I sold mine after six months as it was too GT for me. I greatly prefer the 675 over the 720 and still have both a coupe and spider 675. I lost five thousand plus commission. Since I did not love the car, I felt getting out sooner than later was the prudent decision. The 720 is not a car that will appreciate.

The same is not necessarily true of the 488. While I have sold both my coupe and spider (in anticipation of the Pista), I never felt those cars were too GT. They were great all around cars. As at home on the track as in the commute to the ballgame. They were also a go to car for car events both driving and just showing. With the 720, the looks never grabbed me. Even when displaying my collection, I found myself passing over the 720 with little more than saying it’s the latest McLaren offering.

There is always exceptions... hence the "generally". my neighbor bought 458 and 488 brand new from a dealer 400 miles away when we have two dealers within 50 miles of our residence.

In reference to depreciation , Ferrari dealer, Lambo dealer even McLaren themselves say used 720 r dropping. He figured loose 10k now or 20-25 In another 5 months. But you only loose when u sell it. So to each there own.

He does like that too. I assume that increases his advertising revenue. But I do believe in his view, the sole criterian by which a car is judged is by how fast it runs the 1/4 mile.

    A 720 in a few years @ 200K would be very tempting.....

I dont know where it will end up in 2 years but I can tell you it is one heck of a car. Put the Ferrari bias aside - the 720 does everything so well which is the knock on it. A car you can daily but also outperform the track versions of its competitors. Hyper car looks and performance.

Regarding depreciation, it will always be worth more than a 488. As time moves on people will become more aware of what this car is all about. So if the 488 hits 200k, the 720 will be 240K - you can bet on it.

Isn’t that because the msrp of the 720 is about 50k higher?

Not for the base car but optioned up the 720s ends up higher. Most cap out their 488's at 330K or below, 720s are at least that with options and upwards of $370K. It seems to be a different buyer in some respects.

So my expectation is similar depreciation but perhaps the Mac does better given it is more exclusive, meaning fewer cars made. I really don't care to be honest but it is funny how people pick on one brand vs. another when in fact they aren't that different in this perspective. I still prefer the 720 regardless.

I do not think it outperforms the Performante or GT2RS on track - both of which have significantly less power.
That has been the problem with McLaren for me since the start, they throw in more technology and more power but apparently never get the best of them (although they are improving). The MP4/12C with more power, carbon tub and fancy suspension should have crushed the 458 (and that's what I really expected when it was unveiled) but that did not happen, and the same story has repeated since then (a 675LT is typically not faster on track than a 488 GTB, in spite of being lighter and in theory more focussed).
The 720S needs a lot of additional power to beat a 488 GTB, and for the Pista we will see.

I wouldn't bet your house on it. 720s's Achilles heel is that hideous face - which is not going to age well, along with the fact it's a Mac.

Regarding "hideous face" I agree with Shadowfax, I never liked it. And although I wanted to give this design a chance (as a big McLaren fan), for me it becomes uglier day by day.

I like the back end but agree with the hideous face comment and I’m still unsure about the doors. I owned a 12C and do like Mclaren in general. I agree, however, that Mclaren has build quality issues , is difficult to service in many states and seems to focus on performance over everything else . The Mclaren community also prides itself on drag racing and uses that metric to claim superiority. I love speed and think acceleration is important but it’s not the only important metric. The way a car feels, sounds, looks and engages the driver to me is more important. My friend owns a Mclaren 570s and I recently bought a 991.2 GT3. He consistently argues with me that his Mclaren is way better based on the looks (subjective), dihedral doors and the acceleration being superior. I’ve driven both and think there’s no comparison. The GT3 is so much more fun to drive , sounds better , is built better, has a better transmission, has better build quality, is easier to service and is so much more involving. There’s a reason he was able to get a substantial discount on his car new and I had to look for weeks just to find the right car and pay over sticker to get it. I also believe the GT3 will hold its value better but again he disagrees. To each his own I guess .

It sure can/does outperform both cars depending on the track and other variables but keep in mind it's a the street version which even more j6i impressive. The LT will likely be a good step above.

Your friend is delusional if he seriously thinks his Mac will hold up better than a .2GT3. No comparison...

720's performance game is over with Pista and Performante.... Just imagine the $lide if/when Mac fixes the face ....or maybe Mac will try and preserve it by making an even uglier face...a baby senna...something along those lines. Anythings possible..

What do you base your position from? You just make stuff up and run with it? It's not a religious war these are just cars.
