458 Rattling engine noise at idle

    New to Ferrari cars, so I'm not sure what I'm about to (attempt to), describe is considered normal.

    I have a fully services low mileage 2013 exc cond 458. When I start is and let it idle, from a cold or warm engine, there is an intermittent rattling sound. It is a lower pitch sound, like a ratting chain/belt. There is no high pitch or squeeking noise.

    The rattling goes for about 5 seconds, then disappears, then about 10 seconds later, does it again.

    Took it to a Ferrari dealer who said it was 'normal. I want to avoid getting stuck with engine work after the factory warranty runs out.

    I have had a 997 Porsche which had a very faint ticking sound. This is actually a normal engine sound for those cars.

    If anyone with experience knows about the 458 sound Id appreciate the input. The fact that its intermittent worries me.

    I’ve also noticed a similar noise.
    It might guy be something as minor as some bracket bolts that need tightening.

    Also there can be rattles from the exhaust valves and hydraulic noise from fluid pumping- all normal sounds

    How many miles for you have?
    Why not buy the extended warranty?

    The car has 6000 miles on it. It's under warranty but when I addressed it with the dealer they dismissed it quite quickly - thought I'd ask on this forum.

    I'll try and use a mic in the engine bay - Iphone recorder gets overloaded by the engine noise even at idle.

    It’s absolutely normal. I had the same issue with my 458 Spider. Had it checked out - it’s the exhaust baffles. It’s intermittent and I too was concerned when I first heard it. Welcome to Ferrari!

    Ok the only update is that I mentioned the baffle thing to the dealer and he agreed it could be the noise. I don't live near a dealership.
    He initially thought I meant the injector noise at idle. I explained it was a lower tone, intermittent flapping noise.

    They'll check it out at next service a few months away. I'll post if any result.
