this is the content i have just written for our Borrani page which will get slightly adjusted, because we are finding out a bit more https://www.borrani.com/ferrari-wheels/365-gt-2-2.html and then this page will get up dated and become more accurate

When the first of the 365 GT 2+ 2 cars came out Ferrari were still fitting 205VR15 Pirelli Cinturato CN72, tyres onto the 7” wide RW3812 which would still be the tyre of choice for these early cars, on that 7” rim. And if it is comfort of ride the 205VR15 Cinturato will always give a lovely ride.

During the production of the 365 GT 2 + 2 Ferrari were moving their cars over to take advantage of the new low profile tyre technology so they moved to a RW 4075 wheel which fitted a 215/70VR15 XWX.

There is an inch (24mm) difference in overall diameter in these tyres, so it is worth considering this when choosing a tyre. If you have an early car and the wheel arches look a little empty, the switch to the 205. If you want longer gearing & or a more comfortable ride switch to the 205. If you think it might benefit from a lower stance, and a more firm ride switch to the 215/70.

I think i have had discussions about this car before and it is easy to get confusticated with the 365 GT4 2+2 which is a different car.

please if anyone knows better let me know because i just want this to be right. if anyone has any build sheets that would be lovely.

If you want the XWX this is an absolute bargain https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/1926/s/set-of-5-215-70vr15-michelin-xwx/category/2496/ and ship these to most places round the world for nowt.

thank you. My car has Campagnolo rims, not borrani's. According to your message I think the correct tyres are the 205/70 ones.

Oo, no they never fitted 205/70VR15 tthey are far too small in diameter it was 205VR15 or 215/70VR15

tyhe one on the left is a 205/70VR15, the one in the middle is a 205Vr15. the one on the right is a 215/70Vr15. they never fitted 205/70Vr15 on this car that is as you can see much smaller

This is a very good tool for tire size comparisons -> https://tiresize.com/comparison/

Put the original tire size from the owners manual in "Size 1", and then play around with "Size 2" to see how diameter, width, and revs per mile compare. The 50's/60's cars didn't specify aspect ratios in their tire specs, but I think they were usually 80 or 78 (maybe Dougal or somebody else can provide a better number/range). It's always necessary to go wider than stock when going to a 70 series on vintage cars in order to fill out the fender well and maintain speedometer (in)accuracy. The tool helps determine how wide to go (then get feedback from others on that size to make sure it's not so wide that it rubs on a given model of car).

Msk! I'm not sure it fully understands what we are after. without trying to blow my own trumpet i think this is much better https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/ferrari.html

We have a boiot more understanding about your cars than asking a data base to work out what gives you the right diameter.

What you chaps are after is a bit more specialist than a generic computer app can give you. your tyres are more between 80% - 82%. and not like modern tyres. and being Ferrari more bespoke.

What ever you do, please don't just go wider than stock just to buy a cheaper tyre. stay as close as you can to OE it will just handle better. Please just ask us, we really genuinely do give a S**t. we want it to be right, and best (though that is not always cheapest).

Most of the cars you are interested in are on here https://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/classic-car-tyres/ferrari.html if you find anything wrong or incorrect on here please let us know we will change it. if you have some proof as well that you are happy for us to publish on the web that is great. The plan is that is informative data base that allows you to buy from it when you want. but being correct is critical to us.

or email us [email protected] or ring us 00 44 1302 711123. Honestly we really do want to get it right. we are more interested in getting it right than the quick sale.

I definitely agree that expert advice on specific tire/brand fitment is a million times more important than a generic tool and I would only fit a proper vintage tire. The tool is just a handy supplement to see the exact differences when you have narrowed down the search to a few specific tires or are trying to make the high-level decision whether to go with period aspect ratios or 70-series.
