When you do it all your life there's nothing fun about it. Just "business as usual"...

    Great thread!

....and I'm kinda in the same boat. .

    I have a 91 Ferrari Testarossa and a 06 Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster...both daily drivers.

Before the Murcielago Roadster, I had a Diablo VT Roadster that was also a daily. When I added the Diablo, it was the best balance of open top, mechanical, raw, gated shift and fast. I loved it so much, I put 72k miles on it and never drove the Testarossa again. The Testarossa just became a beautiful piece of artwork to admire.
When my Diablo VT Roadster was destroyed in an accident, I went to the Murcielago Roadster . It's super fast with 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and 585hp. With the paddle shift, it's the most efficient and fastest shifting I've ever experienced...and the most boring thing ever!

At a red light on a 55 limit road, I hit the accelerator, pull the paddle once and I'm already beyond the speed limit...borrrring. I miss the gated shift and viseral feeling of an analog car.
So, after literally not touching my Testarossa for 5 years, I had a major service done and put it back on the road.
Wow! It sure is slow but running to redline in every gear, getting the shift right and dealing the the clunky "no forgiveness " gear box, heavy clutch and manual steering is wonderful.....absolutely wonderful! This car just likes to rev and rev.

I want to go to an Aventador roadster but after testing one, it's so electronic feeling and soft. It sure is fast though. So fast that I was at redline before my eyes could tell my brain to tell my fingers to pull the paddle. After 10 minutes, it was as boring as my Murcielago Roadster. While I love the design....no make that gaga over the design, I felt disappointed after the 30 minutes test drive.

As for maintenance, the major cost me about $12k with a few extras. I just read a thread on a California dct solenoid repair for $8k alone...just the solenoid alone! So, the whole belt service isn't so expensive compared to the modern electronic failures. Maintenance services on my Lamborghini...don't ask lol

I find myself now wanting to go backwards for the enjoyment of the car...not the speed. I eeally don't know what to do and what car to go to.
I've been toying with the idea of a LP640 Roadster and having a stick shift conversion done....still thinking.

Lmao - that's so true. In countries like Holland and Germany, only Grandma and Grandpa drive autos. That's actually not a joke. I grew up driving manuals and if you get your drivers license here in an auto, you have to have a 'special' tag on your licence.

I also agree 100% on Porsche GTS. Probably my fav car of all - manual is best [emoji6]

I stopped with Ferrari sports cars at a 430 spider and 550, both nearly 500hp and the last step before electronics completely took over. I think the modern cars are amazing technical achievements but where I live there is no way to use them on the street. Pushing either of my cars hard on the street I never feel like I need more power.

Get yourself a 996 GT3 RS its the car that taught me to drive again, in fact when I drive the 458 I can now drive it even faster.

The 996 GT3 Rs has just the right amount of power and handles like a dream, the razor sharp steering is on another level to. Great car.

    Cheers

I absolutely love the F355. Power/weight/gearing/sound is excellent but would not meet most expectations for modern amenities as it has no traction control or navigation system, cup holders, power seats (or a bunch of other crap I don't want).

As mentioned, 360 would be similar but slightly less maintenance cost. Plus you can fit your golf clubs behind the front seats. 996/997 GT3 I think is an awesome ride but probably not as enjoyable on the street as a 355/360 as it has longer gearing (so does the GT4).

I've had a 456M, and I currently have a 308 GTSi and a 360 Modena manual. The 308 doesn't do it for me, performance wise, but it is a ton of fun. You can toss it around and rev it up at speeds that won't get you arrested. I'll eventually sell it when the market warms up, though, but I plan to keep the 360 stick for the rest of my life. It is the sweet spot for me. I'd only sell it if Ferrari reintroduced a V6 Dino.

Also, one member here who has had both 360 and 430 manuals said the power band of the 430 isn't as good as the 360 for a stick.

I like the FIAT Abarth idea, actually. My first Italian car was an X1/9 and it was a blast on curvy country roads.

I run a 2015 Cayman GTS stick for my street car. Great sound, fast enough but you still feel like you are driving the car. Last of the flat 6 normally aspirated Caymans.

I had one and sold it after 2 months. It was very punishing in the city but not much can match its engagement when pushed.

The 430 is significantly more powerful all along the rev range. Thus I find this statement a bit odd.
Ferrari doing a V6 is doubtful at best. Keep in mind that the original Dino wasn't deemed worthy of the Ferrari badge...

It is indeed an interesting and tricky matter.

I wouldn't say the 488 is too fast, because a car can never be too fast for me. Only too slow!

That said, the 488's power is such that you don't explore even half of its potential off the racetrack, so it is a waste. But not uncomfortable or anything.

    Kind regards,

    Nuno.

I have to agree with this and I previously owned a 991tts heavily modded which I tracked regularly. That car was sooooo fast but I don't know how it compares to a 488. I had it to 10.5 @ 137 in the 1/4 mile just before I traded it and it could hit 142 on the grandstand stretch of COTA. I had it to 161 on the back straight at COTA but it was a hot day. The car was most fun going fast but it was fun around town because of how fast it was 0-60 (2.65s).

I traded it last March for my Cali T HS which sounds better, drives better, looks better and is very fast in it's own right. I thought the PDK shifted well on the 991tts compared to the F10 M5 I had previously owned but the shifting in the HS is even better and there isn't any turbo lag. The 991tts had some turbo lag on the lower end but none higher up. The Cali T has no turbo lag that I have noticed. I still have yet to get it over 110 though.

I guess I am in the minority where there is never enough HP. My daily driver is a 840hp Dodge Challenger Demon. There are plenty of empty on ramps and highways to wring any car out for fun.

Can’t wait for the next step up!

I have straight, low mile 964 that Singer wants to begin "restoring". A $425k mistake? I'm unsure. But I do love them!

I have two friends who have owned 360's, then 430's. I have asked them how they liked their 430's and both of them told me to keep my 360.

I'm surprised with that, the 360 had no torque. 430 same car with great torque and no belts!

Always wanted a 360 and then I drove one and was so underwhelmed. The 458 is the sweet spot.

Lucky enough to have a Speciale but just bought back from ferrari a very high spec F430 (now have to manage x2), and agree, 458 really is the sweet spot, 458 Speciale simply mind blowing almost too special and perfect, but I always loved the lines, sound and kick in the back last of the real f1 gear boxes of the F430 not to mention some edgy seat of the pants handling on thinner than 458 tires. 488 is brutally fast and amazingly accomplished car, and I have had a lot of fun in these, they are really.....really quick on track (correction anywhere) so much torque (not a typo).....all good cars ...love the thread nobody wrong here. Simply enjoy...choose your weapon

I love my 488 Spider. On the street, there is no way to stay hard on the throttle for more than 2-3 seconds. But the real fun of the car is twisty roads on a nice day with the top down. The flat torque curve above 3000 rpm or so makes it easy to drive the car smoothly and quickly in and out of any turn.

You don't have any highways? There are plenty of times I am on a 3 lane highway with no other traffic and I can stand on it for way more than 3 seconds. Just have to find the right time of day.
