I have a 998R I bought new, raced once (2 wins...) then put into street trim.
1,778 miles indicated, but really probably more like 2,400 because during the race weekend and occasional track day I ran it on slicks with different wheels and no speedo drive.
Bruce Meyer at BCM Ducati in NH made a few modifications to it to increase power when it was brand new. Ported, cam, larger exhaust, remapped. It made 154hp at the wheel, up from 134 at the crank.
It's in beautiful shape and has never been down.

Glad you found your 996R which apparently is a rare beast.
Why no love for the 999R ? Too many made ?

    Well, a couple of things:

    1) I actually don't really care how many of them they've made; a great bike is a great bike regardless of how many they've made.

    2) There's not "no love" for the 999R. I didn't post a wanted ad for one since I already have the best version of it: 2006 999R Xerox #69. I was looking for the 996R and 998R because I was having a hard time tracking down exceptional versions of those. Now I have both of those too.

It's an incredible bike and one of the best riding superbikes ever. The 2006 999R has all kinds of updates - the later swingarm, titanium valve collets, different heads and narrow stem titanium valves, magnesium head covers, etc. that make it like a completely different bike to the early version. Incidentally, there are only 319 of the Xerox R bikes made so I guess if you want to talk rarity, I guess that version is pretty rare.

    FWIW, I have a 1993 888 SP5, 1998 916 SPS, 2001 996R, 2002 998R, 2006 999R Xerox, 2008 1098R, 2014 1199 Superleggera. I like having and riding all of the homologation versions. They're truly exceptional.

    Sherpa,
Great photos of that special 999r, thanks for sharing.
I personally find the 999 does not have as "sensual" and "pure" lines as the previous 916 generation but still has a great character on its own, feels to me like kind of an "hybrid" of the older classic gen mixed with some more "aggressive" / sharper / "techno" race vibes... unique beast for sure.
Btw was it the last model with the classic trellis / tube frame?

It actually rides a lot like a 998 but with a slightly different position. It has a lot of the same DNA and you can clearly feel it.

The last of the Ducati superbikes with the full trellis frame is the 1098/1198. Incidentally, I think that the 1098R is the last of the R bikes where you can just bolt on the Corse parts. It's that close to the F and RS race bikes.

    Hey guys,
Now that Ryan has found the perfect 998R and 996R, I thought I'd resurrect this thread.
I'm in the market for a 996R. Preferably stock and the lower mileage the better, but I'm not picky.
Let me know if you come across any leads. Ryan, your pair is awesome!!
