I've been considering swapping out the heavy glass in the engine cover to plastic, and wondered what' needs doing? Obviously purchase of the lexan.... What about removing the original glass? Also I see the CS cars have cross braces.

Any info would be appreciated especially if someone's done this already.

I just bought an entire complete Challenge Stradale deck lid from Eurospares and fit that to my 360. It was much easier to do it that way and fairly cost effective. And it certainly saved a ton of weight.

I still have the old 360/CS deck lid with a CS rear lip on it and while it looks perfect, the glass makes it heavy.

Anyone know what the weight difference is between the glass hatch and the lexan one?

I too have interest in doing this but was thinking of having such a ”window” manufactured with air louvres á la F40 style...

Now THAT would be something special...

Of course the defroster function would have to be set aside though which will affect winter driving ;)

From Sterling to USD it seems about right.
Almost cheap I would say - especially if it includes both hood and glass.
Not sure it’s possible to order one though..?

That and you have to ship it. Weight isn't as much problem as size and potential for damage.

yeah, but that price might include VAT, which might not be charged in you export it. There might be import duties. Not sure how all that works. Regardless, I'm very surprised its not 3x that price.

I highly doubt it is that cheap. They charged me close to 3x that for a [used complete CS hatch. Maybe someone brave can call and see what the deal is. I highly doubt that's really what it is.

It's without glass (lexan). The glass is on a separate page.

I made a couple of calls. It's not even that. It's the bare unpainted aluminum skin only. Not only no lexan but none of the pieces needed to assemble it into anything usable.

I'm going off the idea... buying a 2nd hand engine lid would cost approx £1200. Then £400 for the lexan plus painting would be around £2000 for assumed weight saving of 5kg. That assumption is that lexan is half the weight of glass and 4mm glass weighs 10kg per metre sq. which is nearly the area of glass on the lid.

Yes you are probably right in your assumption.

But a lexan glass made to look like F40 style would be an awsome upgrade: Weight saving AND engine bay heat reduction

I'll say this: Seeing out of the back of my F40 through the rear view mirror with all of the vents isn't the easiest thing, granted there is a big cross bar in the way. I would not want to have those vents all over the back of the 360, plus I don't think that it goes with the design. The 360 has a very smooth design whereas the F40 is full of scoops, vents, wings, etc. and it just works.

That said, there is a rear lexan for the challenge cars that has one small vent in it and that might be what you're looking for.

Well, kind of. Here's the most complete answer:

I have an entire CS deck lid complete with the lexan, carbon supports, and everything. That is on my car and not for sale (I think it I did it last year or the year before). However, I have a 360 deck lid that has the CS lip on it that is for sale. The ad for that is here: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/challenge-stradale-rear-decklid-for-360.551548/

I'll try to post pics of the car with the CS engine lid so you can compare to the old one that’s for sale. The lip is identical. Ignore the stripes in the one. They were on for a very short time.

At this point my best offer is $2k plus shipping. I don't think that $5k is going to happen.
