then more power to you. If you want to compete with other brands on track days, I'd strongly suggest that you forget about higher HP's and invest on your driving skills, tires and brake pads. A Porsche Turbo or 458 Italia in the hands of an experienced driver will embarrass your 488GTO, 720LT or even your LaFerrari. Among equal drivers just an HP difference of around 50-60HP with such supercars will not make you lap faster. It all depends on aero, brakes, cooling, suspension, settings etc. A 500HP 488GT3 will destroy a 1000HP LaFerrari on track any day.

So don't simply get obsessed so much with HP's, just buy the car which appeals to you most and fits your purpose owning such a supercar

According to you sources they are 0-300kmh exact the same 24,6 vs 24,7sec so the video is not that bad. How comes 570ps from Macca are equal to 670ps from Ferrari..

common......if you removed the stripes, than its a dead sexy GTO. Even with the Carbon fiber piece at the front which is already growing on me and I haven't even seen the whole car yet.

The CS, Scuderia or Speciale are not limited edition cars... they are special edition.

Spot on! I was talking with a fellow petrol head about this today. The main drivers for me in a fun or supercar are purity and driver engagement, handling characteristics, sound and, only lastly, speed. For example, the 720S blows my 458 Speciale out of the water in speed and probably handling, but is nowhere in terms of purity and sound. Get my drift? My little BMW 1M has hilarious handling, good sound (Akrapovic) and lots of engagement. Little speed. Still an epic car.

Straight line speed becomes normal, even dull, as quickly as the car is itself. Sound doesn't. Pure and direct handling doesn't. The HP race is a never ending story, mostly suitable to the Cars and Coffee crowd, less to the real drivers, IMHO...

Definitely the car, good spot. Is it me or is it looking a little 'haunchier' for lack of a better word?

My biggest question looking at the rear is where are the rear vents normally next to the taillights on the 488? It appears they are closed in on this photo.

Definitely. It matches all the features seen in the slideshow pics.

Only question remaining for me is if you look at 2nd car in the background of the "stolen" picture, the rear spoiler seems way high. Does this mean it has a deployable high downforce setting, LaF-style?

I hope not long after the 488 GTO reveal, Kimi and Seb get a chance to pound it around Fiorano or another circuit.

Pretty cool that Kimi has been around for the 458 Speciale, F12 tdf, LaFerrari and not the 488 GTO launch

if you look at the slide shot pictures during the original presentations it will in fact have the LaFerrari style spoiler "load generating hydraulic spoiler" so it says

The vents near the taillights are longer and smaller in hight.

That's to be expected since the area in the quarter scoops (above the splitter) feeding these has been reduced quite a bit.

What's left will probably be used to blow the underside of the rear spoiler as noted in the presentation slides.

They may not be there at all, on the regular 488 IIRC air is channelled to them from the upper part of the side vent; it may be the case that on the VS this side scoop is not divided at all and sends all air to the engine - on the picture it seems there is a carbon insert around the scoop but no separation.

It actually says "load generating UPWASHED spoiler", so the underside of the spoiler is blown.
