He is definitely like Larry Holmes, but I rate Holmes a lot higher than Ortiz. I don't think Ortiz has what it takes to take Wilder's title, but I hope he gives him the good, hard fight he needs.
I can't say he is over rated, because I haven't heard of anyone rating him highly lol. But I don't think he is anything special. He hasn't fought anyone 'big time', so he is still yet to be tested IMO. Joshua will definitely give him the fight of his life, that's for sure. Parker fought Andy Ruiz for the vacant WBO Heavyweight title around 18 months ago. I watched that fight live and I thought Parker lost that fight on points, but they gave him the win which was a little disappointing. **The fight was in New Zealand.** Parker then looked old and slow fighting Carlos Takam. He dragged that out for 12 rounds, defended his title and won it on points. His performance that night was VERY disappointing. Parker recently defended his title again against Hughie Fury over in the UK. He put on a better performance and won in 12 rounds, but I still don't think he has what it takes to beat AJ. He performance was still average. Parkers corner have stated many times over the last few years I have watched his bouts that Parker has NEVER been dropped in training, sparring or in the ring. He is the only current Heavyweight Champ that has never been dropped before in their life. We will see what happens come March 31st, if AJ doesn't KO him I think he will take it on points and win Parker's WBO Heavyweight title.
I don't know if anyone caught Errol Spence Jr VS Lamont Peterson over the weekend. Errol Spence Jr is another top 10 fighter IMO and he made an easy night of Peterson. Peterson's corner retired him at the end of the 7th round. Spence Jr is 23-0 with 20KO at the moment. After the fight, he called out Keith Thurman. *He has called Thurman out a few times already* Spence Jr destroyed Kell Brook May 2017 to win the IBF Welterweight title. The Welterweight division is smoking hot right now!! Thurman, Spence Jr, Horn and now throw Terence Crawford into among all those champions this division is looking like it's going to give us some great fights this year and into next year. I still believe Crawford is the pick of the bunch and he will beat Jeff Horn for the WBO title in April and then will take everyone on and unify the Welterweight division over the next 18-24 months. Here is a short highlight reel of Spence Jr VS Peterson for those who have not seen or heard of Errol Spence Jr before.
I was very Impressed with Spence last night. I've watch his last 3 fights. He is only getting better and feel he is the pick of the bunch. Crawford is awesome but Spence made it look too easy against Peterson, and Peterson was a STRONG test.
Yep, my mate got me onto Spence Jr around 4 years ago. He absolutely loves the guy and I can see why, he means business and seems like a nice humble guy also. The only thing that concerns me is that he gets hit a little too often. Someone like Crawford who has amazing boxing skills would take advantage of that and make him pay over 12 rounds. If they fought, I reckon we would see the same fight and result that we saw from Mayweather VS Alvarez. Canelo was the BIG puncher, but Floyd had more skill. Floyd took Canelo to boxing school that night. Spence Jr is the BIGGER puncher, but I beleive Crawford would take Spence Jr to boxing school if they ever fought. Crawford has made his last 10 opponents look like amateurs. lol
Very slow in here these days.........................but I will keep the thread going. Over the weekend in the UK, George Groves VS Chris Eubank Jr for the World Boxing Super Series. And they both their titles on the line. Groves WBA Supermiddle weight title against Eubank Jr's IBO Supermiddle weight title. Groves won the fight easily on points. Eubank Jr tried WAY too hard for the KO from round one and didn't display any skill whatsoever which was very unfortunate as he does have some skill. But all good, Groves moves on into the final. **Maybe, he dislocated his left shoulder in the last round apparently**. So we will see what happens. http://www.news.com.au/sport/boxing/george-groves-beats-chris-eubank-jr-in-brutal-british-war/news-story/fef17b4f2414fb87a12b2a78ea3135b5
Across the other side of the world a few hours later, Danny Garcia made his comeback to boxing with a spectacular KO of Brandon Rios. Garcia looked very sharp, as sharp as ever. Rios piled the pressure on, but Garcia was all class and counter punched his onto an easy night until the KO came in the 9th. Garcia was quick to call out Kieth Thurman after the right. Garcia lost to Thurman last year resulting in his first ever loss as a pro and he also handed over his WBC Welterweight title in the process. While he was doing that, Shaun Porter got in the ring and offered to Garcia lol. Was all quite funny. Anywho, Garcia is back and there are going to be some BIG fights over the next 2 years in that division. Again, Spence Jr, Horn, Thurman, Garcia, Crawford, Porter, all excellent fighters that will be aiming to fight each other I am sure. https://www.cbssports.com/boxing/news/danny-garcia-knocks-out-brandon-rios-sends-message-to-welterweight-division/
Eubanks Jr. is a tough kid but he’s a B level fighter. Unfortunately his ego is bigger than his skill set. Garcia will have to wait his turn against Thurman. Keith doesn’t owe Danny anything.
