I'll keep the 458 Speciale, whether I will be allowed to buy the 488 equivalent or not.

I respect Ferrari’s mastery with practically every release. There’s so much excitement and desire.

I know I want one! If given the opportunity, I’m in.

For people knowing more aerodynamics terms in english: what's the real difference between an upwashed spoiler (488 vs) and the 458 Speciale spoiler? I know what's a blown spoiler, but upwashed has an uncertain meaning to me.

Me too, but it likely will have the patented blown spoiler EVO, with an active flap in the nozzle air passage section, that opens and closes depending on situation to increase downforce generating more drag or to reduce downforce, limiting the drag for top speed.
Look at the Ferrari patents on google, it's super interesting. It will appear on this car or on the 498 sure.

Upwash (and downwash) is a term used in aviation indicating that the airflow at a particular location has a vector other than that of the freestream airflow (typically opposite the direction of travel).

So in this case, Ferrari is saying that the airflow that is blowing the underside of the rear spoiler is being introduced at an upward angle to help the flow remain attached at the trailing edge. See the picture below showing streamline:

A chip, a set of lowering springs and a body kit vs Ferrari's in house engineering and expertise? Like seriously? There's no free lunch if you expect the car to hold up reliably and perform as the full sum of its parts. Pointless trying to compare chalk with cheese....not even worth mentioning here.

I'm still waiting for the price (although if I can't get a car it won't make any difference).
If the gap is too high, and the goal is to be faster on track, I'd probably get a better result with my 488 GTB and some driving coaching - that could be an option...

Agree. Wont be the end of the world. 488gtb is more than good (and fast) enough. GTO would be nice though, price and availability pending of course!

Not sure but its basically a thank you to Ferrari's racing clients and I'm sure it will be something special. I'm looking forward to seeing what the unique features are as with Tailor Made there are a wide range of possibilities - so to have something that Ferrari thinks is unique should be really interesting.

Thanks, this seems really a severe change from normal 488 blown spoiler, where the air channeled flowed downwards, I think that this solution is a little better in reducing drag a significantly better in generating downforce, having an up deflection of the flow inside the blown spoiler channel. Curiosity is eating me up.

I agree upwash solution will be better for downforce but with extra downforce (even if more efficient as per the slide show) comes extra drag compared to GTB. Additional HP of the VS should take care of the extra drag ;-)

OK, I was at my dealer today, conforming that I'd be getting one of the first 488VS available. BTW, they received a list of "eligible" customers and it was a total joke as there were people in it who ware sooo far away of buying any VS type of car. However, some of the biggest collectors, Laferrari owners were not on the list, including me  Of course I raised hell :) and made sure that it will be corrected. At the end of the day, dealers will send back their list to HQ for the final confirmation.

I am also planning to go to Maranello on Feb. 20th to see the car.

    Here is the criteria

As for the car I also wanted to get some more info. While everything may not be accurate and of course subjective, the front looks much better than the photo we have seen. Lots of other inlets, aero details can not be seen on the photo. The rear of the car, he says, is very aggressive but quite impressive. Huge diffuser, FIXED rear spoiler which extends considerably more towards rear and upwards than the Speciale. He also says there is no middle brake light. He doesn't remember exactly but the front tires are wider than the GTB. He also added the front hood curls downwards at a great angle near the front bumper like a VW Beetle hood. That's all I could get, No tech specs, no clues for name.

Thanks for the info, even if second hand. Like a lot of second hand info on here, sometimes it's not very accurate.

His comment that the rear spoiler is fixed sounds logical from what we've seen so far but how reliable is this if he claims there's no center taillight when it is clearly visible in the car in the background in the "stolen" picture as well as on the latest test car:

Yes, more downforce is always more drag, but I think they made really a great tradeoff, having gained 20% efficiency is incredible. Really glad to discuss technical details with an enthusiast like you!

I hope, for his sake, that your sales rep develops a better sales pitch for the S-duct at the front of the car than that it looks like a VW Beetle, LOL.

He should refer to its inspiration from F1 instead. Just my 2 cents. :)
