not worth it. buy something you will drive more. unless you like looking at it.
I live in the uk and the weather is bad for 6 months. I got a 458 in October and have only done 30 miles in it. Ive owned v8 Mercedes and also have a vantage v12s. I get pleasure just looking at my ferrari and that I am lucky enough to own one. All I can say is I wasted years thinking about getting a Ferrari. My wife wanted me to get an Aston (for looks) and as soon as I got the Ferrari and she drove it, Aston is relegated. They are that good. Do it!
Same boat here. I live in Minnesota. I bought my Ferrari knowing full well it would sit half the year, and I am perfectly fine with that. I only have it insured comprehensive during the winter. The worst part is that I've owned the car since the end of December, and have NEVER driven it. This is turning into a LONG winter..... It is going to be a h*ll of a spring, summer and fall, though!!! (Oh, and by the way, I would LOVE to move away from here. They just pay me too much to stay.) Kevin
Ok I DID IT!....Bought the 460 Spider!!!! Pictures coming in a new thread. Thanks for all the great feedback guys! My wallet just got helluva lot lighter! More debt, too........but you know what?......Yes, life is too frickin' short! Who knows what tomorrow may bring? My dad passed away when he was only 49 and he was a car guy who never got to own the cars he dreamed about. I'm already 50 and a bit worried about the future. Some of my friends are sick and some have even passed away. I don't know when the "perfect" time will come to own a Ferrari. ....Now, I have to convince the wife I did the "right" thing.
Owning a mass-produced Ferrari is rarely (if ever) a financially "right thing" to do. So it has nothing to do with that beyond ensuring you have enough money that the funds used/borrowed/repaid on the Ferrari don't come at the expense of adequately providing for family needs. (said shorter - you can easily afford it). No...its not something that is justified...its a wish or passion or dream fulfilled. Whether you can drive it 6 months or 12 months, shouldn't matter (because its not a practical decision). Congrats and enjoy!
Congratulations and you did do the right thing! I purchased my F430 without telling my wife. For about 6 months she did not acknowledge the car, then one day while her parents were over, my in-laws wanted to take pictures with the car. I have full acknowledgement now and acceptance. Your wife is going to love it and all the fringe benefits that come with it.
I justify it the same way I justify owning a summer cottage, boat, jet ski and swimming pool...summers are short, I like to get the most out of every day. But if you’re trying to rationalize a Ferrari from a practical point of view, it’s the wrong car for you. Buy a Honda. After all, there’s no reason to spend a penny more for something when all anyone *needs* is to get from A to B.
Exactly! They are jealous. What you will find is that your 'friends' (and I use that term loosely), want you to do well...... just not better than them. And they will do their best to drag you down. If this is your dream, sign the paperwork and put it in the garage. I would move the hell out of the north. I live in AZ and drive 12 months/year.
No one ever said on their deathbed “gee I’m glad I took my friends advice and never bought that Ferrari”
Welcome to ferrari life lol. I am still new at it also but was one of my best decisions I made.and no I didn't ask for permission lol. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Like everyone said - always go for your dreams. Your life, do whatever makes you happy. Your friends and other people will always have an opinion. But its your life and your money. Do what makes your happy. Never live your life trying to please other people. Life is too short to just be wishing and dreaming. Make your dreams come true. I saw your other thread. Congrats! You will be like us, going down to the garage at night before you go to bed and admire that beautiful machine sitting there waiting to be driven by you, that you can proudly says its yours. A dream car come true. Mine is a dream car come true. My 2nd Ferrari. We earned it and we deserve it. Now be prepared for people giving you thumbs up, admiring your beautiful car every time you drive it. Your face will hurt from always smiling each time you drive. Here's me and my wife when I purchased my car at the dealership. All smiles! Kindly post some photos of yours. Dan Image Unavailable, Please Login
Well I need my wife's permission, or at least I better tell her. She's still pissed at me for buying my new 3/4 ton truck 4 years ago, yet agrees we needed a new tuck at the time. It helped in my case that I rented a Ferrari on a vacation a couple of years ago and didn't tell her. She was mad for about 3 blocks and got over it.
If i asked my friends about getting the Ferrari most of them would have said no. The reason is that they believe it´s incredibly more expensive to run then an AMG or an M-car and that an oil change costs like $3000. It´s just lack of knowledge really. I also drive my car for 6 months and yes it´s a pain but that´s the way it is. I can deregister the car for the winter and pay like $10 a month for garage insurance. I´m also keeping the miles down fairly. I´m still going to add lots of miles in the summer but that would double up if i drove the car for the whole year.
get a coupe, i just drove mine in the snow and have been taking it out every other 50 degree day. its perfectly fine
Get new friends. Won't be hard with the new Ferrari lol Sent from my SM-N950U using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Bought my first Ferrari back in January, 458 spider. Have to agree with many comments especially it's not your average a to b car. So far mine has only every been an a to a car, when She comes out it's not been to go somewhere but rather to just drive...... from home to home hopefully via some exciting roads. The funny part is I tend to have to drive the route twice as I have two boys and only one passenger seat. Living in the UK I have to keep a slight eye on the weather but so far the temptation has been to take her out at the weekend when there's no recent salt on the road or rain in the air. Most importantly, stop thinking about the amount of snow and start worrying about the number of tunnels nearby. Once you've been through one of these with the gas on its like a drug that you can't get enough of. Congrats on the purchase I'm sure you'll love it. Say hello to the teenage boy inside you... I have bought my Maranello more than 2 years ago and still have not told the wife (but she knows about the 360). I guess the longer you wait the harder it gets to confess... I am glad to see that am I not alone in this "buying approach". Maybe we should start a new thread like "How confess to my wife about my new Ferrari purchase" Martin
