I was told that the preview is for a select group of customers. It will also include prospects that were not chosen to purchase the car....

Thanks Jag - you best described it - so happy with the 812 - has exceeded my already high expectations. A little frustrating I cannot drive it until I get it wrapped in a couple of weeks time as I just had the paint protection etc work done. And yes I am attending the Feb 20 preview here, and have placed my deposit for the 488VS but no word back yet on allocation. Fingers crossed!! In fact if I can get the VS, will help me from adding too many miles to my Aperta which remains a glorious drive. Thinking of triple yellow this time...maybe your version which looked great (and if kindly allowed by yourself?) Look forward to hearing what your spec will be!!

Like you I am waiting hopefully "for the phone to ring". How bizarre that here we all are hoping Ferrari will allow us to spend money with them. Wish my company was in that position :)

You’re right - Ferrari turn us into little kids. Decided to go for the VS Aperta so turned down VS and have the Aperta which I’m waiting on final confirmation. Seems like Aperta numbers are quite a bit lower than coupe. I just love convertibles!!!

That's great Carlo ! I'm sure your a certain for allocation - I'm feeling your excitement ! I've just read your post on the 812 forum - she looks superb! Ppf can't come soon enough I'm sure ! Triple yellow is a fab idea for the 488VS I agree - as you said my own Tm 488 from about 11/2 years ago with my own deeper/richer Shergill Giallo tri-strato is such a lovely colour ( if I do say so myself )- I'm going to mix it with electric blue for my TM 812 I'm doing st the factory on 19th march - and I intend to do it also on my 488VS ( if I'm confirmed allocation ) - your more than welcome to use my colour if you like - if you want to use PM me and let me know and il give you the official colour code ......
A fully carbon fiberd 488VS would be great in your Australian sun !!

That sounds like a good choice if your dealer has confirmed that you will get the VS Aperta , but did they say that if you get the VS that you won't get offered the Aperta or was that just your decision to have 1 or the other and not possibly both ?? Have I missed something here on the thread or are dealers already juggling a coupe and Aperta lists ??

Awesome - longer wait though I assume? I am a coupe guy and like to drive them "hard" so will go with the 488VS Coupe if I am selected. Will be my Speciale's "younger sister" :)

Could you please expand on that? I'd hate to get lured in with the thought I could get one only to later find I'd just been made privy to the details of a car I can't buy. Owch!

Would you know if any customers from these two dealerships has been advised of an allocation?

Maybe is a test drive car as there are many around maranello, or a tourist...if Ferrari realm tests Mecca, I'm pleased cause they will fight out 720S is actually a 780S, they know their game

Ferrari always inspect competitors cars (as competitors usually do with Ferrari): I personally saw an Honda Acura NSX and a Lamborghini Aventador under "evaluation" inside Ferrari gates.

This 720S is probably there to be evaluated too, as it has on the rear the small "test plate"

    ciao

Unfortunately this is what I was told by various reps. They also did not like this practise. The dealers have to invite several times more potential customers than cars are available. To "inspire" them to spend money and get a little higher on the list for future cars.... The reps were not happy as they know they have to disappoint a lot of people.....

I think that we would live in a better world if nobody was allowed to purchase a Ferrari and send it to Mclaren for testing, but, this is the war game, so, the more competitors are tested in Maranello, the better.

Thanks. Personally I think this practice is a future deal breaker. If they try that one on me I'm gone.

You always have to learn from your competitors (that all are high level ones) to improve your cars: that's a good thing for Mc Laren, Lamborghini, Honda, Ferrari and customers too, as there aren't perfect cars

    ciao

    PS
There will be very likely a second round of allocation for the 488 GTB Speciale, probably next year

Usually there is a "gentlemen´s agreement" between car manufacturers to exchange cars for free to test them.

When McLaren was developing their MP4-12C, they had to buy the first 458 in the UK to check it out, as they didn´t have anything to exchange at that time. It´s said that they had to pay a staggering sum to get that car.

No offense but I doubt there would be any gentlemans agreement.... The only thing worthy of exchange would be of the folding type. Business is business.

I don't know if this is done with luxury cars, but I do know that it's been done with mass produced models.

Also it was made public some years ago that Ferrari and Porsche exchanged an Enzo and a Carrera GT for testing. When asked about that, of course Walter Rorhl declared that their car was better.

A McLaren coming out of Ferrari factory gates in Italian test plates... wow. I'm puzzled because I've never seen that before, but I believe you if you have, and what we've seen there is unmistakable, Ferrari is testing the Mac, simple as that. In fact, this is the first time I see a manufacturer openly testing a competitor's car, and I've been kind of following this industry for a few decades now.

Ferrari test/analize almost all competitors cars inside the factory, even "normal" cars and not supercars.
Usually they go unnoticed as far as possible, clearly this was not the case.