Boy, Got a lot to say about this weekends fight. I'll make it quick and to the point. IMO, I'm a fan of Garcia but I didn't think he looked all that great. Rios was a retired washed up fighter. If Danny fought like that with any other top 5 fighter, the results might have been different. Yes he looked "good" but remember, it was Rios. Porter was a fool. He was promoting himself, That's all. Thurman is OBVOIUSLY ducking Spence (BIG TIME). He wants NO PART of that! The star of the night was definitely the 21 year old 168lb champ Benavidez. He impressed me. Gavril was no slouch! Looking forward to watching him again. I hear Crawford vs Horn is in the making. That is a perfect fight for Crawford. How great would the WW division be with Thurman, Spence and Crawford being Champs. Doesn't get better than that in ANY division. 2018-2019 will be interesting.
Yeah, Eubank Jr is not a top level fighter. But I still believe he had the skill to beat Groves but tried to hard for the KO from Rd 1. If he actually boxed, it may have been a different result for Eubank Jr. Totally agree with you in regards to Garcia VS Thurman II. Garcia has to work his way back up to title contention.
I guess you are right there Armen, Rios is burnt out lol. But Danny still performed well, obviously will have to step it up a notch against fighters in the top 10. Porter was being ******, 100% lol. Thurman would take a beating from Spence Jr and I can't wait to see it. I'd love to see Crawford beat Horn, Spence Jr beat Thurman and then watch a massive showdown between Crawford and Spence Jr later this year or early next year. Wishful thinking for now but......

How could you not be Interested! Also a few other fights on tonight. Andre Dirrell is on the undercard. Kell Brook is Fighting (separate card) Kovalev is Fighting (Separate Card) Also a good UFC PPV card Featuring Cyborg.
Yep, I am VERY lucky as this fight is playing free-to-air on Fox Sports here in Australia from 12 pm to 3 pm. Looking forward to that and those other fights also. I will try and stream those inbetween watching the Wilder/Ortiz card. But will sit on the couch and watch their fight when it comes on. Enjoy lads, I am looking forward to this one, I wanna see if Wilder has what it takes to put King Kong away before he steps into the ring with AJ. That's if he puts Ortiz away of course......
Great HWT fight. Give Wielder props. He hung in there and fought back for the KO. Still not a fan of his. He talks too mythological for me. He is trying to sell himself still. I don't like it. His interviews are VERY Me, Me, Me! My Mind I think it so I have to do it. You can set your mind to do anything, Blah, Blah, Blah... He is so uneducated and tries to speak with class. Ortiz did well. Had his chance. Surprised Dirrell lost. Uzca was a machine. Kovalev did nothing for me, Actually he never has. I like him but never impressed me.
Uzca looked very impressive. He’s going places. I think Dirrell might be finished after this one. Another top talent is Bivol. He handled Barrera very well. And yes props to Wilder for rallying in the 10th. Ortiz had the skill but not the will in this one. Maybe age caught up to him along with Wilder’s power. IMO from here on in the level of competition for Wilder will elevate. If Ortiz was outboxing him, it could be easy work for AJ. That is unless Wilder catches him with that right hammer of his, then all bets are off.
AJ's offense is GREAT and his pressure might trouble Wielder. But, Like Graz said, Wielder did elevate himself after the Ortiz fight. and his right hand can end the show QUICK if it lands. And we all know AJ has been down B4.
Hot off the Press! Canelo tests positive for Clenbuterol, a performance enhancing drug. Oh boy. Now what?
