I got it from IG. It's designer posted it in reference to the FGT. He designed it in 04 when interning at Pininfarina. He posted it in May of 17.

I think it comes from the dealer. It includes a couple of typos ("Citeria", "ect"), which don't scream 'official Ferrari document' to me. And, as you said, '488 VS' isn't the official name adopted to unveil said model to the dealers.

Very extreme and...I think I like it.

Thanks to everyone for a great discussion. I just wanted to add I think the J50 is a great looking car and I think the drawing by Arhimede is kind of along the line of how I was envisioning the rear to look based on some of these spy pics. Soon enough we will see the real thing and we will know. I can't wait to learn more about this car. I think its amazing!

True. The front also with the pointy nose and underhung protruding spoiler. These nose features also were a theme of the Pininfarina Sergio.

Very nice. Pretty sure the vents inboard of the lights are as you drew.

The top of the vents below the lights I don't think will blend towards the center if you go be the pic below. They appear in this pic to be an enclosed opening and appear to be angled forward of the diffuser. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Wish I could do that in 5 minutes. Great work, thank you!

Definitely looking haunchier or meatier around the rear, wider rear track, wider tyres, aero?

Image Unavailable, Please Login I see a little bit of this SP 458 design creeping into this 488 SSS. I am referring to the vents near the tail lights. Arhimede may have hit the nail on the head.

As we (thanks to your insightful input) are not expecting sheet metal changes because this is a VS vs LE, I don't expect a wider car at the back. In fact, if the wheels are widened, the track will be reduced.

Having said this, I'm pretty sure that on the 458 Specials they flared out the front fender lip - everything else being equal - in order to accept slightly wider front tires. I compared to a regular 458 and though barely noticeable and limited to the lip it was obvious. Seems like a lot of effort to stamp new fenders but impact on interface with adjoining panels was nil and maybe rolling needed refresh anyway.

One thing I find may cause headaches to an owner of this car is that by trimming back on the width of the side skirts, they have exposed the front of the rear wheel spats/fairing to a proper sandblasting from the front tires. Rally style mud flaps will be required at the front wheels ;-)

For those who will drive this car frequently, extra duty film may be required for these areas. I think we are losing some of the subtle details in this picture and I think those details will really make a difference for many of us. A quick look at the picture has me wondering about the middle of the front of the car- it looks unnecessarily wide, but if I look more closely I can see some detailing along the inside of the passenger side wheel haunch- more like in the earlier pics where there was a bit of a "U" or "V" style to the front area, which I liked very much. I also think the "mustache" will make more sense when we get to see the official pics. I am a little surprised at how far out the tires are from the body. Ferraris often have the tires somewhat set in. If the wheels are pushed further out, even if they are wider, the track might actually be increased, or perhaps remains the same. Overall, very fascinating, and wanting to know more. :)

This has me surprised as well. There are strict European regulations regarding covering the tires, and from the photo it looks like the tire is outboard of the fender, which is a no-no aero wise and regulation wise.

Sooner or later they will use it, on 488 successor or somebody else, what's the sense in developing a good feature if you don't use it on very sporty cars?? Can't believe will be limited to FXXK and LaF forever

It's hard to tell exactly what the shape of the perimeter of the S-duct opening in the hood looks like. The passenger side looks like it respects the lines of the original car but the driver side is hard to tell because of the light play.

I too like the definition of the lines on the hood of the original car and worked those in to my design below even though I knew the forward edge of the hood was moved forward from the GTB:

Thanks, @ingegnere I think your drawing is looking pretty close to the real article.

@jm2 I guess we will just have to wait and see- maybe the picture here is a mockup and maybe the wheels aren't set quite right? But on the other side of this point, I have seen German marques like Porsche and BMW offer cars where the tires are even further outside the body. I always thought it was more of a stylistic thing either the Italians or the Germans were doing.

I haven't taken the time to really look at it as it hurts my eyes if I stare at it too long, LOL.

I'll make a point of reading up on it. Thanks.

I followed for some seconds the 488 GTO prototype today in Maranello, around via Grizzaga, more or less at 03.30 PM. That's definitely the one in the pictures here. Unfortunately it still had the optic camouflage so I cannot tell more than confirm what the pictures leaked already showed

    Ciao

Not really as it was a guess at an extreme makeover with only the spy pic of the nose available at the time.

Nevertheless, it was a good guess at the vent ahead of front wheel, based on Challenge design.

The diffuser is very reminiscent of the GTE/GT3 cars. It will be interesting to see the car underside. Also notice the boards under the doors and how much further out than the 488 they go before being kinked in at the rear wheel. Still not a good view of the rear upwashed spoiler...
