did it ever occur to anyone that the 488 GTO could possibly have a 9000RPM redline?? Maybe Ferrari will figure out how to get the last 1000rpms out of the engine. That would be insane for a Turbo engine. Wonder what the redline is on the 488 Challenge cars.

Oh and one other thing......I don't think the 488 needs virtual short wheel base since its a mid engine unlike the 911 rear engine bias design.

No power loss, on the contrary there is a gain: the new V6 has a terrific power. I know the figure, and it's huge.

Its useless in turbo cara to have power max at very high revs of max torque is at mid low revs, non sense to get 9000 rpm, sound is not that different and performances may be lowered...better to have a good torque and power curve across the useful range. They are not constrained to high revs as the NA engines. Challenge car has the same 8000 rpm limit of the road car.

Clearly you work for Ferrari. Anyway, I think to a f1 derived 3.2 v6 engine

They can surely implement it on 488 VS if they want, it's not a much intrusive technology

We cannot talk in Italian here, sorry.

Nicola Materazzi, the F40 father, in 1987 developed a 2 liters V8 twin turbo with 400 hp @9k RPM. Today that kind of engine can go much over that specific power. And the new Ferrari V6 does.

Gt3 drivers shift not above 7000 rpm, to avoid the severe drop in both torque and power curve Beyond that limit. Also in 458 gt2 max revs advised For shifting are 7000 rpm

Thanks For the very intersting insights, surely 9000 rpm was and still is a lot for a TC engine, maybe they will follow a similar route, smaller displacement, 6 cylinder and faster revolutions to get more power, the important thing is that we have masterpieces to admire before all the world turns to sad full electric supremacy. Will this new v6 model come before 2020? My two cents are on 2020 Geneva or Paris

Sounds like Ferrari has some very interesting things coming. The nearest of which is the 488 VS! I predict excitement! :)

Exciting indeed but also a problem. We will see quite a few limited runs of cars based on specific platforms. As has been pointed out earlier this may lead to people being offered cars they don’t actually want. The thing is do you reject the offer and hope to cherry pick the car(s) you want? Interesting times ahead - I know the path I want to take but I suspect there may be the odd deviation!!!

Hopefully it will be cleverly packaged, beyond just being shorter, for less weight and better aero.

So is it 3/4 of the V8 or 1/2 of the V12? Either would retain commonality with existing engines for cost containment, but a 65 degree V6 would be exclusive to Ferrari (relative to Alfa and Maserati) and in keeping with some of their historical V6s.

But not a success in F12 TDF. Much better in 812s as predicted.

You might want to remember the 488 dyno charts posted here show the stock 488 giving up before 7500 rpm. You'd be looking at adding 1600 rpm to get 9K on the VS.

488 Piero. Maybe family reserved for hypercar but also sounds too much like Fiero,
