Going back to post #2930, it seems the duration of ownership is indeed considered (as "having bought one VS and kept for more than 2 years" or "having bought a 488 GTB and kept it for more than 1 year").

The list which is sent by factory the each dealer is made by a software according to some automated rules/criterias.
This is more like a marketing suggestion list, in other words a guide to each dealer to see more or less who could get the VS. If someone appear on the list doesnt mean at all that he would have the car 100% guaranteed, because after all the process all names have to be sent back to each regional ferrari/factory to be totally approved.

In a lot of cases and in different markets, some names have not been appeared on this list. The case of some Laferrari owners with an extensive collection and they didnt appear. They will get the car? Of course.

And about a second round of production at least till today this will not happen, as other said maybe this could change depending on the demand in the future, but is very unlikely. As reference in some markets dealers received their allocations but with the instruction that some of them will be for this year and the others for next year an so.

My first hand experience: At the end the dealer says who will get the cars and who don´t. Minimum half of the dealers are playing those games with other models and so on. Would i do it, if i would be a dealer? Yes. I would. Not gross but with a fine tact... They are there for the money. And as long a service station / software is around 30.000€ each... ...

i guess F will just interrupt in 1-10% of the allocations from the dealer. positiv or also negativ for the final client.

But how to get an earlier delivery? I would like to get a 2018 - but my dealer told me he believe that i should be prepared for 2019.
He told me stories about month long delayed Tdf, 812, etc.

How it works in the system/CRM/modis?
Someone can see already allocated 488VS? I guess not.

That is my understanding also; just had lunch today with my dealer following my invitation to the Feb 20th preview.

Is there a bit of hype/ marketing strategy from Ferrari to create the buzz about this car and do the F40 trick in the end ? Maybe. If you are turned down today, it may not be definitive but can’t be sure.
On Feb 20th, the list of attendees seems a bit wider than those vetted for a car; all LaF clients, Corse Clienti are invited also even if they have not indicated an interest for the VS as there will be the Aperta & a LE version following....and maybe a backdoor entry for another round of regular VS. Only Sergio knows but they will have cars to sell in the future and don’t need to upset their top clients (at least it was my dealer strategy)

Is the demand for the car strong enough to justify some kind of criteria today from the factory and the dealer ? Yes; mine will get 30 cars and have had 100+ demands from serious potential buyers. Seems fair to reward long term clients with a certain profile versus day 2 flippers. Is this the definitive and final number of cars they will get ? Dealers don’t have the answer to that question. The size of round 1 allocation was based on targets achieved for the 488 coupe & spider.

Is this process usual ? Not at all...despite being a top seller in Europe, my dealer has even been denied the right to order a demo car for themselves (like they could for the 458 Speciale); every car allocated has to be vetted by the factory. This process seems to cause some headache to dealers because for LaFerrari, a price tag of 1mm+ does some kind of automatic selection by the wallet....Here, the demand is so strong from their « normal » clients that they are walking on eggs and are subject to tremendous pressure/demands. The TDF was apparently easier for them to manage given numbers involved.
Btw, clients appearing on multiple dealers list (if they can..) hoping to increase their chances are automatically removed by the factory.
Factory visits have been stopped for pretty much all of February indicating that the VS is right now on production line for the media presentation/car show in Geneva.

Most of the people who buy these cars do not visit car forums, watch instagram, etc. Many will find out about it based on the dealer calling them, telling them about it and offering one of them.

In my buying history with this particular dealer, I am way, way down on the totem pole relative to other customers they have. (note: sometimes buying history doesn't matter if you are the type of person who they want as a customer or they want to bring you into the fold (i.e, they know that you know how to play/stay within the system they have developed)). The first TDF to be delivered from the other dealer in our city backed out of the purchase. They gave me the first right to buy it (came with FF and high spec Cali T). Customers who had 10+ years of buying experience didn't even know about it and it wasn't even offered to them.

I told my sales guy that I was kind of surprised that he called me (based on the hype i'm seeing on these forums; I would've thought that all the cars would have been spoken for). However, I do know that the dealers have their own criteria of who they want to offer it too. As an example; customer backs out of 488 purchase and they call around only specific customers to see if they want it). If a random person or a different type of customer calls them then they will probably be told that they have no unsold car.

You can sort of tell in this thread and on these forums which people have been buying cars from dealers for some time. Their reaction or knowledge of how this stuff works is much different then thn people who are just getting into buying these cars.

Loads more people are invited to the cocktail party than supply, a small UK dealer may get 15 cars, cant have much of a launch with 15 punters.

buy and hold is not necessarily the ideal customer. buy, consign shortly thereafter with the dealer and go into the next car is the more ideal customer.

Worst ones in the eyes of dealers are the buy and sell through different or non ferrari dealer shortly after purchase.

did you ask for a 488 VS?
if not, you might be eligible but they are not planning on upsetting the cars and call all 488 owners just in case they want one.
