I have no idea of what Ferrari will do, but I agree that just 900 units is a too low number, much more suited for a Limited Editions than for a Versione Speciale: they produced nearly 1300 Challenge Stradale and (more or less) 2550 Scuderia, so the number of this 488 GTB Speciale cannot be less than 2500+ units, as production numbers always go up. Very likely 900 units are for the USA only, that is Ferrari biggest market (at least 10 cars for each dealership, how many Ferrari dealerships are there in the USA?). My idea is that at least 3000 units of 488 GTB Speciale will be produced, that is 20% more than the 430 Scuderia production numbers.

Speciale production was far bigger than the Scuderia which was launched into the financial crisis and struggled to sell out

Thank you: I know the CS and Scuderia production numbers but not the Speciale data. In any case a reasonable production number for the 488 GTB Speciale (or what the name will be) is between 3000 and 4000 units. No way 900.

Don't know if this has been mentioned already but also to consider for production numbers is: will they continue to make the regular 488; and for sure the 488 replacement is due within a year of the Portofino, like the the 458 followed the California by about a year.

Don't think there is time or money to justify developing and certifying another version of the 488 before then.

There are some very different circumstances now that could affect the number - emissions legislation changing, emissions test in europe changing at short notice (huuuge problem for the whole motor industry here with many companies scrambling to meet the new criteria with previously planned models, and many having to adjust either specification or production runs), increasing competition in terms of power from McLaren and with Ferrari now turbo they may wish to adjust the range timings - introduce 488 successor earlier to coincide with 750LT.

No idea if any of this will prove to be significant, what I do know is that dealers have been told this is a much shorter run and lots of people who would like a car and might expect to qualify are currently being told 'no'. Some of the 'criteria' quoted in the thread does not seem to be entirely accurate either. Spider seems to count from what I can gather and I know of at least one person without an allocation who has had a Speciale, which he still owns, has bought 2 x 488 in different countries but has been told 'no allocation'. If this is to be a shorter run, it may well be a sensible response from Ferrari to things outside their control (legislation, competitors etc.) and as such, it is not an easy task to decide who gets a car. They seem almost destined to annoy some very valuable customers without really wanting to - after all, they are unlikely to say "this is a short run because our hand is being forced".

If they introduce a 770hp 488 successor in 2019 to coincide with the 750LT, I daresay many people will forgive them with their wallets...

I think that's a v sensible accurate analysis of why some of the numbers that will be made will not follow previous patterns ....

    good point lucky!

Euro6c kicks in for ‚last possible first registration‘ on 01.Sept.2018 - for existing base homologated cars.

Bmw had to switch from carbon to steel cardan shaft to find space for the particle filter on the M4.

at Porsche, the 991.2GT3RS will be availabe till 08.2018 without (allocations visible) and probably starting with 09.2018 with a particle filter.

when the first 488VS will leave production? i was told delivery in 2019. which should mean that it will pass Euro6c. if they could not fullfill it. and would start in Februar with the production. as P will do with the 3RS. than we would also see just. maybe 2.000 cars. if they force them all in within 6 months + probably later the rest of the world. would make 4.000 possible.

hopefully the 488VS do not pass Euro6c - which would mean i could do already this late summer some nice weekends on trackdays and in the dolomites.
and there would be still a couple of thousand cars possible.

my wife just said: good! so just another 9 month of pregnancy and not 18 again - to already gone 7. :D:D

Just heard from my dealer that they are only getting 40 cars for now whereas they were hoping for more being the largest U.K. Dealer I believe. Not being a 488 or Speciale customer, I am not, nor was expecting to be in the first allocation, and so go into the lucky dip whereby my dealer has put forward a list of names they would like to gave a car. We shall see.......

the 750LT will not be here before 2/3 years...Mclaren as far as I understood doesn't want already the depreciation of the 720S so I belive that the 488 successor will arrive before the 750LT.

Btw I just got the call that I got already an allocation for the 488 "GTO"....really can't believe it!!

You are very kind. Yes, I have a very long history with the company, but nothing would surprise me. However, as one poster sagely wrote, it's not like it's a cure for cancer!

"Only" 40 cars, one dealership!! They will build 5000...

At least 400 Ferrari dealerships in the world, 5-10 cars (at least) each = from 2000 to 4000 cars or even more

so here is the bad news: i got bumped by ferrari to one of the last production slots in spring 2020 (something like 'ensured quota on the reserve list', whatever that means....). this is too late for me, for various reasons, and now i am wondering whether to get a GTB right away or stick with my GT3RS......
the good news is that my dealer offered a confirmed 812 allocation for 2019.....take it or not....?

Seems like you have made it. Congrats. The allocation saga should be all set by the end of this week. Feb 20th video preview only for customers with a confirmed allocation from factory to avoid future drama with clients. in few days, we will all know where we stand in the Ferrari food chain...Few weeks ago I was confident...after reading all these criterias from the dealer show, I had concerns...and after speaking to my dealer today who told me that he can't tell me anything before Friday, I am in serious doubt. We will see...
