I'm on my 12th Ferrari from the same dealer and just took delivery of my 812 a few weeks ago, but the dealer is telling me Ferrari corporate is asking all regular customers to first buy a GTC4Lusso before they can get an allocation for Pista? Anyone else hearing the same from their dealer?

Congrats on the 812 - I think dealers are milking the very first deliveries for the most they can.
If your not a racing client be prepared to be worked over o_O I got the very first 458 Speciale
delivered at my dealer now he's acting like he can't even get me a Pista

Congrats indeed on the amazing 812. Given the type of client you are (12 F cars, WOW), slightly amazed they even daring to mention this...Maybe a friendly chat with the manager is in order:D
Has been also discussed at length here

According to my dealer it's "Ferrari corporate" who's telling all dealers in private that regular clients need to first buy a GTC4Lusso before getting their Pista allocation...this I'm very skeptical and find it hard to believe coming from corporate.

Enjoy your 812 and wait them out - you’re bound to get later allocation IMO

It’s untrue. The Lusso has been an terribly slow moving car (sales wise :p), so many dealers are desperate to sell them.

Dealers say it’s Ferrari corporate policy since it shifts the blame off of them, but the truth is easy to extract: find someone who has never owned a Lusso that has a Pista allocation. There are many documented cases of that so the corporate policy angle doesn’t hold much water.

Agree! A GTC4Lusso is a different animal than an 812 or a Pista. Personally, I don't find the GTC4Lusso very appealing. Are sales of them that slow?

I was offered a pista at sticker if I purchased a lusso at sticker. I took two days to think about it and decided to proceed, but by then the lussos were sold. Now I’ve been offered a demo lusso at sticker. Silly thing is, I’ll probably take it.

I have had a few dealers tell me that on the pista the dealer, not corp, gets to decide who gets an allocation. However on the numbered aperta, that will likely revert back to Corp.

I agree with you. Dealers have precise sales target by model, including Mazerati's in dual dealerships, and the number of "hot" cars they will get depends on their achievements of those targets. You can't run a Ferrari dealership and sell what you want...you have to sell the minimums of what the factory wants you to sell. No discussion. As "buying a Lusso in order to get a Pista" was not in their initial clusters presented in January, you can assume this is decided at local level to help move a slow selling car and secure the dealers a larger allocation of "hot" cars in the future or an extra "sales bonus". I think this is done and put to rest for the Pista as their allocation was already decided based on their prior sales target/result. Each dealer knows how many Pistas they will get from Ferrari based on what the firm is telling them today...The factory might decide in 6 month time to extend the Pista production run by few weeks/months and then, surprise surprise, some dealers will get a few cars extra but dealers don't know that and it may never happen. When we walk into a Ferrari dealer we often see them as one team, but dealers are agent/entrepreneurs representing a brand they love but with their own pressure, objectives and interests, not always 100% aligned with the brand behind and your needs. Like in any business with a distribution network; as long as we are all aware that is OK. Dealers have different places in the Ferrari food chain and the larger their volume, the stronger their negotiating power and ability to get what they want for whom they want. Having said that, my Pista allocation is not yet 100% confimed but I have been promised an answer by the car show. I have not bought and will not buy a Lusso to get it....

Instead of buying a Lusso to have your Pista allocation, you have two alternatives. First: Wait for the first Pista deliveries and buy it at 100 k over MSRP. You will avoid to lose 100 k on the Lusso resale with just delivery miles, save room in your garage and will continue to act like a successful man and not like a mouse. Second: Wait for next year when your dealer will call you offering a Pista allocation at 5% less than the MSRP

And in almost every thread related to this car since the middle of January !

In fact my impression is all the cars were already allocated a couple of weeks ago so a dealer still using the Lusso story is probably unlikely now to be able to guarantee a Pista in return

Look, what people are hearing regarding the Lusso and the Pista allocation are true, but that is NOT the only way you can get a Pista. It's very simple, if you are VIP enough to your dealer, you will get a Pista allocation without the need to purchase a Lusso. However, if you are not that high up in your dealer's VIP list, then you can guarantee your Pista allocation by purchasing a Lusso. As the original poster stated, he bought 12 cars from his dealer and he was told he needed to buy a Lusso to get a Pista. What this means is that the OP is just not that high up on the food chain. My local dealer, Beverly Hills, has hundreds of clients. They have over 50 clients who have bought more than 20 cars from them in the last 10 years. They won't get 50 Pista allocations, so they need to be selective. It's simple economics.

Will be interesting to see just how many they produce in the end...if it is as rumoured 4000+ then everyman and his dog will be able to get one eventually.

My local dealer told me he had an allocation of 28, with over 150 being requested. Going to be some disappointed people. Not aware aware of the lusso situation but the are trying it on the 812.

Don't understand.People are being asked to order an 812 to get a Pista ?
Sounds strange as 812 is supposed to be sold out in UK unless that particular dealer has some "spare".

Or are you saying they will still get you an 812 if you buy a Lusso ?

    Agreed !
The sooner that potential buyers stop grovelling and "act like a successful man and not like a mouse" the sooner the dealer/Ferrari will stop asking you to jump through hoops for the "honor" of handing them $400K. Life goes on whether you get one or not so try acting like it.

They are saying you can get a 812 quicker if you buy a lusso. I have a 458, I have paid a deposit for a 812 with no date as yet, indicated is 2020/21. If I were to buy a lusso or f12 I could probably get it late 19.

    Hope this clarifies.

Everybody is talking like Lusso is selling very bad, well then just wait a while for half price Lusso.

I can't believe that the LussoV12 is not selling well, it's my favorite car in the stable and I almost daily drive it. There are zero used ones for sale here in Toronto. Guess different markets and probably varying allocation challenges.
