I recently bought my California love everything about it ! I did however wanted a bit more sound from the exhaust, I managed to find the vacuum line leading to the rear of the car ,(not sure if this has been posted before) and would like to share it for those looking to open up the exhaust flaps in 5 minutes. It’s located under the hood on the passenger side fender look for the line with the red tape, simply unplug the line and cap it.

What exactly does this do? keep it open at low RPMs? Isn't it open as soon as RPMs hit 3k?

This seems a little too easy. Is this definitely the same vacuum line that you would plug if it was done in the back of the car?

I tried it but I really couldn't tell if it worked or not. I expected to hear an immediate and substantial difference. I not so sure about this.

They are open on cold start and close up after the car warms up.

Does anyone know if this line only runs to the rear where it splits to the two exhaust valves?Wondering if it services anything else since it would be a lot more convenient to plug the line up at the engine. Thanks.

I tried this again and I do not hear the exhaust valve opening when I plug the hose.

I think the valve is open until you start the car, then engine vacuum closes the valve, unless you are unhooking the vacuum line while the car is running in which case I’d suspect a stuck exaust valve because you should hear a significant difference in exaust note.

Bud, I just bought a '10 Cali and came across this DIY. Sounds too easy to actually work haha.

So you tried it and it worked for you? I just unplug the vacuum line? does it always have the red tape? Is it possible to unplug the wrong end??

    Thanks!!

I did this recently and it works. Previously, I had plugged the lines under the rear of the car and this has the same effect but with a lot less work. Never got an answer about whether plugging the line at the engine affects anything else downstream but haven’t noticed anything different besides the exhaust tone. Mine had a little piece of red tape on it like the picture. You just disconnect it from the metal insert and plug with a little screw. You don’t have to do anything with the metal insert. Hope you enjoy the new sound!

Do you think something similar will work for the Portofino?

I tried this tip and I can confirm that it is working.
Now everytime I pass by cars in our building's parking their alarms go off without even accelerating.

On the USA Portofino, you can unplug the electrical connectors from the mufflers. This produces a nice and consistent sound without the blatting, but it turns on the check-engine light.
