Hi Aussie FerrariChat members. I am new to this site and am looking to buy my first Ferrari. I apologise in advance if this question has been done over and over but I couldn’t find a recent Australian specific thread on this topic.
I am deciding between a 360 Spider gated manual which in good condition seems to be going around $150kAUD in Rosso Corsa with beige or black interior OR F430 spider F1 which I hope to pick up for around $230kAUD, same colour combo or would take Nero.
At first I was adamant on getting a manual car due to the driving experience and future value but that would limit me to a 360 as the manual F430s are in the $400k mark. I would only use this as a weekend car. I prefer the looks and improved overall features and performance of the F430 though I’m unsure about the F1 transmission over a manual.
    My question to fellow members
    1. Overall experience as a first Ferrari which of the 2 options mentioned would you choose.
    2. Of the 2 choices mentioned where do you feel the prices are atm. Have they bottomed out yet and which do you think will have greater value in 5-10 years.
    3. Here is Aus who is the best insurance to go with.
    4. There is an F430 currently for sale at Sydney Maserati and Ferrari. Does this seem like good value??

    Thanks in advance guys. Cheers

Everything about the 430 is better than on a 360, although many prefer the looks of the 360. The F1 gearbox on the 430 is as good as the single clutch gearboxes get. If the budget allows, I'd go for the 430 hands down. No cam belt changes either!

Also, and you may not think this is important now, but it will be, with a 430 when you go to sell it, you won't be competing with the cheap non aussie spec cars of which a heap came in with 360s.

    Not sure about prices.

    Shannons for insurance.

Thanks for the reply Aircon. I guess I’m comparing the F1 to my Mercedes AMG paddle shift which is an auto with manual shift but I believe it’s quite different to this. Appreciate your input

Very different. Just drive one. You'll either hate it or love it.

The 360 is more of a raw drive compared to the 430 so it depends what you are looking for in your first F car. I personally prefer the 360 to the 430 to drive because of its rawness. The F1 in the 360 can be changed out of site by fitting a CS TCU. As PP says the 430 will be less maintanence with the timing chains But the early 430s had header issues so beware. I have the C63 AMG and the shifters on that are not even close to an F car F1 system. It is literally chalk and cheese to compare them. Good luck with your search and I guarantee you will love every minute of the journey.....There is some great info on this site but take the Aussie section with a pinch of salt because there is a fair amount of BS flying around.....If you are into male nurses and tracksuit pants you will fit in well here especially if you relocate to QLD........:)

Hi Jeffro I have a F1 360 Spider vcool car great presence in person especially with the top down (feels like an old school racing car, great view)the motors are excellent, plenty of power for the road and the F1 gearbox on mine feels a bit sluggish at low speeds but it’s fine don’t forget it’s got a clutch and at high acceleration it bumps into gear quite aggressively but as the boys have mentioned it’s a raw system for a car designed to go fast well with little compromise. Please make shure you get the checklist off Aldous Voice website DONT rely on completely ppi check they Will and Do miss stuff cheers and good luck (check synchro gearbox wear click clack when changing down gears 4/3.)good luck[emoji237][emoji237][emoji237][emoji237][emoji237]

seriously, buy the best car you can afford, don't worry about F1 vs manual. Condition, history and the way it's been treated are much more important.

e.g. you wouldn't buy a manual 430 that had been a track driving school car (there's one out there)

Go for a 430 as a first time owner. Almost 500bhp, handling electronics will make you look like an ex F1 driver and the reliability is bulletproof. As a first time owner, I was looking for nothing short of a manual 360. UNTIL I drove the 430 F1. As aircon said, it’s the final and best iteration of that system. Don’t be scared of the dreaded ‘20k Klm clutch replacement’ it’s bollocks. Mines got 77k Klms now, with 28% still to go.

And the headers are stuff all of a problem. Stump up for some Fabspeed or IPE headers and replace the stock ones, cracked or not. You’ll LOVE the sound.

    This. ^^^

Nothing against 360s but if you can afford a 430 it seems the obvious choice.
