I'm down for a 812VS but have no interest in an 812 Aperta. I like coupes when it comes to "stripped out" cars. Cost me big $'s when I went with Speciale instead of Aperta but I am happy I did.

scuderia referring to a "Team" was actually adopted by Motorracing, it actually means "Stable" referring to horses and horseracing....while Team would be squadra which refers to a team in sport, a gang..or a squadron (military)...but to be honest i am also really curious how it will be named..but we ll find out soon..:)

Yeah, leave them to Pagani or Lamborghini, who had to denote the fact that one of their cars is 'performante'...as if the stock huracan wasn't. Go figure.

Didn't know that and...it makes sense.

UK dealers are calling it the 488 lightweight. Thinking about the ‘pista’ theme, it doesn’t seem completely off the wall. Ferrari don’t really seem to care about the way the name sounds, they have always been quite practical about naming - numbers and basic words, just in Italian they sound exotic to the rest of us. Something like Pista Turismo doesn’t sound that great but might reflect what they think abut this car - the PowerPoint slides seem to suggest this is the lightweight car that transfers most knowledge from the GT track cars, but clearly it is not meant to be raced. So, track car for ‘tourists’. After all that, hope it’s GTO.

Lightweight makes me think of gta, gran turismo alleggerita..used on a few alfa romeos. too bad ferrari already used the gta moniker (automatica) for the 456 but maybe they can resurrect it with a new meaning.

The look and performance of the car should qualify it being called any of the aforementioned names without any issue whatsoever, after-all it pants es all of them. GTO is good so let's see/hope. Not so sure about silly sounding names like Pista and the likes....I think that's asking for trouble and ridicule.

At this stage that seems even more strange, the lists of "applicants" / "qualifying customers" have already been exchanged between the dealers and Ferrari HQ.
While apparently one selection criteria was 488 GTB ownership, if someone is not in the list I tend to doubt just buying a 488 now would change that.

Everyone talking about the potential of "Pista" being the name..........all of a sudden GTO doesn't sound so bad....

Yes, please build a Dino 296. That would be the only new "Ferrari" I would buy. As in, I'd sell both of my Ferraris to get one.

I'd go for the 812VS also and would keep the Aperta and sell the coupe.

So confirmed 812 VS and Aperta?? Differently from the F12, which has only TDF and not series produced aperta version except for limited ones. Aperta in 2019 and VS in 2020??

Sorry, first wrong nickname with Porsche GT3 RS :) If you have to buy some cars, you are not on the list. Thats a nice: sorry we dont want you for this car. So it make absolut no sense to change dealer. If they find this out, you get on the black list.

The production cost of this special 488 aren't much different than the 488 standard (just some carbon fiber more, 10k is more or less the industrial cost of that). The selling price increase will be much more than 10k, so they will prefer to sell the "speciale" than the standard: This is economy and logic. Why are you all so worried about the possibility to have one? Last year they sold 8400 cars, so they will build at least 2 k of those 488 special each year: Any doubt about that?

Maybe as Sushistar said, the dealer doesn't want the customer for this car (although it is just a slightly tunned 488 GTB). Maybe the dealer thinks Ferrari already has enough existing clients to support the brand and doesn't need any new customers coming from other brands.

I understand from the slides from the dealer meeting in Maranello that having owned a 488 GTB is a minimum criteria to have access to the 488 VS, isn't it?

Yes at minimum but most folks who'll get one will have met more criteria than that - IMO

A minimum if u don't or haven't owned anything else of significance. Ie if you have super cars or other LE and don't sell I'm sure you wld get a 488 gto slot.

Yes if you have no history today you might not get onto the list but I'll bet that in a year or two when the fuss dies down all these 'rules' will be forgotten by dealers in preference to that of €€€€€€€€€ to sell their allocations and you'll still be looking at an almost identical timeframe for delivery ie sometime during late 2019 or 2020 just before the 488 replacement arrives
