If you are correct why all the headaches with the allocations and making dealers submit lists of people who meet certain criteria. Just give the dealers their allocations and finished.

I actually think Ferrari are being incredibly clever and are truly working to understand their customer base and maximise the returns from their base. True 1:1 marketing and personalisation. Creation of "micro segments" within segments and providing products to suit. This is the way forward to keep the brand relevant and special.

Anyone in the UK got confirmed allocation from their dealer yet? Story I am getting is that list has been submitted to Ferrari a week ago with proposed customers and dealer is still awaiting feedback.... does this ring true with what others are hearing or..???

In the UK, owning a 488 GTB on its own is not enough for this first release.

If you are talking of the first round of the allocations, then you are 100% correct. But there won't be just one round. This is not a limited production car, correct? So can you explain me why ALL the allocations are completed if you don't even know how many cars will be produced?

Although the GTB is not an LE car in the traditional sense. it is my understanding that the production run itself of the VS will be less than what has been considered standard in the past for a "special". My allocation here in the U.S. was confirmed more than 2 weeks ago.

Typically a dealer receives their up front allocations and those have all been received by the U.S. dealers from what I understand. Once production nears it's end, additional cars tend to be released. Case in point is my Tdf. I was no where close to getting one when the car was released. I wasn't invited to the preview either. But as production of the Tdf crept along, my dealer's allocation of 3 cars was expanded to include an additional car. When this allocation came in, my dealer placed my name in the hat for this 4th car and I was approved almost a year after the introduction. So.....for those interested in this 488 VS - don't give up hope.

Chimes perfectly. I was told there was a Thursday/Friday meeting at the Factory, certainly with for dealer, to decide the next allocation.

I think that won't be far off if you allow for the Apertas.

I’ve heard nothing concrete as yet, other than there was a meeting on Thursday regarding the UK allocations.

At our local FCA meeting yesterday, the sales manager of Ferrari of SA mentioned it is time to get your $50K deposits in if you want a chance at the 488 "special edition."

Thing is when they were building the Special and Apertas they were still building the standard coupe and spider as well
Everyone is now saying that there will be no more 488 coupe or spiders - they will only build the VS and VS Aperta from Q4, so numbers could be huge

4k is like half the annual total production. id be surprised if its that many. i wld have guessed 2500 total for all SE variants. at 4k there are no lists - anyone who wants one will get one.

I'm assuming about 2,500 coupes and the rest in Apertas. Yup could well be right, which is why I am relaxed about an allocation and in fact I think this is very clever marketing after it all initially went wrong with the Speciale. Make it appear you wont get one and you want it even more, so I imagine there will be batches released.

Had a phone from my UK stealer, nope your not having one, despite giving them £20k 2 years ago as a deposit and buying a 488 spider that I haven't even received yet , don't forget the 430 Scud and 458 Speciale I bought from the same dealer, 7 years if loyalty lost..........

Then perhaps it is a more limited edition than some here expect.

That's weird. A UK friend of mine had a 458 followed by a Speciale and then an F12 which he sold on and yet he has been allocated one. Bizarre.
